Carboplatin Info Please!

Hi all! I'm asking for a friend who is being told she should do 3 rounds of carboplatin for uterine cancer. She isn't in good overall health. She has lynch syndrome and bad arthritis. How bad are the side effects? Are they manageable? Thanks in advance for any information!

I have been on Carbo (along with Gemzar and Herceptin) since August, 2015. I get it every 3 weeks and so far the only side effects that I have experienced are some fatigue (but nothing that has kept me from living my life) and low platelets. It has helped keep me stable from the neck down and has been very tolerable. Also, there has been no associated hair loss with it.
I wish her the best of luck on it!

Hi kayrnic,
Here is the main Breastcancer.org site's page on Carboplatin, which lists common side effects with the drug, with links to tips to help manage them. Hope this helps!

I'm postmenopausal and in overall good health, other than the BC, and weathered chemo pretty well, so I can't say how your friend with do with her other health issues, but here was my experience. I had Carbo along with Taxotere, Herceptin and Perjeta. My worst side effects were hair loss, nail problems and neuropathy, but I do believe that can all be attributed more to the Taxotere than Carboplatin. My hair has come back, albeit gray, but it did return. I had bouts of diarrhea and some nausea, and Carbo or Perjeta could have contributed to that as well, but it wasn't anything I couldn't manage with meds. I'm still on Herceptin and I don't have any SEs from it, so I know it didn't contribute. I wish your friend the best, peace and few SEs!

I wonder if the dose is higher for uterine cancer than HER2+ MBC? I have no direct experience, but a friend had carbo along with Herceptin & Perjeta (no Taxol). Fatigue, general malaise. After many months on it she had neuropathy. Lost about half her hair.
Can't remember if she had a lot of nausea. The cancer was causing a lot of problems in the early going so some of her symptoms were due to the cancer itself.
