Talked to an onc. today. She says it is OK to take one pill in the morning and then at night, to switch the hours.

She said the other way (to take one in the morning and then wait a day and a half) was OK too, but she prefers the first option.

    i'm going to start today.

    Let's see if something moves.

Joining in---Have been taking Tamox for 2.5 yrs (1/2 way there, yah...)  I've always taken the pill b4 bedtime along with Effexor.  I've gained 15 lbs since starting Tamox.  I do work out 4-5 x/wk, but I'm not always good about "clean eating" I honestly think my weight gain is caused by low estrogen (due to Tamoxifen) as well as my not so good diet.  If I can stop eating refined sugars and a few other little tweeks ;) I think I'll lose some weight.

My hotflashes have reduced some in the last 3 months...not sure why.

    Good luck to all...

Take at night since 10/10.  Hardly any SE's.

Lost about 5 lbs, changed eating habits and started to exercise.

    Good luck everyone

    On for a year.

Take at lunch or dinner time (have to take with food, or it makes me queasy)

Lost 25 pounds in the first 6 months (using a hypnosis CD), now have been at same weight for the last 6 months, even though I still use the CD daily.

Forgive me for not reading all the posts in this thread - just wanted to add my info to the poll, FWIW.

I take it in the morning, and have maintained my normal weight.  I've been taking Tamoxifen for 8 months.

Taken in the morning for a little over two weeks.  No change in weight.

Starting to make an actual effort through Weight Watchers/Exercising to lose these last 10+ pounds before my exchange surgery in 2 months.  Just started Monday.... we'll see how it goes!!! Kiss

I took one pill in the morning and one at night for a little more than two years. Weight gain was a problem; then it sort of leveled off. Try as I might, losing weight was almost impossible. Nothing has changed now that I'm on arimidex.

I start tamox in a month.  I'm anxious about it.  I'll check in with the weight gain/loss time thing later, but maintaining weight is a battle in my life.  I started the Core Balance Diet, by Marcelle Picked a couple of months ago.  I dropped weight fast and ate a lot.  It's an awesome book...balancing mind body spirit kind of thing, and it takes all the preservatives out of your diet.  It's much more healthy living choice than a fad diet.  I'll let you  know how I do on it with Tamox and this diet.

Have been taking it since Sept. 2010

    Take it in the morning.

Steady weight loss (and I was thin to begin with) which in the month of February seems to have leveled off (haven't lost anything this month).  Total weight loss has been about 15 lbs.  To be honest, the weight loss was scaring me.

    I tried switching to evenings.

No change at all. I did reach a new low 2 weeks ago but gained it by now and maintaining it.

I'm exercising a lot (by my standards), my body looks toned but I can't loose the weight.

    It is really frustrating!!!!!!!

    1. Taking it at night time around bedtime.

I started the Tamoxifen approximately around March 2010 and am taking 20mg.

    2. Keeping my weight (though sometimes I go up and down 2 pounds), otherwise most of the time am staying the same weight.  Though one funny thing is my appetite has decreased considerably and I seem to have lost quite a bit of inches in the area of my face, chest and stomach without losing allot of weight.

Linn, I want that hypnosis cd!!

I have been on tamox 2.5 years. Take it at night.  Gained about 10-12 pounds gradually over the first 6 months.  It tapered off but I cannot lose any weight.  I eat well and exercise daily.  I blame low estrogen too!

Been on Tamox for 3 weeks.  I take it in the morning and have not had any weight gain - diet is the same, fairly healthy with junk food in moderation.  Had a lot of warm flashes when I started, but these have stopped.  Fatigue has passed, too.

I take it at night - I was off about 5 months and then went back on- have gained a few pounds but my life is really stressful and I haven't been going to the gym and my habits are erratic - mostly bad. I think my hot flashes were worse when I didn't take it- EllieUndecided

I thought I would follow up. I am 59. I finished my 5 years of Tamoxifen a year ago in March. The side effects I experienced at first I adapted to. It took a few months on Tamoxifen  before I felt more or less normal. Hot flashes were almost constant at first, but I got used to them. Some problems with word choice or language memory persisted. Nothing critical, if I wrote for a living it might have been worse. Nothing that extra thought or proofreading could not solve. Though frustrating if in the middle of a conversation, and I could not find the right word. I felt like I could not trust my memory, but I was having problems with that before Tamoxifen. My neurologist tested me extensively, and said the cancer was probably to blame. The other side effect was that overnight, my skin became ("old"). It never felt dry, but looked crepey. I had to wash my hair less often, as it got too dry.

Over the course of treatment the hot flashes faded. I went through menopause in the first few months, I feel that Tamoxifen definitely accelerated this.

I lost 24 lbs in the first 6 months. I thought Tamoxifen might have played a role, but at the time I gave equal credit to going on a mild diet, cutting out candy, etc., and listening to weight loss hypnosis CDs. I kept the weight off during the whole course of Tamoxifen. I patted myself on the back.

Fast forward to 2016. I have regained the weight! It took almost a year for it to climb back on, but I am now at the exact same weight as when I started. I started listening to the weight loss CDs again, but they are having no effect. However, I am not consistent, so I can blame that as well.

The problems with word choice and language have entirely disappeared. A few months after I ended Tamoxifen, I began to feel sharper.  I didn't have to constantly write notes. I could trust my memory again. My skin has more natural oils again. My wrinkles didn't go away. But the crepey look on my arms has gone, and I have to wash my hair more often. There is life after Tamoxifen!
