Diet advice for Liver Mets
I have never been keen on special/extreme diets, but since being dx with liver mets in Nov 16 I've been thinking about what food would be good for my liver and what might be best to avoid.
I dont want to go too far down the supplement route and would really like to improve my foodchoices. I am taking Vit D3 and was wondering if I should add calcium as I'm taking Anastrozole.
Your personal ecperiences would be very helpful.
Thanks
Sarah

Hi Scwilly, Do you have an integrative onc in your area? That would be so helpful in finding a diet & supplements. That way you'll know they'll be beneficial & not harmful. Some of the supplements I take are mushroom extracts & pills. Fungi-Perfecti has a mushroom mix especially for the liver. Host Defense Myco Liver Botanicals. Fungi-Perfecti is a well respected & trusted company. This isn't much help but its a start. Have a blessed holiday & may the peace of God be with you. April

Calcium is probably a good thing to add because you are on Arimidex and, additionally, there are studies indicating that Calcium and Vitamin D supplementation improves outcomes. My onc requests that I take them.
I have had liver mets for two years now and just try to eat a balanced, healthy yet realistic diet. No fads. No strict "rules".

I have looked into this question and didn't come up with anything specific to liver health other than avoid alcohol. By the way, my onc told me of a study that showed that while calcium foods are important, calcium supplements can promote cardiovascular problems without protecting against broken bones.

Like shetland, I am not a fan of calcium supplements as they contribute to calcium deposits in bad places including arteries, tonsils and what not. My body is riddled with the stuff and I don't need more.
I've study cancer nutrition and I had liver mets; however, I am not aware of anything specific for the liver. There are lifestyle choices - basically diet, stress and exercise - you can make that are proven to effect cancer outcomes generally. Anti-Cancer a New Way of Life is my favorite book on lifestyle and cancer. There are several good one's. You are likely to get other suggestions. The one that feels right is the one that will work for you.
Ginger infusion with lemon is pitched as a liver cleanse. That may or may not be true, but with a little honey it is AWESOME.
The ladies on the liver mets thread will have more to say on this topic and anything else related to your liver.

Thank you all for your advice. Sorry I haven't responded earlier, I've been on a trip home to the U.K. for the festive season.
I have given up alcohol - which at first was not an issue because I felt a little nauseous with Arimidex, so didn't want any. However, I've been a bit sad I wasn't been able to join in with celebrations or have some lovely cask ale when back in the U.K. I'm still getting my my head around my diagnosis - so feel resentful at the moment regarding this.
I do tend to cook from scratch so am looking forward to eating v healthily in the new year.
Best wishes for 2017. Going to do some research with your suggestions.
