Stage iv Moms of All Ages
I'm wishing all moms here in this section Happy Mother's Day.
Since being diagnosed stage iv, I have experienced the roller coaster of emotions, fear, upset, frustration, anger, depression, unfairness. I embrace the emotions and do my best to live a good and simple life. One thing I don't do very often is cry.
The past few weeks dh and I have welcomed the nice weather with a flurry of spring activities, home projects sending us to the do it yourself stores. I love seeing the way these places celebrate the season, enticing shoppers in with all manner of lawn and garden supplies bursting out into the open air lots, and the bustle of activity that ensues.
Today as I pulled into Lowes, seeing the sight of all the new racks and racks of flowers and a myriad of hanging baskets, I started crying. I sat in my car a few minutes overwhelmed by how I felt. I'm just so damn grateful to be celebrating another Mother's Day, to soak in all the goodwill that surrounds the day set aside to honor all mothers everywhere.
Wishing Happy Mother's Day to all

Thank you for your beautiful post, DMM. You always bring such warmth and wisdom for us. When I was diagnosed last year, I wondered if I would make it to Christmas. Well, here it is May 5, and I feel pretty darn good. I am joyful to be here to celebrate spring and Mothers' Day again this year. I appreciate them more than ever.
Happy Mothers' Day, everyone. Enjoy the day.
Celebrate life.

Happy mother's day to moms of all ages and types!
To others in a similar situation to me, mother's do not have to have given birth to be considered a maternal figure. While being a young stage 4 patient has taken away my chance to have children of my own, I am able to participate in raising my one year old nephew and serve as an "aunt" to many of my friends children. I know I will not (and most likely never will) be a recipient of a "traditional" mother's day breakfast or celebration, but I am okay in the knowledge that I am helping to guide the next generation.
-
Becs, There are many people in your situation who still have maternal roles, just as you do. You are playing a key role in the lives of those children. That is important, and I have no doubt that you are appreciated by the children and their parents. The children will eventually be old enough to recognize all the love and attention, guidance and concern that you show them. Love is love, regardless of biological connections. Happy Mother's Day to you.

Happy Mother's Day, Divine, and everyone else. Holidays and other milestones can be a bit bittersweet when we're living with mbc, but I'm personally thankful for the increased awareness of life's celebrations.
Becs, your perspective is wonderful. A dear aunt can be a very precious part of a child's life.
And if you're having a hard time with Mother's Day this year for any reason, here's a wonderful article by a FB friend that might make you not feel alone. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/uzma-yunus/can-i-ski...

Thanks mrs.! You truly are Divine! Kandy, I agree my 3 kids are my greatest blessing along with my very DH. Anne, yes it does catch us all at times.......Deanna, That article is how we all must feel sometimes

Happy mother's day to my fellow moms, favorite aunties, fur mommies, and caring maternal figures.
Mother's day has been tough for me since my own mother died. I'll be enjoying the day this year more than I have in quite a while.
I truly believe that my greatest accomplishment is adding to my family tree. My daughter fills my heart.

Beautifully said and I can relate to every word, sadly. I'm coming up on 3 years since my diagnosis of my recurrence and I am grateful for every single minute I'm alive! Happy Mother's Day to all of the Mom's and their mom's for those who still have their mothers

A couple of years ago I had a mother's day meltdown. I had just finished up attending the murder trial for a good friend of mine.
A few other emotional events occurred that spring.
Anyhow, mothers day arrived. My husband picked me up a rain coat (columbia casual) and had it sitting on the kitchen table in a bag, by boys maybe 12 or 13 at the time, did nothing... Heck, all I need is a cute card.
So....I started feeling sorry for myself. Ended up leaving the house and taking the dogs for a long walk crying. I think it was a lot to do with my friend, who won't get anymore mother days...and me thinking how many do I have left.
ANYHOOOoooo
Happy Mother's Day. I try not to make a big deal , but it is just nice to know we are appreciated for all that we do.

Fitz, I think we all get that day occasionally when we feel like no one appreciates us at all. Let alone understands us! I had a birthday one year when my kids were around that age that NO ONE remembered it was my birthday until a week later!!!! Man, I was appalled. I didn't melt down just sulked for a day or two.

Wishing all of you a happy, painfree, and relaxing Mother's Day.

yes. Mine is 16 and I hope to see her graduate from highschool and college and beyond even though I know that might be too much to hope for

Every infusion, every surgery, every pill ingested, every injection, every scan is worth it if it means more time with these two. My purpose has never been as clear as it has become this year. Happy Mother's Day to my fellow MBC friends. I'm grateful to each of you for your wisdom, nurturing, and support. And in that way thanks to all of you to the "mothering" you've provided to me, whether you have your own children or not, and regardless of age.

Bluefrog, such a terrific photo of your children.
Becs, I have a sister who chose not to have kids; her and her husband are so wonderful to all their nieces and nephews and add so much to their lives. I remember when my son graduated from 8th grade, he won a whole bunch of awards. Sister and her husband were so impressed, and I said, you two help me in raising him, his accomplishments are in part because of your influence. I most definitely believe the expression "it takes a village to raise a child".
Happy Mother's Day to everyone.

BlueFrog, beautiful kiddos.
