I am back!! I was dx with stage 2 er positive idc in 2009. Had surgery and radiation. In August 2015 I was diagnosised with stage 3b lung cancer. Had chemo and radiation to lung tumor. Latest pet scan showed a new nodule growing in soft tissue right below shoulder and 1 bone met. They thought I was stage 4 lung cancer but biopsy of nodule came back breastcancer. So now I am having nodule removed to be tested to see if new spot is estrogen positive. Now oncologist think maybe the lung cancer tumor could be misdiagnosised and maybe a breast cancer met all along. Has anyone had a lung met misdiagnosised as lung cancer?

icey....so sorry you are going through this. Although I am not in your situation I was wondering if you could tell us if you were ever on anti hormone therapy? Just think its important to know how you were treated. I hope someone comes along that can relate and give you some support. We are all here for you. Good luck and keep us posted.

I chose not to do the hormone treatment at the time. Not sure now it was the right choice but it has been over 6 years since being treated for the breast cancer

Ordinarily, if they know you have had breast cancer, they would do a biopsy to see if the cancer is new/or metastatic breast cancer.  It sounds as though they didn't or couldn't do a biopsy before treating you for lung cancer.  It is possible it could have been misdiagnosed if no biopsy was ever done.  I've never heard of this happening before, but it certainly could.  I was diagnosed and treated for COPD  when I first went to the doctor about shortness of breath that actually was caused by lung mets, but they found the real cause within a couple of months.
