Book Selection: A Man Called Ove
I posted a few weeks ago about doing an online book club: This month's selection A Man Called Ove by Fredick Backman
Meet Ove. He's a curmudgeon—the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his bedroom window. He has staunch principles, strict routines, and a short fuse. People call him "the bitter neighbor from hell." But must Ove be bitter just because he doesn't walk around with a smile plastered to his face all the time?
Behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness. So when one November morning a chatty young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove's mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul. All of which will change one cranky old man and a local residents' association to their very foundations.
Can you finish it by the end of the Month?

Definitely!
Thanks for starting this!

If it is on Kindle, I'm in! Finishing up a murder mystery right now. Actually pretty scared of my own shadow but love murder and mayhem. Then I throw in a love story or two just to even it out. I read daily. Because let's just say those imaginary SEs that don't happen with H&P (lol) bother me daily.

I've just put a request for it in at my library. I'm 15th on a list for 6 copies, but hopefully I can get it and read it by the deadline. Thanks for setting this up!
-
Just ordered it, I can start reading on Sunday,
-
Fitz, I'm wondering since half of April is already gone if we should make the finish date a little further out. The people that are trying to get it from a library might have trouble getting it in time. At my library there were 24 waiting for it and only 4 copies. I ordered mine but it is just a thought.

I agree with Kandy. Since I've turned into a slow reader since my crainontomy, I just sucked it up and brought it from iTunes, but if I had waited for it from the library, I would've been waiting a long time. Guess it's a popular book
-
I just bought it from the local book store. -
I wil try and get it this weekend!
-
Just finished the book. I really enjoyed it. Anyone else
-
ah, Kandy..... Are you an over-achiever? I am teasing you. I will get the book ASAP. Hopefully I can keep up.
-
I finished, not my favorite
-
I tried reading it and gave up 2/3rds of the way through. Don't want to spoil it for anyone else but will say more once we're in the book discussion phase.

Holeinone,
Lol, I sorta am an overachiever. More like I would say I am very compulsive.
-
I have finished the book and enjoyed it.

just purchased and it's a wet long weekend here in New Zealand so hope to get a good start on it
-
Just arrived in the mail. Should be finished by the end of weekend. Looking forward to discussion.
-
I finally got the book. Excited to be part of the group. Now, put chemo brain on the back burner & read.
-
Sure we can push it back a week. (how many more are waiting for the book?)
I am surprised Beatmom, that you didn't like it. But we can discuss it later.
Next week I can put up some questions about the book.
THANK You all who participated
-
I'm still waiting -- #11 on 7 copies at my library. I'll just sit this one out and try to participate on the next book.
-
I hope to fininsh this weekend -
Maybe while we are waiting for others to finish, maybe we could pick out the next book so those that are getting it from a library will have more time to get it.
-
I just found this thread and would love to join.....I read non stop and can recommend lots of non cancer related books. I'll wait until the second round, though......but will look forward to seeing the discussion on the first book. Book Club is a great idea!
