So Nervous!!!
So I had a PET Scan last week that showed everything is stable. I am on Ibrance/Faslodex combo since April of 2016. Now of course this news is wonderful and I am thrilled, however I am having significant pain in my lower back and leg. To be honest I was shocked the scan came back good. I was expecting progression. I saw the doctor yesterday and she is sending me for an MRI next week of my back. I'm really nervous! Anyone want to venture possible causes for the pain.....either cancer related or not? It hurts most when I'm standing or walking. Less when sitting or lying down. I have only taken OTC meds for it so it's really only about a 4-5 on the pain scale, but it's ALWAYS there??? Any thoughts are appreciated.

it could possibly be Arthritis or a side effect of one of your meds. When I was first taking Xgeva I had some back aches, but no longer do.
-
It could be your pain is from something like sciatica or arthritis, or possibly a side effect of the Faslodex injections. I have lower back pain and all kinds of arthritic issues in my knees, feet and other joints, probably exacerbated by Faslodex, but who knows?
Hope the MRI is helpful!

Hi Kayrnic,
I had lots of back pain and we finally concluded that it was stenosis from narrowing passage ways along the vertebrae cause by healing bone mets. They were rubbing on the nerves.
I did physical therapy and am doing pilates to strengthen my core. It has helped. I also discovered that the ibuprofen I had been taking for over a year could cause additional pain among other things. I went off it two weeks ago and my pain is now from my workouts rather than other stuff.
Our minds immediately go to progression with any new pain and that is normal, but there can be other causes.
All the best!

Kay,
In fall 2014, I had some painful spasms in my hip/pelvis bone. They came on suddenly and I was convinced they were mets but I was too chicken to request a scan. The spasms disappeared quickly, but I kept feeling on and off discomfort in the area. This continued until my brain mets Dx won me a round of body scans. Nothing showed up in my bones at all. After about six months of clear CTs, the discomfort disappeared completely.
The spasms were real, but they probably came about from some benign cause like sleeping on my hip funny. And once they happened, I got super paranoid and started imagining pain where there is none.
I'm not saying your pain isn't real, but we always should also consider that the mind is very powerful and stress can make minor discomfort seem much more dire than it actually is

No experience with this kind of thing, K, but sounds like there could be many (many) different explanations other than mets. If possible I would hold on to the idea of the good Pet results (yea!). I'm betting its going to be OK. Best to you, SUE

Thanks for the responses ladies. The MRI is on Thursday. The pain remains the same, so we'll see what happens! Fingers crossed!

Karynic, I'm praying everything is okay. Hang in there.

MRI rescheduled for the 25th.....sigh.....they decided to do it with contrast so that meant rescheduling? So weird.
-
With contrast takes more time. . .they schedule those machines so tightly there isn't a spare minute.
So sorry you have to wait another week. Hang in there!
