The problem, often not discovered until late in life, is that when you look for tings in life like love, meaning, motivation, it implies they are sitting behind a tree or under a rock. The most successful people in life recognize, that in life they create their own love, they manufacture their own meaning, they generate their own motivation. For me, I am driven by two main philosophies: know more about the world today than I did yesterday, and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that get you.

Ducky that is perfect reasoning and sure the way I would want to do it if I could. Actually part of my on-going after physical tests has turned out that way. I will have my mammogram at 1 p.m. and my Dexa at the same place @ 2 p.m. I will have to do a couple other things, but that is okay. I pick up new hearing aids on the 16th. but will have to make the 140 mile round trip to Marion which is south of us. Have done that now for several years. There is a new ( well, it has been around for a couple yrs. actually ) V. A. program that will allow --- if you live at least 40 miles from your nearest V.A. to use the choice of the V.A. finding a medical facility much closer for you. So, the final test, a colonoscopy will happen in the hospital that is 20 miles from us. It will all work out just fine. The first two tests I'm nearly within walking distance of our local hospital where they will take place.
It is a beauty once again here --- sun is out so nice. All bets off after today though. My five day outlook is for all 90 degree or above days for a week --- the outlook is only presented for a week, but REAL summer will be here. Not quite in the mood, but have to take what comes.
Sandy -- what a day. Hope it all works out quickly. I don't ( knocking on wood here ) have many banking issues as I don't put in much and being a non-electronic person I hold any deposits that aren't automatic for when I can go inside the bank. I don't even use the drive-up window. I am though from a very small town and my bank does have generous hours and so I've managed to survive not using electronic amenities. I think I would have to learn a lot more if I had more funds and lived in a much bigger area.
Sally I will be praying for your sister. I can see how hard it would be for her --- already living with leukemia dx. We just can never know what our challenges might be. I hope you are doing okay as well.

Neil deGrasse Tyson is one of my daughter's favorite people. I had no idea he was a philosopher as well as a scientist! Great quote!

Tappermom, I was happy that the quote turned up in my mailbox to use this morning. . I as well, think Mr. Tyson is a wonderful person in many, many ways.

Neil deGrasse Tyson: scientist, philosopher and so good looking!

Why are the pics so big? I sized it to be much smaller!

Poppy, I just HAD to switch to Windows 10 from 7 --- and I'm not having very good results from trying to change the size of pics as well as trying to use bitly to shorten links too. My computer screen on Windows 10 shows the tool-bar that is just above where you type and I think there may be a tool in there to resize pictures. I'm no longer sure of much because I'm a bit ( like almost totally ) inadequate when it comes to computers or any other electronics. I'm usually full of frustration by the end of the day. Tutorials aren't highly helpful to me either. If someone teaches me directly of if I accidentally figure it out for myself --- but otherwise it is frustration as my partner.
ETA: Meant to say with my Windows 7 the tool bar was gone for a long, long time. I know you can work with pics with it --- I just no longer quite recall how.
-
Joyce - thanks for the picture. Glad to see the guys are still golfing. By all means, do come back the the kitchen table. Still going strong.

Have to be on my way soon to Walmart, but wanted to say -- after days of trying I have been able to ( with help from the Microsoft computer geeks ) figure out how to be able to once again override the fonts on Windows 10. I got a higher level computer geek and together we figured that if I use Internet Explorer --- I can have the same set-up that I had with Windows 7. I had so much trouble with the hard to read font that was on Windows 10 and they kept telling me there was nothing I could do. Well, you know what I really think --- I think they got as tired of me calling everyday as I did. So, that is a nice problem solved for me. I may though have to switch back and forth sometimes if I want to post something else -- like a picture or something. I don't think it will work here any better than it was working before which was that it wasn't working at all.

Sally, so sorry to hear about your sister—prayers that she will be able to manage comfortably for as long as possible.
None of us are “bullying" anyone; criticism of third parties (i.e., not our sisters here) should not be misinterpreted as “hating;" and most importantly, people who “come here with CANCER" are not islands unto ourselves. Our lives, while abruptly and seriously altered, do not yet end—nor do our interactions, activities, and our interest in the world around us, what is happening in it, and how it affects us and our friends and loved ones. One glance at the dozens of topics and hundreds of threads about almost everything—not just cancer—on BCO should drive that point home.
Methinks “bullying" might be in the mind of the beholder. Certainly differs from the dictionary definition.

Sandy - and everyone else - please just STOP. We can be bigger than this. Let it go.

Agree...why beat a dead horse.....up to now I have kept my mouth shut....but I think all will agree "LET IT GO"....

A bright, sunny and warm day here at Pine Hollow. I did some chores during the am hours including changing the bed sheets and laundering them. Now I'm sitting on the deck, shaded by the awning. Dh went to town to do some shopping for the resort.
Joyce, it's good to hear from you. Glad Michelle's Dh is happy.
Minus, the WW meeting was good and helped me get back on track.
I brought quite a supply of yarn from home with the idea that I might make pot holders. But I learned from doing research that acrylic yarn isn't suitable. Guess what kind I have? Yep. So I will need to buy cotton.
Happy Friday

Seedsally, I wish your sister the best in dealing with her recurrence

Seedsally, Wishing your sister comfortable days filled with activities she loves. You take care of yourself, too.

Hi everyone,
You all know how much I love my new kitchen- but it has caused much frustration. One of the special things I ordered were 2 tiered silverware holders. It's on my invoice. It's been on the invoice since day one. There was more than enough time for them to be ordered, because I chose to delay the installation of the kitchen until I came back from my two day trip to Ga the last weekend in Apr. For some unknown reason, they were not ready when the kitchen was put in. They finished the kitchen on Fri and said those drawers would be ready the following Tues. Unfortunately, that was the week of the graduation, and everyone was heading for Ga. I told the contractor if he couldn't get them here by Wed, he would have to wait till the following Tues, wHen my DD would be home. No problem, he said.
I stayed in Ga for an extra week, and I got home last Sat. No new silverware holders. I texted Mon morning and got a response asking if I could wait a few days- he had some kind of problem with his eyes. What could I say? I waited till yesterday, texted and got no answer. I emailed him this morning, telling him that I was sorry he was having eye problems, but I was sure his crew was still working- couldn't one of them deliver the trays? AgAIN- no response.
I tried calling him about 4:45- the phone rang once, then it was shut down. I am generally very calm and quiet. But that threw me over the edge. I called again, and left a message. My anger and frustration were clear thru my voice. He finally texted he will bring them Mon afternoon. Why did I have to reach that level of anger and frustration before he would respond???I have been more than cooperative thru the whole garage and kitchen remodel- not saying a word when they didn't show up till 10-10:30 am , then took 2 hour lunches and worked way past our normal dinner schedule. My DD says it's my own fault for paying him in full before it was 100% done. I said that was silly- it was two drawer trays, how long could it take? Ugh!!

Luvmaui -- wow -- nice picture. I see all the little girls have dresses on -- maybe it was a special day when the picture was taken. All the 'guys' dressed similar as well. Then there is the little guy on the left who has hair almost the color of yours. The wooded area is nice where you are as well. Since we are surrounded by trees where we live I tend to focus on that too. The tree behind you is great.
Quiet afternoon here, but it is almost always quiet where we live -- just the two other houses on the lane and one neighbor only comes for the week-end so usually all I hear outside is birds talking to one another. Sort of dreading the hotter weather starting but so far we don't have humidity so it won't be too bad --- and we are under a canopy of trees.

Judy - Lovely family photo - You are blessed. Photo below is my DD. (Sorry, it's so big.)
Anneb - I am with you on why on having to reach the anger/frustration level before getting results. Ugh, indeed. My two cents - why is it that when I have my DH handle issues - men, especially seem to listen. Between the British accent & his tone (uses a cool, but don't mess with me tone of a former Scotland Yard Detective Sergeant) he gets it done!
-
Anne, any way to just make do with plastic drawer trays for now? (Rubbermaid, Ikea, ContainerStore, etc.)?
-
Anne, I think I was typing at the same time you were and I nearly missed your entry because the page changed. I hope those drawers do turn up when your contractor said they would. It is so easy these days to get frustrated. People don't seem to follow through so well. Your daughter may have a point about the money. It has I think been sort of a standard for a long time --- to not pay in full till you have a satisfactory and complete job --- I'm just not sure in this case how much it would have helped since the contractor seemed to be shying away a bit from communicating. I hope his eye issues resolve soon too. Your kitchen sure tuned out pretty though and I think you really were a good sport about the odd hours and long lunches. I don't know that I could have been.
-
Celia -- your daughter is really attractive -- beautiful eyes. Men do have a different way of talking. Love the Scotland Yard reference of putting some don't mess with me in your voice. Dh seems ( no accent ) to do better then I do too. I think he comes off more like patience with a strong note of persistence -- like you are not leaving here till you get this done. I think more than talking I just have a 'glare' that looks really iffy, though it doesn't get me near as far as I would like. Sigh !!!!
-
Celia is so right about men in general getting a better response than women. Unfortunately I don't have that option. I grew very used to that during my 42 yrs of marriage. I believed it helped a lot just having my brother here during the planning and installations.
I remember years ago (a lifetime ago) we were foster parents. One of the young boys we had was sent home from school because he had lice. At that time you had to get a clearance letter from the health dept before the child could return to school. I shampooed, combed, picked and then did it all again. I took him to the health dept- they wouldn't clear him. I did this three times and they still said no. This was not my first (or last) go round with lice. I knew he was clear. Finally, I got so frustrated, I made my husband take him- they passed him immediately! Same day that I had taken him, with no additional treatment!!
I also do not understand why you have to escalate an issue that really shouldn't be an issue at all before you get a response. I tried to handle this calmly and fairly. That didn't work.
By they way, Sandy, I do have my old trays still in use. One of the irritants is that he put the trays opposite the way they have been for over 20 yrs. It's hard enough not having the garbage where it's always been (my choice to put it in a cabinet), always opening the wrong drawer gets tiresome. I know I could have switched them, but I kept thinking why bother? The new ones will be here soon enough and why do something twice if you don't have too?
Wow- is my life so boring that I posted two messages about my silverware trays? I need to get out more!
Sally- so sorry about your sister. Please let her know we are thinking of her and you.

Jackie, I was FINALLY able to get everyone together for professional family pictures! It took two years but we were able to get it done last month on the Oregon State University campus. We took the photos there as all of our sons and my husband are very active OSU alums and we spend alot of time there. The photographer found beautiful green space on the Memorial Union Quad and I now have a family portrait hanging over our living room fireplace. I'll try to put one of the family pictures from this sitting on here.
Celia, your daughter is beautiful! Anne, I feel your pain! We didn't have any problems with the contractor we selected for our kitchen re-do, however there have been so many times I've had to deal with household problems where my DH comes in and takes care of it quickly.....very frustrating!
Have a wonderful weekend all!

Celia........such a pretty girl....I love the pictures bigger....no need to apologize.....such retty eyes
