Pet scan
I have to go for a pet scan on Wednesday. I am scared to go. They told me so much directions that I have a headache(lol). The day before you can't eat a lot of things. Mostly of what I eat so I don't know what I am going to eat. The day of the test no food, they give you a sugar test and an I v. With stuff in it.has anyone had this test if so please help. Thank yo

Did they give you a phone number to call with questions? The evening before (about 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM) I eat plain eggs, plain chicken, plain nuts, and plain broccoli. Then nothing but water starting 12 hours before the scan.
Tychad, are you scared of the process of having the test? Or of what the results might be?

Tychad, don't be afraid of the test. I've had it many times and it's easy. As ShetlandPony says, sometimes its the results that are hard to deal with.
Usually it's no heavy exercise for 24 hours before and no eating for 6-8 hours before, but every center is different. Just stay away from sugar. Vegetables should be fine. . .
The best part is that once it's over you can treat yourself to whatever you'd like to eat! I usually go for a big blueberry muffin.

Ty, the test itself isn't painful. You have a special diet the day before. No carbohydrates like bread, beans, rice, fruit or veggies. Just meat and eggs and hard cheese. Then fast overnight till the test.
Try to stay busy with something the day before to keep your mind occupied but don't do anything strenuous. I usually go shopping as its kind of mindless and relaxing and keeps my mind on simple stuff.
You probably ave a number to call to go over the process. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Trained personnel know how to instruct you. Best wishes

Tychad,
Here is a link to the diet plan that my hospital gives out. I think it is very user friendly, because it lists what you can and can't eat and when and also gives meal suggestions. I hope it helps with ideas for what to have that day before! As the others have said, the test itself is not difficult. Good luck! Let us know how it comes out!

I Had Inflammatory Breast Cancer for 1 year but did not know it until pathology came back from a lumpectomy last Nov. 2015. They did a PET Scan to determine if it had spread to other organs. The PET Scan was nothing compared to the chemo I have survived since then. But it did help my oncologist know what aggressive treatment to put me through. I now have a port but then the only thing that gave me trouble was "finding a vein" lol. You will do fine and it only takes about 1 1/2 hrs.
