6 years for me too...
I have also met my six year cancer free anniversary, although it was Tuesday. Although, I do deal with the side effects of treatment, such as tooth decay, aches and pains and what seems like significant cognitive impairment at times (problems with multi-tasking, memory), I do realize that I am quite fortunate to still be here, considering my list of poor prognosis factors. I hope that seeing my six year post gives hope to a recently diagnosed, rather young or old person. I don't post on here that much anymore. At the time of my diagnosis, I was on here daily and I was as afraid as you may be right now reading this. If a fat person, who did nothing, changed nothing in their lives (not even the stress) and may have even at times not been positive and at times was and still is just down right enraged can still be here in six years, than anyone can have this same outcome. Exercise and eating right will put you in the right frame of mind and are good for you (of course) but, unfortunately I did not do either of these things long enough. I cried soo many times the year I had cancer, I can only think of one week I DIDN'T cry, and that was when I was given a week in the Caribbean with my husband sans kids by a very kind co-worker that my husband worked with. Although we all need to not fall apart to the outside world, I can acknowledge that the diagnosis and treatment are difficult. I hope you can come here and get the support you need. I also hope to see congratulations from other long term cancer free women or men on here as well. Hope is good!

Good for you, kathleen1966.
Like you, I have some fairly serious complications from treatment. I entered it, however, very fit and otherwise healthy at age 50. Lots of exercise, excellent diet, etc. I have tremendous empathy for people who have to try to jump those hurdles during and after treatment. I do envy the people who make full recoveries and get their lives back. Well, maybe more am grateful in a general way that some are that fortunate and it's important to know those stories, too.
However, we're still here. :-) I'll take it.
