Anybody want to meet for lunch (or tea/coffee) this Thursday 17th near 75/Campbell or I could also meet somewhere near Firewheel mall.

For local meet ups/info/communcating, would anybody be interested in joining a dallas BC specific facebook group? Or even a TEXAS BC specific Facebook? I have family in Houston and near Austin, so I travel ever so often around the state ;)

I work at 75 and Renner. But hard to get away at lunchtime most days (plus I dont think an hour would do it for us, do you? lol). I can meet any weekend day. I live in Rowlett so Firewheel is awesome too.

Wanted to pass this along. I met Dr. Nguyen for a consult and he's excellent. I hope you never need him but this is a great opportunity for Q&A on LE next Tuesday night. Hope to possibly meet some of my BCO friends.

Hope all in Dallas are doing ok & staying warm today! This is my first winter since my BMX and I am feeling more sticky pains etc with the onset of the cold weather.

My insurance is currently with BCBSTX and they and Texas Health Resources and UTSW (where my MS etc all are) are battling over reimbursement rate for 20167 so as of now the doctors and hospitals under this group will be out of network as of 1/1/17. Just found this out Tuesday. I have my 6 month (and one year) check-up in January which I will keep and pay for office visit myself if necessary but if not resolved will likely need to find a BS and MO associated with Baylor or Medical City. Any recent recommendations?

Wishing all a wonderful holiday season!

    Thanks.

PS - also wanted to post this article in yesterday's Dallas News about former mayor Laura Miller who was diagnosed with a recurrence. Fighting breast cancer again, Laura Miller has some epiphanies and regrets.

Hi Balthus - It's nice to hear from you. I too am dealing with my first post surgery winter. I have been so sluggish since my exchange surgery at the end of September- trying to lose the 8lbs I gained and get motivated to exercise on these cold dark mornings. I am also being treated by UTSW in Dallas - I am insured by Horizon BCBS out of New Jersey (where my parent company is located). How did you find out that they will be out of network in 2017? Did your insurance company notify you or did the medical facility? I am having a outpatient surgery on 12-29 for the nipple reconstruction. (I am trying to get through as much of this reconstruction in 2016 as possible since I have met all my insurance out of pocket for year) but obviously I will have follow up and still oncology appointments in 2017. I truly don't want to change doctors at this point.

Thanks for the link to article about Laura Miller. Isn't it amazing how many women are dealing with breast cancer?

    Take care! Stay warm!

Hi Lunderwood - I go to the gym after work and on the weekends as I am a night owl and it also helps me burn off stress after work and gym is less crowded.

We were notified by BCBSTX but it was in the local news as well. Link below.

Our broker says that this is too big a deal for both parties not to resolve but BCBS dropped CVS from their pharmacy network for 2017 so who knows.

Our plan year ended 9/30/16 and started again 10/1/16 and I am on a HSA that does not have deductible carryover so luckily have not needed anything in Oct/Nov/Dec and will start up again in January.

Yes I have met or found out about many women personally and professionally who have had BC some many year sago and some recently in the past year.

November was a tough month as it was a year ago that I had my bad mammo and fell down the rabbit hole and last year the Monday before Thanksgiving had 3 biopsies after having one in early November and breast MRI's.

Monday will be my 11th month anniversary since my BMX but I am trying to not focus on "anniversaries" but is hard.

Hang in there and take care as well.

It is 30 degrees as I write this and crazy Texas wether will be 70 degrees in a few days.

Thanks for sharing this information...I had no idea. I have BCBS and had most of my surgery and care done thru Presby Rockwall. I love the hospital and this is very disappointing. I'll be honest, not too savvy about what insurance coverage means here though. If they are out of network then I suppose I cannot use this facility any longer?

Also, thanks for sharing the article about Laura Miller. I didn't know she had dealt with BC once before, and now it is back after 18 years! I enjoyed her writing and her honesty. I told dh and he said "what happened to the 5 year thing" and I told him that the 5 year thing doesn't really apply to BC patients. *sigh*

    Stay warm ya'll!

Balthus, thanks for posting the article on Laura Miller. I didn't realize that she had had breast cancer before. I didn't care for her as mayor, but I thought that the article was well written, and I wish her the best! We have the same MO (Dr. O'Shaughnessy), so maybe I'll run into her over at Baylor. :)

I'm sorry for everyone dealing with health insurance issues. When I get frustrated with Aetna, I need to remind myself that I'm lucky to have the coverage, and the amount that they've paid out this year is jaw dropping. My mom had breast cancer 12 years ago, and had really bad individual insurance through Unicare (which isn't around anymore, at least in Texas). They tried to deny just about every claim, and she spent half of her time fighting with them when she was in the throes of chemo. It was so infuriating.

Hi I am looking for a second opinion from a oncologist. I live in Irving and am right now going to Baylor and Texas oncology. I just would like to cover all bases and get another opinion as I am having really bad side effects from my hormone therapy Arimidex.

So I received a card in the mail regarding my coverage with BCBS and Texas Health. Indicated that they were working on the contract, but it's not looking good.

I called BCBS this morning and the rep I had said they had just been in a meeting and we're told this information was not true....just rumors.

I told her the mailing I had was from BCBS.....so she is looking into it and someone is supposed to call me back.

    Strange

I got the postcard as well but I handle benefits for my company and we were notified by our broker a week ago and I spoke to someone at BCBS last week as well who confirmed this to be correct as o now.

What contract are they working on? Baylor? I did talk to a nurse at BCBS and she said that they have not come to agreement with UTSW but she did not say anything about Baylor healthcare.

Diane, Have you considered getting a 2nd opinion within the Texas Oncology team?

Yes, I tried for a second opinion and the doctor at Texas Oncology declined. I heard they don't like you to switch doctors. I guess I will look around and try to find one on my own.
