I had 2 breast lumps, 2 cm and. 7 cm, core biopsy showed the large one as nest like, cribriform pattern IDC while the smaller showed tubular pattern.I had mastectomy and waiting for final report. Is there any cases that had both.

Based on my pre-surgery MRI two different surgeons told me I had a small tubular cancer (IDC-confirmed with core needle biopsy prior to MRI) surrounded by about 5 cm of scattered cribiform DCIS. Both said these (cribiform and tubular) types are often found together.

Final pathology for me ended up showing no cribiform DCIS, just the tubular IDC and some benign calcifications, so they took a bit more of my breast than needed in my lumpectomy surgery. But based on what both surgeons told me when they were expecting both tubular and cribiform cancer types, both are slow growing, generally have a very good prognosis and are often found together.

thank you for reply, I hope the final pathology gives me no more surprises, I am freaked out to have 2 types of cancer, but knowing that they have a good prognosis gave me some relief.

    Thanks again

Hi there, I've just been diagnosed with small cribiform DCIS with early IDC with tubular features. I was so frightened by the DX that I went through lumpectomy without asking more questions or researching anything. I just couldn't deal with the info. But, my doctors kept encouraging me to read and assure me that both these types of cancer, especially in early stages are usually self-contained (do not move outside of breast) and grow very slowly with good prognosis. I wish I done the research earlier! I couldn't really digest what the docs were telling me, I need to see it in print:) So, reading would have reduced a lot of stress! But, good look to you in your treatments. I hope you are feeling calmer after starting your treatments. My doc said that "If you are going to have cancer, these two types are the ones to have." Sounds kind of glib, but I found the statement comforting.
