    Wow Wren44 - that has been my experience, but I thought it was because I had not lost a close human since losing my mother (which was very hard). I felt guilty for talking about my grief, and likewise, others didn't really acknowledge it in the way I was feeling it when I lost my sweet Ms Boo in 2013.

    KayaRose I think one thing that makes it extra hard is because everyone knows that if you have lost a member of your family it is socially accepted that you are bereaved and grieving. There is some support, whether it is people coming to the funeral or turning up with gifts of food. You can talk about the lost loved one, and reasonable people will understand why you need to do this, If you have lost an animal member of your household you have to carry on in grief with less support.     Our shelter has a Pet Loss Support Group that meets weekly to provide a place for people to mourn their loss with others who totally understand. Very moving to watch the support.

    Good advice from everyone. It's really appreciated. I just made a donation to the shelter in memory of my kitty. It made me feel good knowing it will help another little cutie find a home. My vet's office sent a beautiful sympathy card that the whole staff signed. It does make a difference when others understand the loss. Now I think I will watch a few funny cat videos and try to cheer myself up a bit. Love those cat videos.

    Just had to post a pic of the cutest kitten alive. Her name is Tigerlily and she was just listed as available at the shelter. I'm partial to calico and black kitties.

    I just showed my partner the picture of Tigerlily, and she said 'omg lets get her!'. Lol it would be a long trip home for her. Hopefully she's too cute to be at the shelter long

    Goldie, that was my reaction to Tiger lily too. I don't think she'll last thru Monday. She has already had phone calls.

    Love the bat cat, but always wonder if the owner was shredded later. I don't think I could get anything like that on Squeakers. At Christmas, we have little scarves for the cats to wear while adopters are there.

    Wren, My heart kitty was a big and manly guy...... who loved dressing up and didn't mind hats! I think the Bat Cat head gear would take an extra special cat though. And some thick gloves! Squeakers wears a harness; I bet he wouldn't mind a nice shirt ☺

    Hope Tigerlily finds the purrfect home. Christmas scarves for the kitties - cute!

    Shepkitty - I know a few cat breeders who would die to have that batman hat. While I'm not one to dress my kitties up, these breeders have annual balls (affiliated with cat shows) for that very purpose! That hat is just too cool (I still won't do it).

    This is Charlie. I took care of him last week and what a sweetie. He is back from his Big Adventure. Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.

    Shelter update: People brought in a cat to be euthanized, saying it was 15yo and belonged to a homeless person. Officers took the cat and told them only the owner can request that. Volunteers have fallen in love with him. He's 21lbs and aptly named Cuddles. Walked around the shelter on a leash and was totally chill. Now he has an adoption pending. The real owner never turned up, so I hope that person is ok.

    Maybe the people who brought him in were the real owners but too ashamed to admit they were dumping their old cat?

    You know sometimes folks do insane things to get rid of a pet they can't care for anymore. I am glad they didn't euthanize the cat and he probably isn't even 15. Happy endings.

    We had to euthanize our dear Percy cat at age 16 from kidney failure, anemia and hyperthyroid disease several weeks ago. It was fiercely hard bawled my eyes out. The vet could see he lost 1/2 his weight, drinking constantly, labs off, peeing bloody urine-- it was time. Interestingly the same vet gave us a run for the money when a year ago we euthanized our 18 year old terrier mix for dementia and incontinence. She looked good for 18, but the vet wasn't the one awakened at 2-4 am every night and he wasn't cleaning puddles and poopies every morning for a year. The vet made us feel kind of bad that if we just locked her up she could keep going.. but she barked her fool head off to get visitors at 2 am and we were all so sleep deprived. I finally decided that senile dementia in a dog was reason enough. Our 18 year old dog was happily clueless and we stayed right with her. The owners know.

    Now that Percy is gone our youngest cat Emmy bully's our old toothless grey tabby Zoey. Zoey is 13 and gimpy shoulder and has no teeth, she can't defend herself. Emmy will swat at Zoey and chase her under the bed. She is just a crabby jerk. Any suggestions to make this relationship better? Sometimes I wonder if we shouldn't get a kitten to divert attention and give Emmy someone to playwith. Emmy is only 8 and in the peak of health. The problem is I am at the end of my life and not doing well, so I will be out of the picture. If the relationship of Emmy and kitten goes against Zoey then the poor old 13 year old lady will be miserable. My DD3 would love another kitten. Since you are all cat/kitten lovers what wisdom do you have on this situation?

    Hello all. I am still around and pop up every now and then. So sory about the fur babies who have gone. We had our old beautiful boy put to sleep last year after he had a stroke. The vet was wonderful and had us hold him while she injected him. He was 18.

    I had intended to get a companion for our Gus who is nearly 12 but so far haven't.

    Rosevalley - i brought a kitten home to my "widowed" 8 year old female. It was a total energy mismatch. I ended up getting a second kitten and everyone is happy. There's a tiny piece of info
