Hey Girls, well I am glad that is all over. The longer it draws out the harder it gets. Now we can heal and go on. I do miss going over everyday. Every day she said she wanted to die and by golly she finally did. Well hubby leaving at 5 a.m. and we are to get about an inch of snow early. It has rained and been cold. Hope Janie didn't get those awful storms down there. Hubby would of been in the middle of it all had he been able to leave yesterday. He is headed for Texas and darn I would love to go but have Dr. apts. tomorrow and Tue. and Thurs. is Thanksgiving too. My Onky is going to be upset because my Dr. hasn't found out what the mass is yet. I am almost tempted to cancel until next wk. Guess I better get going. I want to see who wins Dancing With The Stars. Stay warm girls, Hugs and thanks for being here and making me feel better, you girls are the best. Mary

    Mary,

It has been pouring the rain for two days.....and cold....just plain ol nasty weather. I saw the very end of DWTS. Emmett was carrying a trophy around hugging everybody so I assume he won.

Hope you get some good things going for you now, especially healthwise. You deserve a break today (and I don't mean McDonald's).

Glad when this week is over. Off next week.

Ooh, well, it's chilly here, but no rain at least. Someone flicked on the "autumn" switch for at least a few days.

Mary, I hope you find out good things at your doc appts. What a drag to have to do that after all you've been going through. I hope they figure out that throat thing QUICK.

Good thing your hubby wasn't down here yesterday. The winds were fierce. Gusts around 40-50 all day. It was weird.

Janie, a week off sounds great. I hope you've got some fun plans. Bundle up.

So we've got some great plans: all us kids, grandkids are going up with my mom to the Black Hills again to celebrate mom's 75th. Her birthday's in January, but we can't all get up there til August. So, I only have 9 months to wait....

Yes Mary. I second what PJ says about getting better and over all the medical problems once and for all.

Paula, it is so cold here right now. The natives are "loving the cold weather." I told em I grew up in NE TN and had enough cold weather to do me a long while. It stays hot here so long, they really love the few days we get of this. It rained two days and today was windy and very cold.

Have my 3 month follow-up with onc as well as my routine check-up at reg doc on Monday. I think I get to switch to six months after this at oncs. Going out with friends tomorrow after work. I have another friend coming to visit Tuesday and family coming over on Turkey day...so a fun busy week I guess. Also going to clean house. boo hiss.

Nancylee, hope you are home soon... stay warm everybody

Hey Girls, Good luck with you Dr. apt. Janie. Hope everyone stays warm. I saw Onky and he does tumor markers. My CA 15-3 is elevated. He will check in 3 months so hope it goes back down. I noticed my sodium was low(I eat a lot of salt) and my CO2 was high so am wondering about my heart. I did get my sono on Thyroid because I have everything sent to Onky(I just asked for copies of all my latest papers) and I do have a nodule in left side but is small and thyroid is normal size (again). I had a chest e-ray so that is an all clear on cancer going to lungs I think. High CO2 can indicate lung trouble or heart. Well guess I better see about a stress test huh? I see my reg. Dr. Tues. so guess I will see if we can find out whats going on then or maybe not. Well, have lots to do tonight. You girls stay warm. Hugs, Mary

Mary, sounds like you'll be getting a head to toe workup here. Hope they find all is well. I had cardio stuff done last year (and well, they wanted me to come back just to check my high heart rate, but, hey, I'm fine). It's no fun, but I felt relieved to find out nothing's wrong. Sounds like a good idea for you, too. Hope the tumor markers are just a blip on the radar. With all you've been through lately, I'd bet stress is behind this stuff.

Hope you all have a great wk. end. I hope Nancy is doing better. I am trying to get my nerves settled down. I just hope where ever this is it is not in my lungs. I hope the blood work is just off on that. I know the tumor marker is not likely to be wrong but hopefully the other is. My stress level is really up there and I have to wait until I get symptoms? That kinda sucks. Well better get going, Later girls. Thanks for being here. Hugs, Mary

    Mary,

The waiting is the worst. Sending you big huggggggggggggs and thoughts and prayers.

You are right. It does suck to wait for symptoms. That is like when they told me to wait and see if chemo zapped the nodules in my lungs -- if it did, it was probably cancer. If not, probably not. Thankfully they stayed the same. Hope you get the same good news.

After thinking about it, I think we were thinking about two different email messages and I talked about a different one than you did....oh well...you know I am senile.....at least I am when it is convenient to say so.

    Hang in there,

Mary, my onc doesn't do tumor markers because he considers them unreliable. Hoping he's right in your case. So what's left on your medical agenda? When do you find out about the throat thing, finally?

BEAUTIFUL outside here today. Going to see a play at Nathan's school tomorrow, then he's in a Thanksgiving show on Monday. It's a mommy week.

Janie, hope your week off is great. Mary, dammit, get BETTER! We're here to lean on. Will hubby be home soon? Wasn't he on his way down here?

Nancy, if you're out there lurking, hope you're better, too.

Hi Girls, I think I am doing better. I got into Johns Hopkins site and it said tumor markers can be unreialble unless they go up gradually and stay. Mine was 29 3 months ago and 34 now but I think stress may have something to do with it. I can fight it anywhere but I don't want it in my lungs or brain. If I can find out the mass in my neck is gone I will feel better and if my lyrnex is o.k. because of the grumbly voice off and on. The Dr. reduced my thyroid med. so that should help the jittery nerveous feeling. I see my M.D. Tue. so we should get some things going. She is so busy and not in a lot(health issues) so I can get in about once in 2 months. I need to see about another Dr. but I would have to go to Springfield and thats 30 miles away. All Drs. are probably just as busy. By the time you get in you are no longer sick. Hey Janie I understand , my brain ran away long ago. I liked both of them. P.J. those plays are so much fun. The kids are so scared in front of everyone and they are just adorable. You always have the one kid that is a natural actor, ya know? Those are the good days. The temps. are going to get up to the high 40's low 50's here!!! Great!!!!! Hubby got switched and went to La. He feels bad because he is not here but what can he do? I had 3 grandkids lastnight. We went to see Santa Clause 3 and came home and had pizza and made ornaments out of pine cones. Well they are up so better go. Thanks girls for being here. Big Hugs, Mary

Mary, has anyone check into "silent reflux"? It's like GERD but without the hearburn. I saw someone on the Moving Beyond board that had it and it sounded like similar symptoms. Here's something from google on the symptoms

    Hoarseness
    A "lump" in the throat
    Trouble swallowing
    Chronic cough
    Too much throat mucus
    Heartburn

Just got me wondering about your symptoms....

    Hey ladies,

Mary, maybe you will know something soon, at least about part of it. I have heard the tumor markers are not reliable.

Nancy, hope you get home for Thanksgiving. Bet it is beautiful at your place.

PJ, sounds like you are on to something with Mary's symptoms. I like my doctors, but I always found out more on these boards than anywhere else because we are the ones living it. Sometimes things are too new for the oncs to know all about it yet. For example, we were all told that Herceptin does not have side effects.........NOT.

Yep Mary, there is an upside to turning 60. You're old enough for lots of people to think you are senile, forgetful, fragile, etc., so you "can be" whenever the notion strikes; however, you are still young enough not to really be any of those things.

Have my routine onc appointment and routine regular doc appointment both tomorrow, because I am stupid enough to schedule them during my break......maybe I am losing it after all.

Have a great week everyone (I sound like Tiny Tim)

Well, Janie, at least you'll get it all over with in one shot. It'll be a breeze.

Mary, hope the Mylanta makes a difference. And I hope they nail down some answers tomorrow. I mean, come on, the holidays are coming. You need to get that whole swallowing thing behind you, right? It's time to EAT!

Yes, everything checked out fine as expected. I asked the onc about the lung nodules because they said they would check them again, and that was a while back. He is setting up a CT scan. Mayo staff thought they were something else like granulomatosis. If you look that up, it is not all that great a thing to have either. However, they have not bothered me, other than I am prone to take pneumonia, but have no idea if that is relative to the nodules. There are many and they are miniscule, but chemo did not change them so they think is is something else. How did I start rambling about this?

Nancy, hope you are much better fast.........sending hugs, thoughts and prayers your way.

    Did somebody mention food?

Mary and Nancy, Are you going to be able to enjoy Turkey Day? I hope you both feel better and eat a truckload of delicious food.

PJ, Do Texans do anything Texanish for Thanksgiving besides the traditional? Like cook the turkey outside on the BBQ? Maybe I used to watch too much Dallas.

My crew is coming over here tomorrow. The boys went by to see my Dad last night and told him they would be coming here and would pick him up on the way. He asked if my Mom were coming? I don't know where he thought she was, or why he thought she was not with him, or even if he thought that much at all. Shortly after her death, he kept forgetting she died. That has been one of the worst parts of his Alzheimers.

TN men play BB tonight. Just know you all will want to tune that in.

Hey ya'll, have a great Turkey day from an ol Turkey. I have been round my sister in law, she lived in Georgia many years before moving back home a few years ago and still has the talk. Her bar is called Johnny Bob's, her hubby is John and she added her southern "Bob" to it. Every mans name she adds a Bob to it. (this is hubby's sister). She cooks very southern but MIL always did too. Theres some good eatin. I have the turkey cooking, got up at 5 and got it in the cooker. The weather has been beautiful, in the 50's and today it may break 60. Hubby made it home yesterday and leaves early tomorrow a.m. and I am heading up to Springfield early tomorrow to save $40.00 on an MP3 player for grandson. I also want to get a flat screen T.V. for my dinning room where I always watch t.v. They have them for just over $100.00 but getting there early enough is the trick. I need to be at Wally for the T.V. and Best Buy for the MP3. This should be interesting. I am better, Dr. thinks nerves may be my problem. Loosing 2 friends(from mets) and MIL and my blood work may be a little much. I have a little pill to take the edge off but haven't taken any yet. I am better. I sure hope Nancy is getting better. Eat all you want today and then some. Glad we are spending a Great day with our families. I am very glad I have such good friends here. Hugs, Mary

I'm very thankful for all of you. This is our third together! And we'll have many more.

Mary, I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. Goodness, with everything going on around you and your already busy life, no wonder you're stressed. Take a pill, take a chill.

Mary, It is just a little after 7 a.m. and you have probably been out shopping for a while already. Hope you got your items without too much stress. I don't like to shop anyway, and avoid Christmas rushes when I can......probably should take advantage of them...could have used one of those TV's you spoke of.......my big one tore up and I have been lax in replacing it. Have no idea what I want with so many to choose from these days. Every time my kids are over, they remind me I need to replace it. I took a little one in there for the time being and you can hardly see it, especially the ballgames.

PJ, sounds like you had an enjoyable day yesterday. I did but I woke up with the ol back etc. bothering me after being on my feet on day slinging hash. Guess I will take some Tylenol.

Yes PJ, I am also greatful we found one another. Made a big difference in our battle against the beast, and in just enjoying life. Have a great Friday girls.

Good Mornin Girls, Well I saw a pair of tennis shoes a couple years ago my niece had and they were soooo cute. They are old cloth high top basketball shoes, the kind we remember and they had feathery pink trim sewn around the top(black shoes)and ribbons for laces. Now with tights and a skirt they are adorable on a little girl and I had to make a pair for my grandaughter. Now her mom told me a size 2, I now have to cut all the feathery crap off and replace the laces I forgot where I put and take them back to Springfield and get a smaller size and resew them all over again. It wasn't fun the first time and my bruised sore thumb from the needle jabbing into it on the dull end can attest to that. Yea, they make a thimble but why get one and make it less painfull and I probably would never use it again, hubby's cheapness is rubbing off. Now thats a scary thought. Well, I will make a shoe exchange run and I can eat someplace good too maybe. I use to never go to a restaurant alone but now, if I don't, I don't eat. Maybe I will take the grandaughhter and make it really easy, the only thing is I then have the 4 year old wanting to go and he is really good but it will be very crowded to hang onto 2 kids. Maybe I will live on the edge today. Maybe not.....I will let ya know if I survive. Ya know, I find myself spelling words completely incorrect sometimes or more but I don't proof read a lot and I see them later and there can be 30 words and the misspelled one jumps right out and I look at it and think What the h%*# was going on in my brain? The letters don't even belong in the word. I have lost most or all of my brains apparently. Chemotized fried brains....maybe I never had them in the first place I was just too ignorant to know. They say you are always the last to know.hugs, Mary

Mary, I still interchange words...words that don't even fit...and also lose words....or names....I think chemo brain has taken up residence in my head. Living alone and also sometimes traveling alone, I eat by myself in restaurants a lot. Doesn't bother me. They say that is a sign of self-actualization when you are comfortable with yourself in public. Once I was staying on Tybee Island for a convention 15 minutes away in Savannah. I went to a seafood place next to the motel. The waitress says "One?" I said yes. Then she asked if it were a to-go order and I said no I would be dining in. Well, I was fine with that until she carried on and on about my being by myself and ended up bringing me a plate of hushpuppies before my meal came....just because she felt sorry for me. Like I said, I was fine and had to console her.

Hey everybody else, hope you are well and happy!

    Hi girls,

Eat alone? Sounds great to me!

Pretty dull weekend. But it's hard to beat 4 days off in a row. Did a little shopping, a little cleaning, a little baking, a little Xmas decorating. Poor Nathan was bored out of his skull. But that's a thing he's just got to get used to. Husband has been in bed sick for 3 days, so pretty much like being a single mother. That's a lot of work!

Hope you guys have a great week ahead. Janie, how are you feeling? And you, Mary? Getting any relaxing in?

Still hoping we'll hear from Nancy Lee soon....

Hey girls, I survived. The coowds weren't bad at all and the kids were great. The 4 year old walked his little legs off. We saw Santa and got a pic., rode the train (in the mall) and hit Toys R Us for a little surprise. We ate at Steak n Shake. I thank my lucky stars my grandkids are good and can be taken anywhere and they behave great. I couldn't handle hypper unminding kids. They all 4 always thank me for everything too, which I was a stickler on manners with their parents so it must of rubbed off. P.J. my grandkids were bored too, the good ol P.S.2 got a licking all wk. end. Have you seen the price of the P.S.3? What a rip off!!! Thats just not right. People were selling them on E Bay for $7000.00 and up. Well my toilet tank cracked, woke up to a wet bathroom floor. I have to go buy a new one and get someone to install it. Hubby could do that and do it right(I think). Oh well, Merry X-mas to me huh? Bet you guys never heard of someone wanting a new toilet tank from Santa. Later, Mary

PJ, I feel good. Thanks. This is the first year I have been able to cook and entertain on Thanksgiving to the extent I did for what seems like forever so long a time. I feel like I am gradually getting my life back.

Hey Mary, I always go for the practical gifts too. If a toilet seat is what you need, then toilet seat it should be. One woman's toilet seat is another woman's necklace.

Also love Steak and Shake and those little crunchy fries (and I am picky about fries -- not picky about much in the way of food, but am picky about my fries). PJ, you are definitely younger than me. When I was a kid, none of the chains had even arrived yet. I was a young adult when McDonald's and Shoney's came on the scene. Before that, there was maybe one restaurant in town and a couple of local drive-ins, and the only time we ate out was on vacation while traveling. Times have changed!!!!

Yes, Nancylee, if you are out there, give us a holler.
