I have a sad update on Oreo. Although he seemed to be doing very well after his procedure; eating, drinking, "talking" etc., it all must have been too much trauma for his 17 year old body, and he passed away last night in his sleep. He was a much loved sweet, naughty kitty (if cats had tombstones, his would read, "Oh No, OREO!") and he will be truly missed.
-
Oh Ruth I am so sorry for you and Oreo's buddy Henry. At least he was home and knew he was loved and adored. It is so hard to lose a fur-baby. Much love and hugs your way as you all grieve a 17 year old friend. We will be passing this way soon for our dear Percycat and I am not looking forward to it. Much love your way.
-
Ruth - I'm so sorry!!! Oreo, sweet Oreo. What a beautiful guy. Hugs for you and your family.
-
Oh Ruth... I'm so sad for you. I also lost my bestie when he was 17. Such a blessing to have our special kittes in our lives; if only they could stay with us longer. Deepest sympathies for you and your family. Rest in peace sweet Oreo ♥
-
Thanks ladies. We have another cat, Henry (he and Oreo were cellmates at the Humane Society). He is a kind of cranky guy, so I don't know if he will miss Oreo or be glad to be getting all of the attention.
As sad as it sometimes is; I think we are all so lucky to have the love for, and the love of, our animal companions.

I lost one of a pair 3 years ago (also both tuxedos)...about 7 years old then. My girlfriend lost one of two that she had for at least 11 years, 10 years together. We both experienced the same thing with our remaining females. Meow Meow Meow Meow...much more talking. Are they asking us where their "friend" went? It's not clear to either of us, still. I waited about 4 months and brought home a kitten (my first Devon Rex). My tuxedo seemed happier, though annoyed at the energy difference, so I brought home another kitten 5 months later, also a Devon. Now she is the old maid observing the chaos they create, but to my mind, so much happier than being alone. She was the submissive in the tuxedo duo I had. Now she kind of thinks she is charge.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved cat. It's so sad to say goodbye to them, that's the measure of the love they bring into our lives
-
So sorry Ruth I don't currently have cats but I'm a cat person and I know what it feels to loose one of them. Sending you (((hugs))) of comfort and prayers for peace.

So sorry Ruth---he knew he was loved and cared for till the end. We should all be so fortunate.
-
Condolences for you and Henry. Oreo had a long, full life with plenty of love. It is really sad when they leave. I think they return our love. Cats whose owners have died have to be coaxed to eat and interact with people again, much like people who are in mourning. Hugs.
-
Ruth, I'm so sorry to hear about Oreo.
-
Ruth - Sincere Condolences on the loss of your beloved Oreo. I am happy for him that he died gently in his sleep. XXX
-
Shep thank you for the happy coda to the Turkish story. Thank God for kind souls.
-
Ruth, so sorry to hear about Oreo. It is hard when a beloved pet passes away as they are very much a part of our family.
-
Ruth (dashing away my own tears) My condolences for your loss.
-
Ohhh sorry to hear about Oreo. He was a handsome kitty and loved a long wonderful life. ((Hugs))
-
Ruth, sorry for the loss of Oreo.
ladyboss1997, like a deer caught in the headlights. Cute!
-
So sorry to hear about Oreo. Please remember that you gave him a fantastic kitty life.

My sweet kittens, Renn aka 'Cutest', who died a year ago at 15; Simon aka 'Simon Sweetie', who died earlier this year at 17; and Gus aka 'Gus the Girl' who at 15 still has a kitten's energy. I'm a big believer in when you're lucky enough to have one of the cats sleeping on your lap there's just no moving!!
-
I love seeing the cats who have the big ruff in front like Gus the Girl. They look like they have big ruffled bibs on. All 3 of your cats are good looking. And I agree, no getting up if there's a cat on your lap.
-
Amen to that!
What beautiful photos of your beautiful cats.
RIP to your dear Cutest Renn and Sweet Simon. Long life and happiness to Gus.
-
Not my cat but look at those markings! What a handsome boy.

I think we have a few Brits here and I did find a missing Slovakian cat in New York, so I know anything is possible, so I thought I'd post this Devon Rex cat found in Kent that is missing it's owner. 😂
From Facebook:
This post appeared on my Facebook page, I don't know the person who works at the Cat Protection in Kent, England but please could you copy and paste on your page. Let's hope that the powers of FB can locate this poor fur baby's family. Thanks everyone.
Sent from a friend of mine who works at local cpl in Kent .please share and get this one home no microchip . .
We picked up a stray at Eastwell Manor over the weekend. I know you move in Devon circles so would be interested to hear your thoughts. No one has reported her missing.
If he or she comes up for adoption I can only say this breed is beyond fabulous. (I have two.)
-
Hope she is found or finds a home soon.
-
Poor thing!! I hope they find her family or she gets a new family quickly.
My Percy cat was a bad boy. I had taken some roasted chicken skins and stuck them in a cheese stick bag that I meant to throw out. He got up there stuck his head in the bag and got it stuck. So he was walking around the house howling with this cheese stick bag on his head! Hilarious. I couldn't find a camera and yanked it off .. He sat there disgusted and embarrassed!! His hyper thyroid makes him ravenous. Cats never a dull moment!
-
Just checking in for a minute. You know, I have to say, that when I see the kitty pictures here, I get a big smile. It just brings me back to earth.
One of 'my' cats (I call them mine but they are the cats I sit for) has gone missing and I am so worried about him. I've been to the shelter and check their listing each day. His owner made a really good poster for him and we also have a neighborhood website. This is breaking my heart and I worry so much about the remaining cat as he gets really scared when the other one is away.
If you could say a kitty prayer I would really appreciate it.
Thank you.
Here's a pic of Charlie

My worst nightmare Cowgirl, a missing cat. Mine can roam my backyard or catio (I have a cat fence around the yard), as my heart could not take it. Someone told me once to put a towel used by the owner, slightly damp, hanging outside of the house. I've also received automated calls for an animal missing in the neighborhood. Not sure who provides that service. I assume you are are familiar with Nextdoor ? (Hope that link works.) Hopefully the cat microchiped, so if picked up by Animal Control, etc.., the owner can be found that way.
-
Cowgirl, The shelter here loans traps to people whose cat has gone missing. They usually don't go far if they're on their own. We suggest the owner go out at dusk, carrying the cat's favorite food or treats. Talk very softly and let the cat come to you. One of the volunteers who traps feral cats for spay and neuter swears by Kentucky Fried chicken. The odor evidently carries well. Also put posters in vets offices. And don't give up. Sometimes people take a cat in for a few days and eventually let it out and it comes home. I hope you find him soon.
Please, everyone microchip your cats, especially if they're indoor only. It's the best way to get your cat back. Often indoor cats get outside accidentally and don't know how to get back home.
-
Best wishes for Charlie's safe return Cowgirl.
-
Thanks for all your kind words and suggestions. It really helps me deal with this. Quinn, we do have a Nextdoor for my neighborhood and they have been wonderful in their responses. Wren, excellent suggestions.
Thank you.
