Breast Cancer Index no Tamoxifen

I just finished up 33 treatments of radiation a week ago. I went to see my MO for a post radiation check up. He asked me how I felt about Tamoxifen. I said I was scared to take it. He said he could send my tumor for a breast index test to see if I even need to take it at all.

I guess there was a study in Stockhome that tested women using the Breast cancer index to see the benefit in first 5 years. The test is usually used to check continued use after 5 years.

My MO is John Link with Breastlink. He is well know and presents at conferences and has written some books. He is also forward thinker.

My issues are I'm only 38, I did not have chemo and everybody said a body scan was not nessary.

Would I be crazy to not take Tamoxifen?

My personal decision was to try it and see how it affected me. I have minimal side effects. The only probable issue is that I have a fibroid that is getting bigger so we'll see if that pushes me into a hysterectomy. But any other effects that I would attribute to Tamoxifen are, for me, for now, totally manageable. Maybe memory lapses (like an occasional difficulty recalling a name or word), some joint irritation (but I'm getting older so who knows if that's connected), mild night sweating. My biggest fear was vaginal atrophy and as of now (6 months) no problems with sexual function.

It's a big decision, it took me a month to get up the courage to start so I definitely feel your trepidation.
