Pixiegirl23 - I am so sorry you are going through this -- you are experiencing normal feelings after getting
a pathology report you were not expecting. It eventually gets better when you have a treatment plan in
place beyond surgery.
Sending hope and encouragement!

Mariar, I understand the fear and sadness you describe, and remember what a wretched time it was. It's like "cancer radio" playing in your head, 24/7. I cleaned out my closet during that time, thinking I didn't want my poor husband to be faced with that chore.
And here I am, close to six years later, thank you God. I still think about cancer from time to time but it has faded from a huge elephant crashing around my living room to a tiny mouse who sits quietly in the corner.
If you're not taking these meds already, think about asking your doctor about an anti-anxiety medication and an antidepressant. They can truly make a difference in this sometimes-dark journey of treatment.
Just keep getting up in the morning, keep putting one foot in front of the other. Before you know it you'll be on the other side of this enormous speed bump.

Pixiegirl, I did the same thing when I was diagnosed....freaked out and then scoured these boards for encouragement! I know this all seems like a bad dream but it does get easier. I am 2 years out from a Stage IIIA diagnosis at age 31 and I'm doing great. YOU CAN DO THIS. Look at all the gals here that keep coming back after 5, 10, 15 years of living cancer free after a Stage III diagnosis. There are more out there too...it's just that once people put the cancer behind them they tend to go out and live life and are not actively posting on message boards anymore.

pixiegirl….totally understand how you look for hope in the mist of the fear and sadness…I still do from time to time. But, when I was at your stage of treatment I lived daily looking for hope. There is lots of hope as many of us here are past 5 years and all is well. Would encourage you to read up on some life style changes that may help ease the effects of the Als and exercise as that helps me with the mental journey of all this. You will get to the other side of all this so take it one day at a time! Cheering you on!!

Hi Pixiegirl!
I'm so sorry that your pathology report was such a shock to you. The good news is that your cancer was fed by hormones, and that you can do hormonal therapy. That is one way you can proactively prevent recurrence and metastasis to another part of your body. Some women find the side-effects of hormonal therapy difficult, but the good news there is that there are different variants of hormonal therapy, and you can try to find the one you best tolerate.
Three years ago, I was diagnosed with triple positive, Grade 3 cancer that was over 5 cm. and had invaded one node. Today, I'm taking Aromasin (hormonal therapy), and all of my post-surgery mammograms have been clean.
Denise-G -- Congrats on being five years out! And, thanks for all of your uplifting and encouraging posts.

Pixiegirl - Just a quick note to say that I'm approaching 7 years out from Stage IIIa diagnosis and am doing wonderfully well! I totally understand your fears, that's normal. Just know that it will get better and you can do this! One day at a time!! Wishing I could take some of your fears away, but know that we all go through that part.
Hugs,
Kathy

I got my pathology result after mastectomy and lymhnode positive. ER+ HER2+...I have an other brain storm what to do where should I go...Radiation therapy is next , is it going to help or I should ask more chemotherapy?
-
Kim,
How much chemo have you had already? Have you had Herceptin and if so, will you continue to get it for a year?
-
pixiegirl you are not alone and it's okay to be sad. It's a lot to go thru and there are days it seems impossible. We have all been there and can relate with how you are feeling. Reach out and know we are here for you......big hugs
