Los Angeles Oncologist recommendation

I'm looking for a recommendation for a great oncologist in the Los Angeles area. I was recently diagnosed with mets to my spine. My mets sprang up fast and furious while I was pregnant, but now that I am 2 and 1/2 months postpartum I am feeling great. It's so hard to do treatments knowing there will be side effects both emotional and physical when you are not feeling bad. Wishing I could just sit in denial and just take care of my sweet little baby, but I know that I need to get going on a treatment plan and would love to go to a highly recommended oncologist.

if you don't mind driving, I go to City of Hope in Duarte. My doctor is fantastic, Dr James Waisman. There are other great doctors in his department. That said, if I was starting over, I would probably try to go to UCLA. It's much closer and they are very reputable. Even if you can't get in with the one you want, probably an associate would be equally as good. It's very important that you have a positive oncologist who's goal for you is LIFE.

    Good luck.

Sorry to hear about your mets. I posted a similar thread months ago. You might be able to find it if you search for it. Several people commented.

My mom belongs to Kaiser, and we have been very happy there and like her oncologists. Throughout this experience we've had second opinions (two at) Ucla and one at city of hope. There is no comparison. City of hope was wonderful. We saw Dr. Yuan, and if we were to switch to City of hope we would want her to be my mother's oncologist.

At ucla, I have to say we felt rushed. The doctor didn't even review our info before we arrived. We spent most of the time with the fellow and just a few minutes with the doctor. He never even returned our call or email after the appointment. I know you UCLA is top rated, but we were extremely disappointed with both of our visits.

City of Hope is an entirely different experience. They treat you like you matter and appoint you a patient advocate on your first visit. I can give you more info if you would like.

    Best of luck

city of hope all the way. I see Dr Chung. He's the best. He really listens and is easy to talk to when asking questions. Good luck

Dr. Philomena Mc Andrew is wonderful and much if her practice is breast cancer. She is affiliated with Cedars-Sinai and her office is in Beverly Hills (Wilshire and Doheny). She gives chemo in her office (and pharmacists), has CT/PET scanners, x-rays, etc. in the office and there are, of course others in the practice, so it is very convenient. Parking is in the building, so no long walks to the office. She spends a lot of time with you during the app'ts and answers all questions. I highly recommend her.
