Stage 3 A,B,and C neoadjuvant chemotherapy
Hello all, I was wondering how many stage 3 ladies had a pcr after chemotherapy?

I didn't but it wasn't expected.
My TX plan was always to do neoadjuvant to get the 'nest' to form into a 'lump' with good margin and to shrink. Then UMX. Then adjuvant to 'clean up' any cells that might have been 'hiding' and missed during surgery. It also needs to be remembered that I am IBC which there aren't many of us ( 1-4 out of 100 DXs of all typres of BC will be IBC). For IBC, the SOP for quite a few years (even before my DX) has been neoadjuvant but neoadjuvant is becoming more common for other types.
I did 4DD A/C neoadjuvant, 2 weeks later UMX, 3 weeks later 12 weekly Taxol, a week later 25 rads.

As far as I remember PCR is quite rare. However, I did have a significant clinical response. The tumor was more than 5 CM, and after 4 rounds of chemo it was down to under 2 CM in one direction and just a few millimeters in the other.
-
I did not have a complete response either, but my tumor went from 7.5 cm to about 3.5 cm.
-
I didn't have a great response. I'm very pleased for those who have a complete response.
-
Not me. From what I've read on these boards, it seems to be uncommon, particularly for ER+.
-
Ditto, not me. This worried my BS at the time, but she was all smiles to see me looking so good three years post treatment recently. I really am keen to hit that five-year mark with NED status a la Momine, Kicks and sbelizabeth.
-
Traveltext, did you have genetic testing? Are men who carry the BRCA mutation more likely to get breast cancer?
-
Not me, it shrunk and also broke up a lot in terms of density. Doing very well 6+ years later.
-
All my active cancer was gone, but I did have a tiny pocket of DCIS.
-
OK, Lucca, I add you to my mentor list! Glad you're doing well.
Yes, sbelizabeth, and I have a BRCA1 variation of unknown significance. BRCA2 men have a one in eight chance of developing breast and/or prostate cancer in their lifetime, while BRCA2 men have something like a one in thirty chance of developing the same cancers.

I did not but I had a very good response. My tumor shrank from almost 6cm to under .5cm, can't remember the exact number. My scans did not show and node involvement but it turned out I had a few isolated tumor cells in two out of three. I had to have two lumpectomys because I had a little bit of dcis left after first and did 4 more rounds of chemo after. My doctors were all very pleased with my response.
-
I had a pcr. Started out with multifocal tumors(ten to be exact) and a positive lymph node. All clear at the time of surgery.
-
I too had shrinkage but nothing close to a pcr. My MO told me this was the most likely outcome since I was ER+. He said the reason for neo-adjuvant chemo was to clean out any cancer in the bloodstream that might be ready to cause metastatic disease, and to reduce tumor bulk, especially in my case, in the axillary area. I still had 8 positive lymph nodes when I had surgery. That surgery was 7 years ago this week.
-
I did not have PCR and was told I wouldn't since I was high ER. I had some response. I had a couple of intramammary and a rotter node that all cleared prior to surgery which was a relief. My BS would not have taken out the intramamary or the rotter which are in the pectoral muscle. The chemo shrunk my tumor a bit and moved me from a 3c to a 3 a. I am happy with that.
-
Thanks to everyone for responding!! I am happy see that all of you had a responce to chemo and seem to be doing well.
Raleighgirl your diagnosis it very similar to mine except they thought I had 1 internal mammory node with cancer.I too had a pcr which I really didn't think was gonna happen but I'm glad it did.
