Hi,

I was just diagnosed this week. I still am waiting on results from the HER test. Waiting for call backs on appointments for MRI, radiology and medical oncology ( I have only met with the surgeon). So we don't have a plan yet.

Has most everyone had to get all three; surgery, chemo and radiation?

My 15 year old son also has cancer and he will be getting a bone marrow transplant in a few weeks. As his chemo didn't work all the way for him.

Life is crazy

I have had surgery, chemo, radiation and hormone therapy 13 years ago. And now I am doing it all over again.

Most of us have all it. Its doable.

so he did not feel anything clinically enlarged with my axillary lymph- says that with the u/s then there is a pretty good chance there is nothing too worrisome there but the final pathology will tell us more. He is optimistic that it is early. Went for MRI yesterday- what an experience that was.  Next will meet with him april 3 then another mammogram and u/s the following Friday- guess they saw some microcalcifications in same breast but in a different quadrant , nothing seen in left breast ....yet.

how long from your initial mammog to your surgery? so far it has been 3 weeks for me and not sure when surgery if going to be but it will be more than a month out by the time it does happen. INitial mammogram was march 6

You won't necessarily have to do all 3. I was stage 1, 1.3 cm with no node involvement and a low oncotype dx score and I did not have to do chemo. A lot of things play into it. If you are triple negative, you can count on chemo, if there are several lymph nodes involved, HER+, or have a large tumor, you will likely have chemo. If your cancer is small but you have a high oncotype dx score, you also may have chemo. If you have a mastectomy, you may not have radiation. So many factors play into the decision. Best of luck to you. There are so many wonderful ladies here to support you

    Hey there Tpralph:

Waiting is always so tortuous. But its a "normal" part of the whole process. Its good they are positive it is early stage. That is encouraging. Once they have the full story, they can put together the best treatment plan. So its good they are thorough. Waiting will also not affect the outcome. You are safe to wait and they know that treatment is needed soon, so you can relax in that respect.

    Hugs to you.

tpralph- I had an MRI last week too, that was quite the experience wow! I did good until about the last five minutes then it was terrible hard to stay still!

After meeting with both medical and radiation oncologist I found out I will be doing 6 months of chemo I start Friday. After that they will do surgery then radiation . My MRI showed the right breast was clear but the tumor had satellite areas in my left and I have at least 4 or so lymph nodes involved under my arm.

It really made things set in for me.. it was wait wait wait wait then boom!

My pathology took from Thursday to Tuesday and I got my MRI results the next day. Hope you have more answers soon.

had mri which showed the primary tumour to be 2.5 by 1.8- fair size larger (in fact double the size of the u/s) see the surgical oncologist this Monday then plastics on Tuesday. don't know what type it is or what receptor positive/neg it is either- wont know until they cut it off.

also seen on mri is another BB enhancing mass - no one seems to know what the BB stands for but it is BIRADS 4 and will have another biopsy next Friday. Still waiting for the boom, hopfully will happen this week. Good luck with the Chemo and keep us posted!
