Hi JBug - good for you getting back into more exercise. Not easy I know. I did have a fitbit that I started using. It was a fitbit one - the little one you put in your pocket. I enjoyed it for the 3 weeks I had it until I accidentally washed and dried it. It was alive post dryer but as the night went on, it called it quits. It enjoyed the 1000 somersaults it thought I did when it was in the dryer though ha ha. It did make me think more about taking stairs and such, but I felt it wasn't really accurate regarding calorie burning. I do a lot of workout videos that incorporate strength training as well as cardio and I know I'm burning calories but it seemed to mostly register the cardio. It was a prize at work, so at least I didn't waste my own money on something I killed in 3 weeks. Someday I might get another one that's the wristband one. Which one do you have?
kk - are you off tamoxifen now? Very exciting! Keep us posted. Congrats on the half marathon.
hope everyone is well!

Hi bcisofun: I love the somersaults! Awesome!
I have the Flex. I wanted the Force but it was sold out everywhere. In the end I can see that it is not a big difference and I saved $30.
The thing that I love is seeing how many calories I burn to how many I take in. I have never tracked my food before. I have always been a sturdy muscular build and able to work off whatever I ate. Now that cancer put such a hit on my body with everything from lymphodema in my arms, a herniated disc in my back, and plantar fasciitis. Now I track even if I eat one M&M and I have a much better understanding of how much sugar and fat is in my diet. I found that on my weekdays when I eat a yogurt or steel cut oats for breakfast and my salad for lunch, that I need to eat a little less dressing and then stay on that same kind of track for dinner. I found that on my days off I need to work harder to eat better.
Then, I also have been enjoying seeing how I can work in more steps in a day. Every time I use the bathroom at work I go down the hallway and up two flights of stairs and down the hall again and another set of stairs so that I am not just sitting in front of the computer all day. I also have a desk that moves from sitting to standing to help my back, but I enjoy the fact that I am not just sitting. I know that this is not the most accurate system, but since I was not tracking anything, this will get me closer to a truthful understanding than I had. I do find that it tracks more closely if you, for example, get on the treadmill for half an hour, then add that activity in the log section and it will increase the calorie burn to the more appropriate result. It will allow you to change the intensity of the activity or the incline of the treadmill or even the calories burned that the treadmill records.
My kids are 16 and 17 now and my daughter has always eaten very poorly and discovered exercise in the last few years in a summer fitness class and found that she enjoyed it and had a lot of success. Now with the Fitbit, she is raving about how many steps a day she is getting over me. My son is on the soccer team and walks to school and wants to join track this spring. So this is a natural gift idea for him. It is fun to make it a family learning experience.

Hi ladies....sorry I haven't been on again for a few months. It's been a crazy time....
I am off Tamoxifen since November 18th, but in cycle 4 of trying and no luck yet. I need to get back on Tamoxifen after, so I don't have a lot of time. I'm going to work with my RE (fertility specialist) next month if I'm still not pregnant, so we can try to speed up the process a bit.
The hip pain continued after my half marathon and so the end of November I had an MRI which showed all sorts of "aging" problems, but also showed a tear in my labrum, which of course is why I ran the last 10 miles in pain. I took some time off from running since I had another revision surgery in December (nothing serious but had some discomfort - though the surgery caused more discomfort for a while). I was cleared to exercise again at the end of January (6 weeks), and I've since gone back to running 2-3 miles, but my hip is still not fully recovered, so I'm sticking with 2-3 miles 1-2 times a week. I'm trying to get it to 3 times a week, but work has been so busy I haven't had as much time.
I have a friend who was diagnosed with a recurrence (metastatic) in November and it's had me on edge (I already had another friend going through metastatic BC to the lungs and brain). I am noticing the pains more easily since....Given that we are trying to get pregnant, I am trying to rule out the sources of pain and will be getting a bone scan on Monday. My oncologist is not worried, but I also don't want to end up worrying through a pregnancy.
Work is extremely busy...we have a huge system implementation and I'm driving a huge part of it, so I'm not finding much time to do much else. I'm taking a day off on Monday for my bone scan and we'll sneak a movie in between the injection and the scan. Other than work, I'm enjoying time with my husband. This experience taught me that life is too short, and my dad nearly being killed last year after being hit by a car was another reminder. I am reminded yet again with my friends who had their recurrences. So even though work is busy, I try to make sure I'm taking time for my husband and trying to remember to take care of myself.
I'll come back after my bone scan Monday with an update....Hope everyone else is healthy and doing well.

KK - Great to hear from you. Good luck with the scan!
I have another follow up this Thursday with my oncologist.
I'm on anastrozole for almost a year now, and the only major complaint is early morning pain in my hands.
Keep up your running, and hope you can get pregnant soon!
-
Thanks Phillybird! I went for my scan today. Left home around 9:15 this morning and got home close to 5pm. I left a message for my onc on my way home and the nurse called me back soon after to tell me my bone scan was clear. "No sign of disease". Feeling SO much better as I was kind of freaking out over the weekend and this news couldn't come soon enough. Now back to trying to get pregnant. Whatever the back pain is, I'll just deal with it now and hope it goes away. Might just go get a massage in a few days and definitely having a glass of wine tonight!

It's been SO long......ladies, how is everyone? xo
-
Hi misswim - thanks for reaching out! It was good to see something from this site pop up in my e-mail. How are you doing?
-
Hi there! I have been meaning to come back online to post an update on me. It took about 15 months and using some of our frozen embryos, but I'm pregnant and due at the end of November! It's been the most amazing feeling to have this baby moving around inside of me. After waiting over 5 years for this, I decided to not find out the sex. It will be a happy day to meet him/her regardless of whether it's a boy or girl. We just want him/her to be healthy! I'll post another update later, but I'm just feeling grateful for this little miracle I wasn't sure would ever happen.
Hope everyone else is doing well!

Kk11-
Congratulations! So excited for you! Hope everyone is doing well. So far so good here!
-
That's amazing news kk11!!! Wow, long time hoping and praying all comes together into a perfect little baby. Congratulations and enjoy him/her
-
Thanks Bcisnofun & 4honey! We are excited! Just 4 weeks left and so much to do. How are you both doing?
-
I'm good! Loving life!!! No problems with Tamoxifen (knock on wood) which is good since now they are saying possibly 10 years instead of 5. I don't come to this website often anymore which makes me glad (because BC is no longer on my mind all the time), but makes me sad because there was a lot of community in these threads. It's nice to "meet" people with whom you are sharing a journey. I hope everyone is doing well. Enjoy that baby kk11!!!
-
Congratulations, KK! Best wishes to you and the family!
-
Thanks Phillybird! Just about 2 weeks left now!
Bcisnofun - It's amazing how the recommendations for Tamoxifen have changed. I have done 2 years so far because I started my break in November 2013. So I'll still have 8 years left, but will probably take another break in 2-3 years to try for a 2nd baby. And then I'll finish off the remaining time. Who knows if in that time, the recommendation will change again. It was once 10 years, then 5, now back to 10. My oncologist told me to worry about it when we reach that point!

Hi everyone - thought I'd give you all my update. I went into early labor (6 days early) last Monday (11/23) at 2am with strong contractions every 5 minutes. Went to the hospital twice that day just a few hours apart and was admitted at around 12:30pm. I got my epidural at 2:30pm, but our baby went into distress just 20 minutes later. Fortunately, a team rushed in and was able to get it under control. A few hours later, I was given Pitocin to speed things along, but shortly after that our baby's heart rate dropped again and was down to 50 (should be 110-16). We were rushed into the OR and an emergency c-section was performed. Our son was born at 5:43pm. The cord was wrapped around his neck and my very strong contractions were causing his heartrate to drop. It was a scary and overwhelming experience but his vitals were great right after birth though. He lost a significant amount of weight the first 2 days, but has since been gaining it back slowly since (he's 9 days now). We've been home since Friday night and my milk came in (on my non-mastectomy side) right before leaving the hospital so we stopped supplementing with formula. I've been almost exclusively breastfeeding and pumping since. Only used formula once so I could sleep a longer stretch. It is challenging with one breast, but I'm doing my best to give my little guy what he needs! I'm so absolutely in love and feeling incredibly blessed to be a mother, HIS mother!

So wonderful to read about your baby, KK! Congrats!! What is his name? Of course, we all want to see pics.
-
Congratulations KK11!!! I am so happy for you! Best wishes for the whole family.
