Has anyone had tumor(s) in their femur? what did you do

Surgery? for a rod implant or rads only?

I just want to know what I should expect. Things are moving so slow...I am ready to scream...

Note; having issues around the holidays suck!

    Fitz, I had a femoral rod inserted back in April 2014. Bone was badly damaged from met and was about to fracture. Had 5 rounds of rads about a month later.

    Hi, I have extensive mets in pelvis and top of both femurs. I got radiation 3 years ago. My scans were sent to an orthopaedic specialist and he thought that pins were not necessary at that time. All the best

    I have several femur tumors on both sides. I haven't had any special treatment for them and actually run on them with no issues. In the beginning, I would feel certain areas as sensitive or painful at times in both femurs and would tailor my activity accordingly so as not to risk any fracture. In some ways, I am "fortunate" that my bones were so excruciatingly painful pretty much everywhere in the beginning, I can now listen to my body and decide what I can handle based on whether or not it causes me pain.

    Do you have pain in your femur? Has your doctor indicated that the femur mets look risky for fracture or are particularly active/extremely lytic? I also recall reading that XGeva can increase risk of a complete femur fracture over time although I think the overall risk is low of that occurring. If you have taken XGeva, it may be worthwhile to ask your doctor about how that risk factors into the mix.

    I had a 2 cm tumour on my upper femur.. It was radiated and has been necrotic since then

    Just had the MRI yesterday. Waiting on the results. Yes, I am in pain when I walk.

    HI Fitz-I had a partial hip replacement in March of 2013 when it was found that the upper end of my femur had been pretty much destroyed by a metastatic tumor. This was followed by radiation on the femur, and chemo has been ongoing. I am able to bike, swim, walk,and do my normal activities.

    I am sorry you are having to deal with this, and wish you a good outcome.
