It's a hotel. With a pool that allows you to swim from the inside to the outside!

Thanks roosarider, I have seen people using them. They may come in handy. Thanks for the heads up.
-
Zarovka, I hope the affectionate smile came through with my T-shirt comment. I think you have such determination and it is so awesome the way you do not give up! Yes, victory. Lol, I sometimes wonder if the older ladies in one of my yoga classes wonder what I am doing in their class. Well, I wonder, too, but there it is. Have fun tonight! Ten is such a great age.

Today, I ramped it up a notch and did a couple of planks. Those are brutal, but Im sure I can continue with those as i dont need anything special as far as equipment goes. I also did some 3 stair cilimbs up and down. My balance leaves something(actually alot) to be desired so I feel this is a good place to start and get a little rise in my heart rate, too. Im keeping a bit of a journal so I can see what works for me and what doesnt. I plan to try some cycling on a stationary bike next week. The local rec centre has drop ins available so Ill give it a go.
My eldest daughter has ms and has all sorts of physical issues. In the 15 years since her diagnosis she has married, given home birth to 4 girls and lived in 5 different locations across the country due to her husband's job. Despite living with a chronic disease she has transformed her life, much of it due to exercise. She is my personal role model and inspiration. I have seen the changes first hand and know the benefits physically and psychologically. They live closer to us now than they ever have and Im sure grateful for that. Im not ready to"throw in the towel" yet! This old body still has some miles left on it with a little TLC. I read this thread daily, and enjoy it alot. Thanks everyone!
-
Remz, great story about your daughter. Stationary bike is a great option when balance is an issue. Any rise in the heart rate is good to have. Nordic walking poles can be another if you ever get bored. This suggestion courtesy of roosarider. I am partial to bike myself since I can watch TV at the same time. I tend to like between 10-20 mins. I don't like longer. Shorter bursts multiple times are just as good as a longer burst. Any activity moving our muscles, upping heartrate feel good and do us good as well. Great job.

Hi guys. I haven't posted in a while but have kept my exercise up still just walking 8-10ks most days and yoga and Pilates. I gave Dragon boating a go last weekend and really enjoyed it. There are 2 breast cancer teams and both we're recruiting for the summer season. I would like to have joined but you need to be able to train 2 week nights a week and as I don't finish work till 7pm in another part of town so this year at least it just won't work.
Starting to get a bit bored and not really getting as much out of my exercise as I want so need to find something different to do over this summer. Money is a bit of an obstacle as I'm a single mum living in one of the most expensive cities in the world so there's not a lot left over at the end of the week. I did a great paddle boarding course last summer which was free at the time but I cant afford to keep it up now I need to pay. I guess it's walking and community centre yoga till I win the lottery.
Love hearing how everyone is doing. Keep up the good work ladies

Shetland Pony - I thought the runs with scissors joke was really funny. I seem to injure myself doing something silly every week. I somehow displaced 3 of my ribs in one of my adventures. I don't even know which one. My chiropractor is getting really frustrated with me. I don't know why since I am paying for her new car.
Remz - nice job. I sometimes need to get to a gym or a class to get motivated, but with bodyweight exercise and no special equipment, one can get quite a workout at home. I have a lot of fun with Nike+ Fitness on our xbox. No equipment at all. All bodyweight. Quite a workout. I did find a set of freeweights in a perfect range of sizes - 8lb, 10lb, 12lb and 15lb behind our local goodwill last month. I decided it was a sign from god and I stole them. (Went back the following week and gave them a donation) Now I have a set of weights at home.
Shazza - Good to here from you. There is something cheap and fun out there. Biking? Soccer? Keep it up.

remz, a year ago I had real balance issues. Most of it was probably psychological. I just didn't trust my legs, so I wouldn't even go down stairs without holding on for support. A year later, I can run up and down those stairs, sometimes two at a time, without holding on. It was a mixture of core work, leg work in the form up step ups (which I hate) and some balance work through yoga and using a bosu ball. The difference in a year is amazing, but i had to slowly build that up and it did take work. I would love to see you get your balance back. I think the worst thing we can do is fall, the second worst thing is to literally not being able to pick yourself up off the ground.
Still on the couch recuperating from this nasty virus, but high hopes for next week.
Stefanie
-
Thx, Stefanie, I agree about falling etc. My issues with balance are not psychological by any stretch ofthe imagination. I've been a klutz all my life but it certainly has become worse in the last year. I am doing the step work you mention, and yes it's a drag for sure! But I am committed to this issue. I am confident I can at least conquer this. I recently got new glasses which have made matters worse as they are transition lenses and I hadn't bothered to even have an eye exam for the last 10 years. Time goes quickly and I should know better but there it is. I fully expect to be at least using the stairs without the rails in no time. Your encouragement is much appreciated. Ive got a bit of a bug myself. Hope you get back on track, soon!
Shelley -
Ouch on those displaced ribs, Zarovka. Hope they heal quickly. Nice loot from goodwill. Yesterday I ordered one set of 1.5 kg free weights to add to the set of 2.5 kg kettlebells I have at home.
Shazza, too bad on not being able to do dragon boating. You were really looking forward to that. Maybe they will let you sub for someone who can't make it to training?
Remz,
for your daughter!
Also putting a word in for the bosu ball. I used it regularly for cardio standing on the flat part and shifting weight from one side to the other while listening to music in the dark. I often use it these days for weight training as well, lifting it up and landing on it when doing a burpee, for example. Now that the temperatures are dropping I'm looking for more indoor exercise opportunities for DD and me. I think I found something and will go to the store to try it out tomorrow - a portable stepper with elastic bands.
-
Hello all. I love mountain biking and today went on a moderate ride with my husband. Any ride is better than no ride. My lungs however, because of the mets, puff like Mr Frump and his iron lungs when exerting uphill. I surely hope and pray that Ibrance can clear my lungs. It is a drag to slow on your exercise regimen. No falls on the bike, I am ok usually riding. It is walking where I am not so steady. Go figure.
-
Backup on the proverbial horse tomorrow.
Can't wait!
-
well I've been keeping up with the 3 hours per weekof cardio weight training so far this month. Did a few neighborhood walks with my dogs this week before the rain got here and feeling really good keeping my goals.
Hope everyone is also using thier muscles and feeling good about it
-
Good job Pagej.
Stefajoy, hope you were feeling better today and able to get moving as you wanted to.
Roosarider, nothing wrong with flat when is needed. Still a good workout. I hope the Ibrance clears your lungs out too.
I did 80 mins of stationary bike. Not all at once. Broke it up into several 10 to 20 min at a time. I have read that as long as you can do at least 10 mins, there is just as much benefit of several workouts versus one superlong one. That makes me happy because 10 mins especially is easy to do. I am happy with my progress thus far.
Hope everyone else had a good day.
-
Pagej..I concur, using my muscles and feeling good about it. I'm not up to 3 hours a week yet, but I am working on it!
Mara51506- I've read that too, and find it works for me as well. Something is better than nothing.I can tell it's working I have sore muscles in the areas I need to improve, and I can hear my heart rate increase. well done!
All in all I'm pleased what I have accomplished so far. Off the couch and moving!
-
It's great to see so many people moving and posting.
Last weekend was a long weekend in New Zealand, Labour weekend. It usually heralds the start of summer and the first BBQ of the season. I managed three 10k walks so was fairly happy with that.
I downloaded the Nike Fitness+ app which I think Z uses and have started on a programme at home. We will see how that goes.
A picture from my Sunday walk. Summer is finally making an appearance
-
New Zealand is lovely!
Rode into town and back with my kids. Tee-ing up Nike+ Fitness tonight. Rested yesterday. Long bike ride on Sunday.
I'd love to hear how everyone is doing.
>Z<
-
Great job all! Such inspiring updates. New Zealand looks amazing, I've always wanted to see it. I'm in Portland OR so that summer looks very inviting. Lots of rain around here this week.
I've been making an effort to up my physical activity this week. More exercise = Feel better + Sleep better. I've never found the upper limit, even though my feet have been hurting so much lately. I'm extra nervous about a bike accident when it's so wet, but getting out there anyway.
The fall color has been gorgeous and a good motivator. I've sneaked in some extra long walks and a bike ride to hit my favorite routes before winter really sets in. Yesterday the sun peeked out mid-walk and the air was calm and almost glowing. By the time I got home it was dark and spitting rain. If I hadn't of been out on a walk I would have missed the whole thing.
-
My feet hurt as well. Hard to plan a workout when I don't know if I will be able to run, but biking generally is okay.
Planning a jog today while my daughter is in orchestra. Lymphatic drainage this afternoon.
Keep moving ladies!
>Z<

30 mins so far on my stepper. I am liking 5 mins at a time, usually listen to a favourite song when doing it. Plan to hit the stationary bike later.
Was relieved because I have been approved for both disability funds from my government (provincial and federal). I have also been approved to have a loan paid off due to insurance I had taken out for disability. This makes day to day easier for me. Am climbing into machines this week for a bone scan done yesterday and CT to be done Friday this week. Making sure if I am still NED from neck down to decide what further treatment will entail. Fingers crossed that nothing changed since August when they were done last.
Great job everyone on moving. Biking sounds great Z, Shazza, that is a beautiful walk you have. Sherri, you are right about more exercise, better sleep. I have a feeling that is part of why exercise is so good for us for the fatigue. Lots of our treatments cause sleep issues as well as fatigue, the sleeping better is part of the recovery.
-
Jogged, slowly, 3.6 miles today. Tenderly due to muscle and foot pain. But glad to find that it in me. Mostly the only cardio I do is short bursts ...burpees, jump rope, jumping jacks or mountain climbers for a minute at a time. You get your heart going as fast as it can go, then you stop, rest and start again. It's easier on the feet. The interval training seems to have worked as advertised, since I was able to go out there and jog 40 minutes straight while my daughter was in orchestra.
I ran past the same guy 3 times on the loop I was running as he cleaned his yard. The third time he said: Wow you don't give up! I said no, I do not! Nice to have a witness to my little success.
A little strength training planned tonight and it was a good day.
Mara - Nice job on the bike, good luck with the scans.
-
Mara I scan next week too to confirm I am still NED from brain tumor down. I believe and certainly hope I am. This is 3rd scan since my stroke.
Going in for colon hydrotherapy the day before scan bc I've been feeling like my digestion has slowed a bit. I don't know if anyone else does this as part of a health routine but it's nice to do, especially before imaging
Off to work out, would rather lay on couch but will feel so much better if I don't.
Good luck with your scans and good job everyone! Peace and love
-
Thanks Pagej, good luck for your scans as well. Hope they are NED as well. I agree, feels better when I have been moving. I even feel like I am coming along faster than I would have thought with whole brain radiation. Hopefully can keep going with more good days than bad.
Great job and persistence Z. I am not a jogger but certainly my hat is off to anyone who is.
-
Mara, Z and Pagij,
You'rean inspiration! Love seeing what you all are doing! Worked out this morning and hiked with my daughters in Santa Fe...hard to breathe but I made it. Now time for sight seeing after a little oxygen therapy and chlorophyll drink to help with altitude sickness. Never heard of the green drink but so happy to not have a migraine the first morning at altitude!!
Refuse to think about Mr C today when I'm with my girls. Hope you all have a good day!!
-
lwrite - I wonder if you are talking about Santa Fe, NM. I live in Los Alamos, NM about 30 minutes away and spent the day in Santa Fe, shopping for fabric for my daughters costume and taking a yoga class. We are having wonderful weather.
30 minutes of strength training this evening.
I will ride my bike down from the Santa Fe Ski Area to town with my daughter. 6 miles of standing on pedals. Quite the quad workout.

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. Hope you all have had a good, active week.
Fall weather has arrived-with wind, rain, and the first snowfall of the season, so I've been in the gym a few times, walking on the treadmill and using the exercise bikes. Also managed a couple of outside bike rides. Today I did a two mile trail walk. I had hoped to walk further, but my hip started aching so decided to quit then. Next time I will wear my ol' faithful stability shoes and see if that keeps the hip happier.
Hoping to get out for another walk tomorrow and maybe a short bike ride too. Gotta keep moving one way or another!
Take care Ladies and have a good weekend.
-
Nice workout Bionic!
I did a long downhill mountain bike with a surprise 600 foot climb at the end. I face planted at one point. Not much damage but a lot of blood on my face. I called it my halloween costume and I kept going. My balance and concentration and reaction time are all off. Can't get used to it.
But it was a nice day with my daughter and great exercise.
Rest day tomorrow. Biking with friends on Sunday.
Have a great weekend everyone! What are you up to?

Had a CT scan earlier today. Did not get any exercise since the oral contrast they give first always upsets my stomach. Took some Pepto at home and took it easy. Watched TV. Will find out if latest bone scan done earlier this week, along with my CT scan will still show me NED below the neck as they did in August. I will find out Tuesday after I meet my MO. We will be discussing where to go next with treatment. Fingers crossed that I only have to worry about my brain for a while at least.
Will be back at bike and/or walking tomorrow.
Z, ouch your face. You have my admiration for the way you keep at it though, glad you are OK from the sounds of it, outside of your face. Poor thing.
Hope everyone else had a decent day too.
-
Mara - the contrast can have all kinds of effects. I am delaying my scan two months because I hate the stuff. Feels like I have the flu. Fingers crossed for great scan results on Tuesday. Hope you have some distraction this weekend as waiting is the pits.
>Z<
-
Thanks Z. For some reason, I am not too worried about it this time around. I plan to enjoy the weekend. I haven't had any new problems crop up so I am fairly confident there aren't new mets. If there is, I know it will mean chemo of some sort. I have only been off treatment approximately two months so fingers crossed that surgery and nuking my brain will be enough to hold them off. For now I feel OK and curious what my MO will propose on Tuesday.
Thanks for the good wishes though. Hope you have a good weekend too, enjoy rest for tomorrow and the ride with your friends on Sunday as well.
