Movies, TV, and other Visual Entertainments (Maybe Even Books?)
With Micmel's thread blessing, I'd like to start compiling data on what fun and yummy entertainments are out there for a person who has worn a butt-print on her sofa.
Sometimes, even reading can be a chore because of steroid-induced visual silliness, so what I'd like to propose is that we list what we love to watch on the television hearth, and why.
My little brother tried - bless him - but he brought me a copy of "Y Tu Mama Tambien". For those who don't know, it is full of Rumpy-Pumpy, and the lady dies of MBC at the end. Not exactly my kind of movie.
I figured we could list our favorites, with a few words as to what makes them so good, so that others might find something new. I know there will be plenty of Venn overlaps, but I am so looking forward to new fun.
I'll start:
Pamela Arlon's new series "Better Things". It's very Louie-esque (he's the executive producer), but since I sent DS off to college, I'm into parenting TV.
"Brave", the pixar movie. OMG - did I love this movie. The voice casting is tremendous, and the animation is old-fashioned, solid goodness. I've watched the scene where the Queen is transformed into a bear about a jillion times.
"Father Brown", BBC series. I like to escape into his 1950's world, where religion matters, but kindness more so. Plus, the costumes are great. It's hard to pull of 1950's well, without some modernisms creeping in, but they've done it. I think the lady actors even have the right wet-set hair does.
I'm sure I could babble on more, but it's time for physical therapy.
Jennifer
PS: I am insane with anticipation!

It's often hard to find entertainment that isn't embarrassing to watch. We are looking forward to the re-start of This is Us, second season starts Sept 26th.

What an incredibly timed post, this is the week many of my shows come back and I'm just giddy about the NCIS (and spinoff series's), Criminal Minds, Designated Survivor and Hell's Kitchen on regular TV.
For paid programming, I recommend The Walking Dead, American Horror Story, Preacher, Game of Thrones (if nudity is not a problem) and Shameless (if you don't mind some truly aweful behavior).
For family friendly throwbacks, I love the original Pippi Longstalking and Parent Trap movies.
And finally for October, how about Jaws, Halloween, The Exorcist, Candyman.
I LOVE TV, if you couldn't tell, lol

The Crown
Outlander
El Tiempo Entre Costuras (the time between)
All beautifully majestic period pieces. The Crown, as I'm sure you know, is a historical drama..all dialogue. Great character portrayals.
Outlander has lots of blood and gore as is typical of the 1700s in Scotland but also has wonderful sex scenes and great intrigue and fun.
El Tiempo is in Spanish with subtitles. Beautiful Morocco in the 1940s, spy, romance, fun.
All outstanding entertainment. Of course, if you can pallette it, to me nothing beats Game of Thrones.

The last time I was glued to the couch (now almost 8 years ago), I got addicted to the Food Network. Seriously. No idea if it's still as addicting.

Jennifer,
My input on good TV:
We like "Father Brown," too.
My PBS faves are "Dr. Blake," "Doc Martin," "Inspector Morse," "Endeavor," "Pie in the Sky," "As Time Goes By" and "Foyle's War."
"Grace and Frankie" and "The Crown" on Netflix are not to be missed.

I am so desperate for more Bake Off goodness, that I am binging the Australian Bake Off. It's very good!

Just noticed that Lucifer and Last Man on Earth are on the schedule for next week, yay!

For humor, I love Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt on Netflix.
Frankie and Gracie is fun to watch, too. Would love to own that beach house!!!
Some of the absolutely most amazing TV I've watched is the series Orange Is The New Black, also on Netflix. It can have very, very extreme moments. The raw intensity of it sometimes matches my raw feelings about dealing wth mbc. I love that the story lines are about women of all ages, sizes, shapes, colors, ethnicities, religions and economic backgrounds. So different from regular Tv where you have routine, young, attractive female leads that sort of always just stay on the surface of things. OITNB gets way deeper that.
I'm a big Dancing With The Stars fan, and this season is terrific. It is so well produced; the way the music, dancing, costuming, personalities and creativity all intermix and mingle often amazes me.
Other shows I tune in to, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, The Middle and Black-ish.

Devine, I love Big Bang Theory and enjoy watching the old episodes as much as the new ones. I must admit that I almost fell out of my chair watching this season's first episode. The scene that did it to me was in Howie and Bernadette's kitchen. You know what I am talking about? I don't want to mention details since some people have yet to seen it.
Jennifer, I cannot believe that your brother gave you a movie that ended with the death of someone with mbc!!! Holy cow!
I do have some movies that I have watched over and over again. One of my favorites is Waking Ned Devine. It is a cute little movie that makes me giggle, but I do have an odd sense of humor. It is not a recent movie, by any means. I like many of Tom Hanks' movies and enjoyed Bridge of Spies. I thought that Hidden Figures was a very good movie. My DH loves Christmas Vacation (Chevy Chase) and insists on watching it every year right after Thanksgiving.
I tend to watch HGTV or old comedies on television.
I will read almost any book, so let me think about it and see if I can recommend anything in particular. Now as I am thinking about it, I am chuckling. My parents were big readers and were always looking for new books to read. Once I was hospitalized for 7 weeks due to complications during pregnancy. (It seems like 100 years ago.) The first day I was there, my Dad visited me and gave me two books, Alaska and Hawaii, both written by James Mitchener. I think they were close to 1000 pages each!! My Dad explained that he liked to buy long books because he read short one too quickly. All I could do was laugh. I did read both those books while I was in the hospital, and I enjoyed them.
