The Star Wars yoga sounds wonderful. And there's no way I could do hot yoga - I'd be passed out after the first minute! Also I'd be worried about triggering an LE flare. Cheryl - the young bride must have been lovely. Cubbie - you're brave to even go near an electronics store this time of year! BTW, your Cubbies are having a busy off season - they're going to be a team to keep an eye on next season!
Bluedog - welcome - we're neighbors!! Always good to see another Terp on the board!
I went out for a pre-dawn run this morning. It was beautiful weather - I couldn't believe I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt for a December run! About a mile into it I was feeling great, then suddenly I found myself face down on the sidewalk, with bloody knees, a scraped up elbow and a hand that hurt like the dickens! I'm not sure what happened, but I think I may have slipped on a slick spot, or maybe on some acorns. I'm taking it easy doing RICE on it - we'll see how it goes the next day or so. My LE is on the other side (thank goodness), but I'm using my handy-dandy gauntlet for the Compression part of RICE. So I will be taking it easy the next few days.
-
Thanks, NatsFan! (Waving hello in your in your general direction up the Pike.) I do worry about the heated yoga perhaps causing LE, but I'm not willing to give it up. Hope I don't regret that down the road. So sorry about your fall -- yes, take it easy!

Thanks all. . .my Dh is pretty special. We've been together for nearly 24 years and married most of that. I cooked Cajun for him last night. It was delicious. . .unfortunately I made the mistake of eating a bowl myself. I was up all night with a raging Lupron induced fever. More like an inferno. At least that's the best way to describe it. OMG I still feel sick and I am sooo done with the Lupron shots. I need my sleep!!! That said, I'm at the gym trying to exhaust myself into a coma tonight.
I have been looking for a beginner yoga class and have not found a local one. I may just start going to the yoga class at MO's. It's all cancer patients and they help individually. No way I could do hot yoga. . .now if anyone hears of a polar yoga class, I'm in.
Nats. . .sorry about your fall. Hope you heal quickly.

Welcome blue dog, I love this thread. It gives me motivation! However, with the holidays near, I admit, I have been slacking. I WILL put more effort into making exercise a priority. I can always think of something to do before I do intentional exercise.
Today, I got measured for a lymphadema sleeve. I do not have lymphadema, but it has been recommended to have one for long plane rides. My son and family are moving yo Hawaii and Inwpuld feel more comfortable wearing one on the plane. I hope to vsit at least twice a year. The PT I saw has been a Lymphodema PT for 30 years. I learned a lot from her in just an hour.

When I don't get a walk in during "lunch" at work, I struggle to get my 15K steps in. I've been battling a cold and sinus stuff since Thursday, so I've been having to push myself to walk. Tomorrow winter is back...3 to 6 inches of snow predicted for Denver. Many in my neighborhood have forgotten that the law says sidewalks must be shoveled within 24 hours after snow stops....the hard part is the the area where the sun doesn't shine as if they don't shovel the snow turns to ice and wrecks havoc for walking.....
Still have a sinus headache after 4 ibuprofen...waiting for the dryer to be done, then going to bed after the news, by 10:30 which is early for me. Will catch up tomorrow, hopefully!!
-
Nats, yep, the Cubs are looking to get serious about this next year.
Got my 45 minutes of walking in tonight.
-
Jumped on the elliptical bike a few times today. Touched my toes and raised my arms in the air 20 times. Put my arms over my head about 10 times while saying FAT loudly. Did some laundry. Reading about interval training on the elliptical bike to burn lots of calories and fat. Interval training, yes, I can do this, no problem. Short, very intense spurts are my style, and they won't wear down my knee joints. Am going to do some leg lifts, then go to bed. Felt much better than before after two intense 30 second intervals on the bike. Still having hot flashes. I have to save my own life.
-
Snow day in Denver today...Denver has about 8 inches of snow so far at 7:30 this morning with snow continuing this morning. I want to walk, and driveway needs shoveling. Will wait a couple hours. The mall isn't that far (only 2 - 3 miles) but I don't want to venture out onto the lousy roads, so I might just have to walk around the house. Still battling this miserable cold. Might be tough to get my steps in today.
-
Ohhhh, how I do not miss snow and ice! I think snow is pretty when it first comes down, but, then, I am ready for Florida again!
Today, made myself get out early for my walk.....did 3 miles, with a little jogging......mind you, a little!
Then, took a shower and went to my last PT session.
-
So, girls, I think that the pounds are coming off without the T and the antidepressants. I have to lose this weight slowly. I know I am burning fat even at my modest but greatly improved level of physical activity. I am down one size in trousers and jeans! Thanks for being here and providing motivation.
I had an emotional meltdown today. I took a break from exercise but I will be back on bike tomorrow. I am going to add some walking. With arthritis in my feet, I can and should walk 45 minutes three times a week.
-
DecisionFreak, that is great news. Down a size - way to go. Taking the weight off slowly is actually the best way to go as it will tend to stay off easier so don't worry. Should you reach a plateau, don't worry, just keep going.
mysunshine, some jogging - nice! Nats, take it easy while you heal.
Good to hear from everyone. With being busy with a visiting friend and also busy with getting ready to build my exercise is spotty. Should be a little better starting next week after visitor is gone and house choices are finalized.
Night sculpted friends.
-
Way to go DecisionFreak! 70 minutes on treadmill tonight. Total of 5 miles today. Hopefully I will sleep well again tonight. Last night I skipped dinner and tonight I'm back to just protein cereal. If I eat a real meal for dinner I can't sleep. Going to ask MO next week for sleep aid until the dreaded Lupron gets out of my system. Tamox will just have to be enough.

A size down? Whoo hoo, that is awesome!
Went to my Cardio Sculpt class this morning & Barre tonight. The Colorado Snow is coming our way; a sort of freezing drizzle is coming down right now and we are supposed to get dumped on by snow tonight. DH is driving home from an out of town trip, so I hope he gets home soon, and DS is supposed to fly out tomorrow (joining you Florida guys for a little vacation) so I hope he is able to get out of here!!!

ruthbru, no doubt you know that women with a higher body weight burn more calories doing the same activity in the same amount of time than women with lower body weight. Doing 30 minutes of vigorous housework at my current weight now of 186.8, I will burn more calories than someone who weighs 150 pounds. As I lose weight it will require higher and higher levels of activity to burn the same number of calories, and it will require fewer and fewer calories to lose weight. It is amazing how it adds up. I have fought the body weight battle all of my adult life. Once, I think I lost maybe 40 pounds by doing four or five 10 minute brisk walks five days a week and reducing my caloric intake as I lost weight. Obesity and overweight were two of my areas of expertise as a writer, but knowing what to do and doing it are two different things. That is why it is beneficial to report in to other people every day. It keeps awareness for the need to change at a consistently high level, and it also makes a person aware of progress and setbacks when she has to write them down and tell other people about them. I don't beat myself up anymore if I don't always meet my goals, but I sure enjoy the idea of putting away those size 16 pants and wearing the new size 14 pants that I just bought. One pair of the new pants came today. I should get down to a size 10 or 12 in six months through reducing calories, doing daily exercises, doing housework, doing interval training on the elliptical bike three times a week for 30 minutes, walking three days a week for 45 minutes, and doing 30 minutes of yard work and gardening five times a week. I will start working in resistance training after I get these other routines going.
I had gotten up to a size 18 at 222 pounds a couple of years ago. I burned the calories and lost weight doing yard work, gardening, and picking up pecans, but I did not burn very much body fat, thus, I wore a size 16 after losing 34 pounds.
-
Even with the snow and cold, I managed to get my steps in. I shoveled the driveway and sidewalk. Then DH asked me to go for a walk...we actually went twice. In the afternoon, I walked to the grocery (10 minutes) to pick up a couple things and to get a hair cut. Tomorrow, I'm sure will be back to work, I doubt we will have another snow day. It will be COLD but no snow for a couple more days!!!
-
No snow here. As a matter of fact, it was 70 degrees so I sat outside and wrapped presents. Cold is arriving this weekend.
Walked/ran this afternoon under a Carolina Blue sky.
-
Made it to the gym for walking despite tonight's Christmas program. The track was quiet enough there, I was even able to get in some jogging.
-
mysunshine48, thanks for the welcome!
Just got back from a 3 mile dog walk in the woods near my house. The trail starts in Maryland but goes into DC. You would never know you're only about 7 miles from the White House. Yoga class later.
-
Hi, bluedog, sounds like a nice walk. Your post made me homesick. I lived in the DC area from 1989 until 2010.
-
Lots of snow. Luckily our friends with big trucks picked up the rest of us. We walked inside and had brunch at one of the ladies houses. I hope I can get out for Zumba and Yoga tonight! Contimplating making Christmas cookies this afternoon.
-
Great picture, Ruth!
Sorry about the snow. It was 65 degrees today with clear sky. It's suppose to rain tomorrow so I sat outside to soak up some sun. Ran errands then walked/ran at the park.
-
Great picture Ruth, must be cold as you're all wearing sweaters. Wonderland enjoy your sunshine. Ouch Mary, hope you are okay. I'm going to offer a word of warning about hot yoga. The girl I work with was a hot yoga fanatic until one day she had sciatica, and it got so bad that she was actually paralyzed, she woke up and couldn't move she had to telephone her DH who was in another room - the only upside was she had some nice beefy firemen carry her to the car for her trip to the hospital. Come to find out she was going so deep into her poses in the hot yoga she injured her sciatic nerve - that was two years ago and she's only just started up again but she now knows no to push too deep into the poses. A size down.....my fantasy
Monday night went to Cardio Dance Party and last night did Body Jam.

crazies, am I correct that some of you have sustained permanent damage from AI drugs? Please help me here as the doctor plans to put me on AI meds after surgery in January. I already have fibro and widespread arthritis, and I have serious problems with basic functionality
I thought most of the AI side effects were bothersome but not permanent.
The oncology nurse is telling me to chill out and get through the second surgery but I want to know what I am facing. It is far more stressful for me to be in the dark than it is to know what I am dealing with.
No question that I am stressed out, beautiful crazies. I have to find ways to cope. I may need to meditate. I am going to work on the poetry manuscript that I started many years ago when I was an MFA student in Creative Writing. I am going to clean up my yard and get my garden ready for winter.
I still want to know about long term problems from AI drugs!
-
ruthbru, you seem very well adjusted. We rarely wear heavy sweaters where I live but I bought a beautiful vanilla Aran cable knit on sale recently. Not sure when I will wear it, but I had to buy it.
I hope I reach a new normal when I am as well adjusted as you seem to be. I spend days in my pjs worrying about what is going to happen next.
You are an anchor, ruthbru. Your smile inspires and comforts me. Thank you for being here.

I did three 30 second intervals on the elliptical bike today, very intense, followed by four minute rest breaks. The goal is to work up to 30 minutes three times a week. My mother's physical therapist gave me a pile of resistance bands from yellow to black. Tonight I am going to do some exercises. I will start working with the resistance bands soon.
I don't do high protein, low carb diets. I have found if I give up most sweets and avoid processed foods that I start slimming down. Instead of a candy bar, I eat an Apple. You can get down to a smaller size by eating high fiber foods like beans and adding cooked vegetables to your diet. Cut out the high sodium deli foods. More later.
-
Decision, hi to you, too. Where do you live now?
hbcheryl, thanks for sharing that story. I will definitely keep it in mind!
-
12/16- pretty cold outside here right now, and it was hovering around freezing as I did my end of the day 30 min walk. My cheeks were cold about half way through the walk. Brrr. Will shift to the gym for exercise until this cold snap lifts.
Decision-sorry you had a meltdown, and we have all been there. You have had a lot going on, so be kind to yourself. You are doing well on weight loss, down a size! Keep the faith and keep taking good care of yourself. You can do it.
-
I am still fighting a weird week-long sickness where one day I feel fine, the next I feel sick, so I haven't gotten in a lot of exercise. I walked this evening with my son and now I feel dizzy again. I would worry except my husband had the same thing.
Decision Freak I am on the AIs and I don't think side effects are permanent although there are women who have dropped off their meds before the five years was up. I have had achiness but I had it after chemo too, plus I'm on lupron so I don't know what is related to what. I also got a trigger thumb too but that pain has passed. Exercise helps a lot. All of my symptoms have improved a lot with more exercise.
Karen we call that shovel and sculpt. So far I've only had one shoveling opportunity. I would kind of like some snow for Christmas. We had rain rain rain.
Welcome Bluedog. I love to walk the trails too, with my dog and without. As you'll see after a bit my primary exercise is walking the trails and around the lake.
-
DecisionFreak, I think there is do much negative talk about Al drugs that women expect something. I know I did. I was afraid to take that first pill. However, I did it 4 months ago, and so far, nothing that I can tell. Cucumin, a substance in Tumeric, a spice, has been a great help for many woman with arthritis. Helps with inflamation. It does not interfere with Al's or any other medicine that I know of. Look it up......may help you, but don't be afraid of Al's.
-
bluedog, I also lived near D.C. For several years- Alexandria. I would like to visit again sometime......has been 25 years!
