I loved "Watchers" by Dean Koontz too. Very old, but so good. Right now I am reading "The Road". It is dark, but soooo good. I like Nelson DeMille and anything by Paul Theroux.

I like mysteries and I thought "The Alibi" by Sandra Brown was excellent. I also read Chill Factor by her and a couple others - they were good but Alibi was by far the best.

I just got done reading Stephen King's new book, "Lisey's Song. It was a little sad, but I liked it. King has gotten more into a fantasy type book this time, which I liked.

I just made a huge Amazon order, so I have good books coming I have found that since chemo it takes me longer to get a book finished. I read slower and fall asleep SO easy when I'm trying to read.

So, what has everyone else been reading?

I just finished Marley & Me. What a great read! It made me laugh, and cry, and believe it or not, it made me want to get a puppy!

Just finished Grisham's new "The Innocent Man". His first non-fiction and very thought provoking (deals with the death penalty and overzealous law enforcement),
Skinny Dip is a wonderful, fun read. The husbands pushes her off a cruise ship but she survives and "haunts" him. Great characters and laughs.

I just ordered "Cross" by James Patterson and "Nature Girl" by Carl Hiaasen to take on vacation with me in a couple of weeks. Now the trick will be NOT reading them before I go. I am so bad about that. I will get a book to read on a trip, and then I pick it up "Just to look at the first page or so"...pretty soon it is 1:00 in the morning and the book is finished! LOL...maybe I'll have hubby hide them for me

I'm about to start "Lisey's Story". The last book I finished was Vince Flynn's latest...but, I gave it to my dad, and can't think of the title!

I'm reading Motherless Brooklyn, an unusual detective story, told from the perspective of someone with Tourette's Syndrome. When I finish it, I'll be starting Case Histories, recommended by a friend, don't know anything about it yet.

I'm reading Crossroads of Twilight, Book 10 of Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series. This series is of the fantasy fiction type, sort of like The Lord of the Rings genre. The series has incredibly strong and important female characters. I quit reading the series a while ago, because after the first five or six books it got a little boring, but I've decided to pick them up again.

Just finished Christine Feehan's Night Game...fantasy, romance, action...keeps my brain engaged! I'm trying to read Charles Frazier's new one...loved Cold Mountain, but I can't keep my brain involved long enough to really get into it. Maybe after the holidays!

I have reread all of my Patricia Cornwell Kay Scarpetta series and the "Prey" books by John Sanford.

I then read "Anybody out There" by Marian Keyes.

Deb C. - I asked for Nature Girl and Cross for Christmas! For those who like Carl Hiaasen - Sick Puppy is great - hilarious.

    Hi All,

I see a few folks are reading Lisey's Story. I am a little over half way through it and may not be able to finish it. I just want to warn the folks on this thread that there is a scene that involves the mutilation of a breast. I am particulary sensitive about this right now and I don't think I can go on. Don't read this book if you think you can't handle this.

    Thanks

I just finished “The Memory Keeper's Daughter” by Kim Edwards. What an awesome book. It was kind of melancholy, but I loved it. I am finely to a place where I can read a book that has some sadness in it without getting swallowed up and getting weepy.

I also read “Cross" by James Patterson and "Nature Girl" by Carl Hiaasen. Both were OK, and if you read either author, worth reading. They were just not the best work either of them has done.

I am looking for new stuff to read….anybody read something great lately???

Are you also a Feehan fan? I have every one of her novels in all of the different genres. My husband and I particularly like her Carpathian series. Also, he got me hooked on J.D. Robb, Nora Roberts alias, who writes futuristic detective series. I am also reading a new one from Sarah Strohmeyer's "Buubbles" series. It is such a good escape and keeps me busy during doctor's visits!

I listen to audio books during my commute to work. I just finished "No Shortcuts to the Top: Climbing the World’s 14 Highest Peaks” by Ed Viesturs - the first American to achieve such a goal without the aid of bottled oxygen. I like nonfiction books and this one was pretty good.

Just before that I listened to Beach Road by James Patterson. It was fabulous!

I am now listening to The Davinci Code because I must be the only person in America that has not read the book or seen the movie.

Hmmm...I just got Lisey's Story and now I'm not sure about it. Guess I'll give it a try and see how I feel. Just finished Forever Odd...Dean Koontz. It was so so, I like the character Odd but the story was a bit "out there" for me.

Ah jeeez, reading .........one of my very favorite things to do. I just finished Deborah Smith's latest "The Crossroads Cafe". It was excellent.

I've also read the latest Sarah Strohmeyer "Bubbles" book while recuperating from my mastectomy. She's really taking that story line into a rather far-fetched plot. It is light hearted and fun but I'm not sure about being too believable.

Because I have a part-time job as a bookseller, I've had the opportunity to read an advance copy of the new Susan Elizabeth Phillips book "Natural Born Charmer" due out in about a month. Another excellent book by Phillips who is one of my very favorite authors.

Now I'm waiting for a new book from Jennifer Crusie or Janet Evanovich. I like the escapist stories. As a nurse in long term care, my daily life reveals enough sad stories. I like to forget about them when I read.

Unless I'm reading a good biography. I like to read of others' lives, especially the overcoming parts of their lives.

My Life in France by Julia Child. It's really great and in the first person. I always thought of her as such a down to earth gal.
Just finished Dust to Dust by Tammy Hoag. Really good.
Waiting for a new Step. Plum by Janet Evonavich, love those books for great laughs.
Was given the new Greg Isles book for Christmas along with Suite Francise by Irene Nemirovsky, a novel of WWII France by a Jewish woman. Supposed to be a great read.
