Increased bone met pain after xgeva?

    Hello all!

I've not been on here in a while. I was wondering if anyone experiences increased pain from bone mets in the few days after an xgeva injection? I'm not talking about general bone pain, but increased pain in areas where you know you have mets.

I'm trying to figure out if it's the xgeva or my exercise. The last 2 times I had xgeva (getting it monthly right now), I had much more severe pain in my ribs in areas where I know I have old rib fractures a few days after. It could also be my exercising and that I tweaked it, but both times it seemed to be closely associated with my xgeva injection, so I am wondering if there is an association. It seems to get better after a few days regardless of what is causing it.

Has anyone else experienced this? Thoughts?

    TIA

I have noticed a mild increase in pain the week after an injection, followed by improvement/feeling that my bones are stronger/more solid the second week. The exercise could also be a contributing factor. I don't have bone pain while running but my back will become easily fatigued and painful the rest of the day if I continue with my normal schedule (holding toddler, doing dishes - the leaning over does a number on my ribs and spine, etc).

    Thanks ladies!

keetmom, I remember using claritin for bone pain following neulasta back in 2009 when I was initially treated. I didn't think of using it for xgeva but I will give it a try.

JFL, I also notice some increased pain in my thoracic spine/ribs sometimes after a lot of upper body work/lifting. Will try to keep that in mind. I suspect my pain might be multifactorial - xgeva and exercise... also seems to be increasing the longer I'm on xgeva (the pain for the week after the injection). Thanks!

oh my goodness I'm going through something similar!! I just posted about it then decided to do a search ti see if anyone had a similar issue.

I have bone mets and am on tamoxifen daily, Zoladex monthly and just had my first Xgeva shot the other day for the first time on March 9th. I didn't notice anything major but now I have lower back pain. I did water aerobics for the first time last night and while it didn't hurt during, I had a lot of pain last night. Could barely sleep and get comfortabke. It's in my lower baskppck spine area. I even felt a tingling in my spine when I bent over. Called my oncologist and they want me to get an mri at my local hospital because my insurance won't pay for the cancer center to do one. Sigh.

I didn't know about taking claritin. I wonder what that does. Did you have a resolution to your pain? I was really looking forward to being more active and I love water aerobics. Funny thing is I also have mets in my right shoulder area and while that was sore it didn't hurt as bad as my back.

I also got in the hot tub after water aerobics and the sauna. Could those have bothered it?? So many variables.
