Nurseinboots, I sure hope you are feeling better by now. I'm sorry you are struggling with your digestion. Ugh. Have you contacted your oncology team for advice? Their goal is to manage your side effects, and I know they'd like to help you with it. Virtual hugs!

Hi ladies, day five for me from my first dose of AC. It's going well, but I'm trying not to get cocky as I understand the doses are cumulative. I've only had minor bits of nausea. Still, my stomach is definitely off. My taste buds have gone numb, and nothing tastes very good. I'm forcing myself to eat regularly. It's manageable so far. This whole time I've only taken three anti nausea pills at home, and they were more precautionary than anything else. Even though I'm foggy on much that happened on treatment day, I remember the nurse saying I was getting three different meds for nausea that hit different receptors in your brain. She also said they should last about five days. I realize that supposedly tomorrow they'll be out of my system, but I've seen reports that many feel better around day six, so I'm hoping for the same. Hubby may recall the name of each one, but they have worked.

Yes, I'm tired. I'm trying not to nap so that I'll sleep better at night. I have been sleeping well, and mornings I feel pretty normal. Maybe this week I'll perk up a bit and take myself out into the world. Because I haven't known exactly what to expect, I'm sticking close to home for now.

So helpful to read all of your postings...

In terms of reactions to tape, I've been having this including now paper tape. They're harder to get but myopore has been working well, and my homecare nurse got a couple of silicone sheets which ae amazing, but they're limited and they're not offering them to me at the hospital - very $.

Lovepugs77 - great options! I really like the

Raquel Welch Boostand Toni Brattin wigs - very nice.

Any ladies here also on IG?

Today I went and got my Chemo Haircut. It's what's called a "long pixie" cut and everybody says it looks good but I never wanted short hair!! I figured it's better this way if it's going to fall out anyway though...

    Edit: I'm on IG!

Today is my 3rd day after first AC chemo. All in all i guess it went okay. At times when i felt tired , i slept.
Also went out for walk all the days around the block.
Since last two days especially in the evening, i feel like i am getting flu. Yesterday evening before going off to bed i took tylenol and was fine in the morning.
Today itself as i am typing i am feeling something going on in my throat
    Did someone experience this ?

BCFighter2017, I think I know just what you mean about your throat. I also was afraid that I was getting a cold or something, but I think what you're feeling is the numbing of your taste buds. For some reason I didn't read about this side effect in advance.

msrobin58 - thanks for that info - it will be good to be aware of for me...

ParakeetsRule - I totally hear you - I'll be cutting mine in a few weeks and it hasn't been short since I've been 20 years old :-(.

In terms of IG, I started a separate account, specifically re: what I'm going through, so if you're comfortable with me following you, you can connect with me there or let me know your IG name -- of course, whatever's comfortable for you.

My port placement is on May 15 (postponed from 5/10) and I start neo adjuvant chemo on May 18 - 4 rounds of AC, biweekly. Like ParakeetsRule I was concerned about the close timing, but my MO's nurse practitioner says it will be ok, and that when she worked in the hospital it wasn't unusual to have port placement and infusion on the same day. Right now I'm also more anxious about port placement than chemo, but that's probably because it's the next step in this frightening process!

Dodgers Girl, what a great result post AC3! I'm so happy for you!

Msrobin58, Thank you for the updates. So helpful to know what you're experiencing. Even tho I know my experience may be very different, I go into this feeling that I can and will get through it too - and with preparation and luck, maybe without severe SEs.

I'm spending this week shopping and preparing. Anastasia Eyebrow Kit, SPF 50 Lotion, Lip balm, OPI Nail Envy strengthener, BPA-free water bottles, silk satin pillow cases, Sea Bands. The cotton sleeping caps look comfortable and I'll be ordering some. I'm not a hat or headscarf person and look terrible in them, but will order a few for wearing at home. Despite working from home and going through chemo during the hot summer months, I will be purchasing a wig for meeting with clients and going out in general. Just my personal preference. I don't think I have the confidence to be looked at.

My prescriptions are ready to pick up: Compazine (nausea), Lorazepam (nausea and insomnia), Protonix (gastric irritation), Senna-s (constipation).

OTC purchases include Magnesium Citrate, Imodium AD, Claritin, Tylenol & Advil, Biotene mouthwash and dry mouth spray, Cottonelle wipes.

Food shopping on the weekend. And I'll pack my chemo bag with water bottles, snacks, Angel mints and ginger candy, hand sanitizer, wipes, travel blanket and pillow and a good book (believe it or not my onc clinic doesn't offer wifi!)

For an additional mouth rinse to Biotene, my nurse practitioner advised mixing 1 qt water with a tsp of baking soda and a tsp of salt. Use after eating and at bedtime throughout treatment.

I'll be back often to keep up with everyone. Wishing all the very best!

I have two accounts too! I just started using Instagram over the past couple weeks so I'm still figuring it out. I've been putting my cancer-related posts on "afemalemarine" and random everyday posts on: "mariathepurple". They are both public so if anybody else wants to follow, feel free! :)

I almost feel like I'm behind the curve since so many of you have already started but it's been really helpful reading your day to day experiences as you begin the chemo process. I'll see you there next Monday....

notanisland- you sound prepared which is awesome. I think being mentally prepared is important and taking the steps you did helps build confidence. Way to go!!

My AC 3 weekend wasn't nearly as queasy or sleepless as the 2 before. For me, I thinking taking my anti-nausea meds one more day really helped.

    Hoping you have minimal SEs.

Good luck with port placement. I didn't have any pain but the day of placement, sure felt weird in my neck area. No worries now though.

Make sure you get a script for EMLA cream for port site. You will want to apply before each chemo treatment to numb the skin over the port.

notanisland… - your list is AWESOME!! thank you so much - I've added it to my prep list - thank you!! and best of luck ;-)

DodgersGirl… Good to hear that it seems to be going well on your end

ParakeetsRule - I'm going to find you on IG ;-).

My oncologist secretary called today to make an appt for next week. The wound is finally healing - the wound care specialist changed the gel and coverings and improvement is much faster. I also have an issue with tape (all types) and finally found that silicone tape works great. However is very $$ and they're quite restrictive :-)

I'm really struggling to eat today. Any one have any tips for me? I even have a bowl of my own homemade chicken broth in front of me, and can't finish. And I love this stuff normally! Trying out ginger ale for the first time, it's a nice change from boring water and equally dull iced tea that I usually love. I will say that fresh fruit continues to be delightful, especially fresh pineapple. I wonder why fruit continues to be so tasty when everything else has lots its flavor.

msrobin- protein is important. Do you/ can you eat eggs? I make a breakfast casserole on weekends then heat a couple of breakfast squares each morning. (Turkey sausage precooked, 8 eggs, half jar salsa, and 2 cups cheese. Baked in 13X9 at 350 for 45 mins). I have also had luck with tuna salad when food isn't appealing. Love diet Vernor's after a couple of days pushing water after chemo. Also find warm ginger tea seems to help my appetite

Dodgersgirl, I'm trying to eat protein but there are so many foods that make me shudder right now. I'm eating eggs, cheese, peanut butter, and cashews. Tuna and meats are dicey for now. On that note, I think I'll go grab some cashews. Salty foods agree with me right now.

    Hi

I'm 36 with stage 1 grade 1 IDC right breast less than 1 cm with an oncotype 22. I had a double mastectomy and am waiting to see my onco to discuss my treatment plan. I'm on the fence about doing chemo. Being in the intermediate level for my onco score what's do I do???

BCFighter, have you been able to find any variety packs of Boost or Ensure? My nurse suggested I get some, too. That stuff is expensive, and I hate to buy a whole pack of one flavor and find that I can't stand it. I know I could donate it, but money is tight right now.

Port done. I keep singing, "Shot through the heart..." by Bon Jovi. It's uncomfortable (but not like my bilateral mastectomies)... I was awake the entire time, a little pushing and pulling but not too bad. It is sore to move my arm or neck. I guess it will be a lazy day.

It's just one step closer to chemo...

Ok update. I think the lidocaine and versed are wearing off. I'm not feeling the greatest.

Hi ladies, I'm hanging in there. My stomach and I are getting along a bit better, but it's still hard to eat enough. I often get that sinking feeling you get when you're over hungry, even some chills. I keep checking for fever, and it seems I've read chills are common?

I did finally get out of the house briefly today, drove up to Home Depot to look at flowers. It felt good! I woke up feeling fairly perky, but by lunch I was droopy again. I'm very up and down right now!

Hmmm, temp at 99. Says to call in if you get to 100.5. Guess I'd better be vigilant this evening.

    Hello lovepug77,

Thank you for thinking of us! It went well this morning. My neck is a little bit sore. Didn't do anything until now, just chilled and was in and out sleeping hehehe. Good excuse for not doing anything. I wish you all the best tomorrow for your port placement. I slowly drink water when I got home to hydrate because I didn't have water since midnight yesterday.

I checked my "When to Call your Physician" list, msrobin. Mine lists Fever (temperature greater that 100.5 F) second, but first on my list is Chills. Please take care and call if you're temperature is edging up.

Today was day 1 of TC for me. It went well. I feel fine now but am kind of holding my breath waiting for it all to kick in. Impressed with how the port works and how easy to access. Didn't feel a thing when she stuck needle in. I used the numbing cream and it worked very well. I read prior posts about some people feeling a weird feeling in throat and I have that going on. Just a scratchy feeling.

notanisland, thanks for looking that up for me. I have a whole binder here from the cancer center, but haven't had the heart to read it. Mine says shaking chills are a reason to call, and I definitely didn't have that. As soon as I put a blanket on me, I was much better. I keep checking my temp, driving hubby crazy actually. It's up and down by staying under the 100.5 mark. But I'll certainly call in if it goes up. This is day 8 from my first AC treatment, and I had sure hoped to be on an upswing by now. Instead I'm feeling very blah.

msrobin58, my nurse said that my white cell count will be at its lowest about a week after the infusions. Keep monitoring your temperature, and take care of yourself. I hope you feel better soon.
