Thanks Zarovka. I am hopeful that some of these drugs will come my way too through trials or whatever. Just trying to stay on with the craniotomy. I hear you about the drugs too. Hope you did not have to stay in bed too long. Sometimes I think the steroids are annoying for the racing thinking/talking too but I can't stop taking them or my brain will explode :P. The decrease in pressure in my head is amazing though. Don't care how long it lasts, is a definite relief.
Had a meltdown today but forced myself out to walk it off. so 2x 20 min walks and two x15 min stationary bike earlier today.
The exercise is helpful but the sleep music I use at night works the best for being able to rest thought free.
Hope everyone is comfortable today and enjoying whatever weather you have.
My area will be stinking hot starting from Tuesday til I enter hospital so any walking would be morning.
-
Mara - It is incredible what you are dealing with. Amazing attitude. Travelled from Vancouver to Sechelt today. Alot of car time usually makes me sick, but not doing badly. Got in an hour of walking along the beach, now resting in a nice vacation rental. I feel so fortunate and unlucky at the same time.
>Z<
-
Glad the car sickness was not severe. Sounds like a wonderful walk. Right up there with you about feeling fortunate and unlucky at the same time. Will be doing may 3x20 min walk and probably some stationary bike. Got some Young and Restless to catch up on.
Good day to everyone here. Looking forward to seeing what others are up to as well. Always enjoy the pictures too.
-
everyone is doing so well, keeping on keeping on despite our struggles.
It's felt a bit like Groundhog Day here mostly because it's rained everyday for over 60 days. Hard to stay motivated but I'm keeping with the program even if it meant doing Saturday's 10k walk on the treadmill. So boring.
Today, my birthday dawned bright and sunny so I really enjoyed my walk this morning. Just a couple of photos. The 2nd one is for you Z.
Have a great week everyone. So love seeing all your posts.

maryK87. Hi there. I have had stage iv to multiple area of my bones since October of 2015. I use terry naturally curcumin and I also go for vitamin c iv. It is very good for pain and believe me, I understand the pain. Give either ir both a try, you never know what's going to work. Hope this helps you
-
Great picture Shazza. Good job on the walking even if on treadmill.
Did my walks and stationary bike in between appointments but felt good. Done for the day now. Time to get my steroid/tegretol and start relaxing toward bed.
Have a good night all.
-
Just a quick hello to everyone, and happy birthday wishes to you shazzakelly. Thank you for posting the photos. They were great.
I've been walking, biking and swimming. Enjoyed a nice bike ride with my daughter today. Saturday my husband, brother and I did a 15 mile ride and then spent some time together at lunch-a very nice day. Tomorrow's plan includes meeting my friend at 6 am for a bike ride (usually we get in about 10 miles), then back home to work (I work from home), then off to the lake with my other daughter for a swim when she is finished at work. I find it hard to get everything done but I feel better when I keep busy and moving.
Hope everyone has a good evening.
-
Nice Voltorb Shazza. Voltorb is generally found in power plants and other areas with electric fields. Interesting that you found it on the beach. What level are you?
I tried downhill mountain biking today for the first time with my kids and my brother and my nephews. Coast Gravity Park in British Columbia.
Five hours. OMG. It was a lot of fun. Out again tomorrow, if I can walk to the car.
Glad to see that no one has been sitting around.

Happy Birthday Shazza!
Good luck on the 12th Mara....I'll be thinking about you. Please let us know how it goes.
I agree with you on the sleep aspect, Z.....sleep is the one thing I totally need, or everything else falls apart. I take Adivan every night before bed....they gave it to me when I was hospitalized for so long when I was diagnosed and now I am afraid I am addicted, but it does the trick.
I did an 8 mile hike up to 12K feet on Sunday with my hiking group, and it really wore me out. We are leaving tomorrow on our annual "big" hiking trip.... 12 women. We are hiking into a hut in the San Juan Mountains near Ouray, Colorado... and then next day hiking 12 miles to Telluride, and next day 12 miles back. Really worried about my ability to keep up....but I am still looking forward to it.
Hello to everyone else... keep moving....I know it helps!
XO
Andrea
-
Couldn't agree more about the sleep. A good nights sleep makes everything better. I've tried a couple of sleep aides, but they all just left me feeling tired. Now I use the Ativan too. I don't need it every night, but it works quick when I do.
I'm on the hunt for a good hat to wear for outside workouts. I've lost my hair again, so I need to keep my head covered and out of the sun. All my hats either don't have enough coverage or are too hot. Anyone have a go-to hat to recommend
-
Hi Nancy you have been so strong with all your treatment.may God bless you
I have a quick question.Did having Fulvestrant injection caused lot of pain in butts coz I'm having them regularly and it causes pain
For how long are you taking them
-
Third day of downhill mountain biking.
Andrea - I expect that two 12 mile hikes one after the other will be hard. It could also do you a lot of good. I've pushed myself for three days. I am having a really good time mountain biking. 5-7 hours per day. Nothing like good family/friend time and endorphins to clear the side effects. I rest Thursday than back out Friday.
Looking forward to hearing about the hike.

Awesome work everyone. Just doing some stationary bike today. Believe it or not, I bent couple of toes back when walking yesterday so was unable to walk but am kind of happy to have something so silly to worry about. Tomorrow is the big day for surgery. Ready to get this bugger out and see what happens next.
Everyone is so awesome in their workouts etc that as soon as I am able I will be back posting and cheering everyone on ASAP. This board has been a lifesaver since my dx of the brain met.
I do await a bone scan but feeling from MO is that since CT is clear, I am probably NED below the head which should aid in recovery and for which I am grateful for. Have been able to find positives within the mess of bad news and that is mostly thanks to these boards and all of you living your lives in spite of cancer. I don't think any of you can understand how much all of you meant to me when I was not yet DX metastatic but still stage 3. I always voraciously followed the different threads including this one. Helped me get on with some of the fears of recurrence.
I will let everyone know once out of surgery and to anyone struggling, I will always be in your corner. Those of you working it out inspire me. Thanks again.
-
Mara, good luck with the surgery. I'm sending love and light all the way from New Zealand. Keep us posted
-
Love reading about all the great things everyone is doing. Hope all is well with the hiking and mountain biking-I'm so impressed with all that you are doing.
Sherriw-I have some hair this summer, very short and thin, and my favorite hat is a "ball cap" type of running hat made by Headsweats. It is cool and lightweight, and basically covers my head. I would have liked more coverage when I was bald, but wore it anyway because it was comfortable.
Mara-I was thinking of you today while I was walking on the treadmill. I am inspired by your can-do attitude and I hope all goes well with your surgery and that we will be hearing from you soon.
I am planning to do a little longer walk tomorrow, maybe four miles or so, depending on how early I get started, so better turn off the Olympics and head for bed.
-
Mara I'm thinking of you. Hope you have an easy recovery and can join us soon on our exercise journey.
Just the usual here for me. Winter is still here and the weather is rubbish. I've managed to keep up my walking and get to yoga and Pilates this week.
-
Love the pictures Shazza. Craniotomy went well. Probably walked a couple of hours off and on between rest. No cognitive problems yet. Will take couple weeks to biopsy tumour and get neuroscience once treatment. I have been lucky so far, body is strong. Thanks for asking after me.
-
Mara-So glad to hear from you. We'll keep hoping for good results from the biopsy. I think the waiting is the hardest part for me. I will be having scans this Monday and get the results on Friday so not too long to wait. I am glad you are already able to be up and walking, pretty amazing!
Nice photos Shazza. Thanks for sharing with us. We are in the middle of one of the hottest, driest summers that I remember. My husband, daughters, and I did a "reverse sputter" triathlon today. Shorter than a sprint, only 2.5 mile walk/run, 5 mile bike, and 200 yard swim, which we did in that order. We finished with the swim at the gym and did the outside work first because of the heat. It was in the nineties when we finished and I was happy to get in the pool. We do a couple of these family triathlons every year and have a lot of fun.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend.
-
Bionic, I definitely can see waiting for scans would be hard. Hope yours are what you are looking for.
Getting really bored in hospital. Need kitty and my own bed. No weakness/cognitive issues, walking the floor probably 3x20 mins but looking forward to my exercise bike.
I am supposed to meet my neuro onc and hopefully blow this popstand if i MRI shows less swelling. I am certainly not a patient person since I still feel fine. Staples are weird but not bad all things considered.
Hope you all have a decent day out there.
-
Bionic bunny I had scans on Monday too and will get the results Friday. I will keep my fingers crossed for both of us. Of course everything hurts and feels like progression but I'm sure it's my mind playing tricks on me.
Mara hope you get home soon. Being stuck in hospital is such a drag.
We finally have some fine weather. I'm off out on my walk.
Have a great week everyone
-
Meant to update here too. I did get released today so will be sleeping in my own bed. Got lots of walking in while still in hospital but taking it easy today. Will be starting stationary bike next couple of days and going out couple times per day to get ready for all the next neuro/oncology/bone scan etc appts. Those are coming but am happy to be out, no issues and just enjoying being home.
Thanks everyone for the good wishes, you guys did awesome. Shazza my best thoughts towards your scans. I can imagine how scary that is since that will be me and my brain going forward. I will see how I handle that end of things later. Not too much experience yet, MRI's only found on original lesion but MRI yesterday was just to check on swelling to make sure OK to release me etc. Little bit of swelling but am on a tapering schedule for this round of dex. (At least until we figure out how to attack the brain). Little part of tumour was wrapped around artery but I am sure radiation will be applied once brain healed from the surgery. Will get a better game plan at my next cluster of appointments.
For now will do my bike, check on everyone here and be hoping the best for everyone with activity, not to many SE fro
m various treatments and hoping that scans go as well as possible for everyone. Much love Mara.
-
Hi everyone-my scan results were okay, generally stable, with minimal progression, so I will be staying on current chemo for now. Hope your results were okay too Shazza.
How are you doing Mara? Must seem good being in your own home.
I managed to get in a quick ride on my horse this morning before doctor's appointment and chemo. Great way to start a long day before the not-fun stuff. If my dex energy holds up, my daughter and I have a plan for tomorrow that starts with a short ride on the horses, followed by biking, walking and shopping. I've already warned her that at some point she may find me sleeping in the car!
Looking forward to hearing how everyone is doing. Have a great weekend.
-
Light workouts since Monday as I transition back from downhill mountain biking maniac to soccer mom. Hope to do a jog walk on the trails behind my house with my daughter tomorrow.
Just finishing the last of three weeks on Ibrance Starting my week off sunday. This is always a rough time with a lot of fatigue and heaviness. Legs and feet still stiff and tired from mountain biking. That should not be the case, but maybe the drugs delay recovery? In any case, muscles hurt walking down stairs. My last intense exercise (and it was really intense) was Monday.
Shazza - fingers crossed for awesome scans.
Mara - I am in awe. With your will and your plan, I think you can expect an astonishing recovery.
Bionic Bunny - Brilliant way to keep the cancer stuff in its place. Chemo sounds like an errand you ran between horseback riding and biking, just where it should be.
Thanks for the updates from everyone getting on with their lives. I needed rest today. I was tired from travel and medication. It was mostly napping and olympics but tomorrow I will get back at 'em. You guys show me how its done. This thread keeps away the self pity like nothing else.
Sleep well.

I have been out of hospital since the 15th
Weaning off the Dex so a bit more achy due to arthritis. Still amazed and grateful that craniotomy went so well. No pain related to it.
Exercising mostly thru exercise bike for now. Arthritic feet not allowing walks other than where necessary bit am able to shop as needed.
Bionic stable sounds good to me too. I will be hopefully hearing that too.
Z glad to hear soccer mom for you. Normal is what I am striving for as well.
I have to laugh though because of course I have staples from craniotomy and it is the adults who sort of stare or ask vs the kids. I was at the store and a lady thought it was special I could shop by myself. I was irritated at first but let it go deciding that I am lucky to be out. I just would never ask a stranger their story like that. Oh well.
I hope everyone gets a decent week and I will check in sooner.
-
Mara great to hear you are recovering well. Bionic Bunny we got the same scan results mostly stable. I'll be staying on weekly taxol. Next month I'll have been on it for 3 years straight.
Everyone seems to be doing some pretty intense and interesting workouts. Me not so much. Still just my walking and Pilates and yoga. After over 2 months of nothing but dull, grey, wet winter days the last week has just been glorious. I've really enjoyed walking in the sunshine. Today I walked a 13 km route with a friend. It's all leading towards a 21k walk for breast cancer in October. I think I'm on track.
Sunday morning yoga tomorrow.
Have a great week every
-
Mara, keeping fingers crossed for you and glad things went so well. The run of stable news here will hopefully apply to you soon. Shazzakelly, 3 years is awesome! I'm not sure I've ever walked that far but would love to do that 21k walk with you. Must be very scenic. I'll also maybe try Pokemon Go even if DD thinks it's dumb. BionicBunny, great that your DD can drive for you, can't wait for that to happen in our family. Zarovka, hope you got some rest. Yesterday was a rest day for me, too. DD wants to do some partner workouts tonight with me. School starts on Monday so things will be back to normal here.
-
Shazza - 13km is a long way. 21km is an aggressive goal by any standard. There are days when my daughters school, which is 1km away, is long walk. Just depends on where I am at any given moment.
Pokemon definitely gets me and my DD's out of the house and goofing around together. This morning we jogged until something spawned. Caught it. Jogged again until a pokemon spawned. It's pretty fun interval training for 12 yr olds and their silly mothers. To ramp it up one would sprint between pokey man, but not there yet.
good to hear everyone doing so well.
Keep moving ladies!
>Z<
-
Mara I hope you continue to heal well. How has everyone's week gone so far.
I ended up having an one on one yoga session yesterday where we were able to work on all my sore tight bits from all the walking I'm doing. Especially my bum and hips. After last weeks fine weather the rains back with a vengeance. After a slow start this morning I put on my wet weather gear and hit the streets. There was only me and some water fowl at the lake today, oh and a squirtle.
-
Thanks Shazza. Still doing well from surgery.
Dealing with sore swollen feet from the steroids from water retention. Am off them now so working with natural diuretics ie celery, dandelion tea, cabbage, water etc to get swelling down so can walk again. Also have some good compression stockings to help as well as broke out my ibuprofen for pain. It is the only thing that has helped for the foot pain.
Am starting to ride exercise bike more in the meantime. Starting at about 10-20 mins per day working up since this will get me exercised without hurting feet.
No other issues re surgery, staples came out yesterday. Washed my hair for the first time in two weeks which was exciting.
Hope everyone else is doing well this week. Love the Squirtle too.
-
Mara - thanks for the update. Always thinking of you. Moving around, with moderation, will reduce the swelling. If you do yoga, try twists and inversions. Might be something to consider while feet are swollen. Yoga gives a lot of health bank for the effort buck.
Just getting over a couple days in bed after a tooth extraction. I've was on pain killers for four days but I got myself to a yoga class yesterday and hiked 4 miles. Today I jogged a bit and went to a tougher yoga class.
Shazza - good job getting out in the wet weather. It will be getting cold here soon. I need to figure out my cold weather fitness strategy.
