Numb chin? How worried should we be?

Looked up numb chin for my mother who has been experiencing it on and off and am sorry I did. Damn you Dr. Google!

When she mentioned it to her onc he didn't seem concerned. It improved and is now getting worse again, which coincides with progression on Faslodex followed by a treatment break while she is in hospital for a broken femur. Is numb chin indicative of progression or is it an SE of chemo or Faslodex? If anyone has any experience with numb chin please share. My mother (and I) are trying not to have a cow over this!

    If you have already googled, than you know it can be a sign of BC brain metastasis or Lymphoma. Email it to her doc or print it out and bring it on an appointment. We often assume that docs know all, but they don't; they have a lot to keep up with. Your post reminded me of a very old ER episode when the internet was new, and a nurse (Julianna Margulies) typed "numb chin" into the computer which led to their finding of lymphoma in a young patient. I hope it is neither for your mom (could be a side effect of medication and many other things) , but you know what you know and the onc should be willing to test or refute based on what he knows about your mom and her cancer.

    Thanks Gracie. It seems that skull mets are also a possible cause and she does have many. She was having jaw pain around the same time this all began and was told it could all be from Zometa as well. I guess we'll have to talk to the onc again.

    well I have chin and lip numbness.  had tests.  it looks like I have cancer in my jaw.   Well I really don't know how to handle this one as a matter of fact I can't handle.   any words of encouragement out there from anyone.

    I gave up worrying right after MBC dx.. You can expect anything anytime.. Onj, other cancer buggers, other forms of cancer.. Yes all do happen and there's no way to escape from them. What you can do instead is to enjoy the other half of your chin which is not numb!

    I've been experiencing the same for almost two years now, weird feeling especially when wearing lipstick;) I hate drinking from a wide glass as I spill half of what's inside each time.. Sometimes gets worse, sometimes gets less numb.. Checked for brain tumors and onj both not available yet.. Could also be SE of the chemo treatment..

    I prefer the denialand and stick with the outcome of bloodwork and MR scan results, which show nothing extra. And I actually find this normal.. If med science was actually that advanced to explain all we MBC patients experience totally, the cure would have long been found, right?

    As the one seating right next to you experiencing the same.. I strongly suggest you/ your mom to enjoy what's left of what this life offers, alıng with what treatment offers. The rest is.. Well doable :)

    Thanks Ebru! For the most part we haven't worried since the onc didn't seem too concerned. She does have mets in her skull and jaw -- and all her other bones for that matter -- so we're guessing it's from those. I made the mistake of Googling (bad girl!) and read some seriously scary shit! Didn't bother to share that shit with her since it's outdated information anyway. Will put it out of our minds and push ahead as we have for almost 4 years now. She got great news from the surgeon about her leg and can start walking again which means she can resume chemo and get things under control IF there has been progression in these past few weeks of being off chemo. Time to get back to enjoying :)
