Hello;

First time user: diagnosis of BC stage 4 and after the 6th round of Chemo I had a PET scan and CAT scan, blood work . All came back for now not showing any active cancer cells. The doctor called it remission not NED even though I continue every three weeks with my other two drugs of choice. Is it correct to call it NED or remission?

How many of you have gone off the drugs and done other things? and if so what was successful

    Ned refers to no evidence of disease - so your scans show no evidence of any disease. Another tern is nead- no evidence of active disease. There are still signs of cancer but they are not active. I use the term remission and Ned interchangeably. My family is more familiar with the term remission, so that is what I use with them. Remission is an older term that is not used as much anymore.

    I have been Ned for 6 1/2 years and I stopped treatment over 2 years ago. I really don't do any alternatives, other than trying to eat healthy and take a few supplements.

    Whatever term you use, congratulations on having such a good response to treatment!

    Thanks so much for the information. Congrats to you for your 61/5 Ned and no treatment for 2.5 years.

    Peg,

    I agree that remission is an older, but more commonly used term, among the general population. Most of us use NED or NEAD. As far as treatment, much of it depends on your type of bc. I am ER/PR+, so am on an aromatase inhibitor (AI) and probably will be forever unless it stops working. This is not an option for ER- women. I have been NED for 6 years. Best wishes.

    PS: You might want to consider filling in or making your diagnosis line public.This will help those who reply understand your particular circumstances better
