Hi everyone!

I'm posting on behalf of my mom who was diagnosed with bone mets in 2014, a recurrence after 2000. She took hormonal therapy for a year, then a few months of afinitor/exmestane which was disasterous as she developed an episode of acute kidney injury while on it, a recurrence to the uterus and cervix and the lateral rectus muscle of the right eye in may 2016 after which she was started on taxol and she did well with no side effects. We were hoping she would be on the regimen for long but she developed an anal abcess/fistula due to the chemotherapy and needed a minor surgical intervention and chemotherapy was on hold. By the time we could get back to the chemo there had been a gap of 2 months.. And her appetite started decreasing and weight loss and we got an urgent pet scan done to find out she has progressed to the lungs and the liver.

Needless to say we are devastated. After a few days of being completely hopeless I revisited this site again and found strength and hope which I tried to infuse into my mom as well.

We have started a new regimen of navelbine and I have been searching the site for experiences on nalevbine but hvnt found much. How is navelbine compared to taxol in toxicity?

I'm. Sorry for the long post and if I don't make sense.. But I'm still in shock.. And very anxious.

Hoping for kind days for all of us.

That was my first line of treatment after recurrence. It brought me to remission after four cycle. I was on navelbine and 5-fu. It was tough and my WBC and rbc tanked out. Once in remission a new oncologist adjusted the dosage and I had excellent quality of life, traveled and pretended to keep house. I was in remission for a year

hi. Vinorelbine/Navelbine is a oral\IV chemo, effective with mostly minor SEs, compared to taxanes, of which Taxol is one of them. Still, each chemo is a new adventure to any of us, we cannot make generalisations.

Do keep hopes up, though :)

    Hugs

Thank you stagefree and yangtan for replying. It means alot.. My mom is experiencing extreme fatigue on vinorelbine which is hard to tell of it is from the chemo drug or her metastasis..and she keeps missing the effect taxol had on her.. Where she felt better instantly.

    Dear hope,

Taxanes are bigger guns, no wonder Taxol was more helpful. Vinorelbine and alike are used to sort of rest the body once the c-buggers are under control. But chemo is chemo, right? Not all respond well. Just like your mom, I quickly passed Vinerolbine. Hope the new selected drug works wonders for her.

    Hugs

Thank you for replying ebru, she has had 2 cycles so far and the doctor suggested we do a petscan after the 3rd cycle to see if it's working. Overall there seem to be no side effects except for the fatigue but judging by how she feels she's skeptic the drug working. :(

I hope you're doing well. Sending you prayers and best wishes.
