Is there a July 2011 group?
Hi Ladies! I am starting chemo on July 6th and was wondering if there was a July group. Would love to start this journey with other people.

So far just me and you!
Let's go kick some Cancer ASS!
-
Lets do it Erica:-) I read your intro, like you I am a recent member:-) diagnosed on 4/27, I also have small kids (4.5 & almost 3) and I am 37 (almost 38 yrs). My BC was on my left breast, I had a lumpectomy on 5/24 and SNB, I also had the generic testing coz my sis had DCIS in 2006, but the results came back negative. I am very scared of chemo but have been getting positive feedback from ladies who have completed it or are going thru it. Which chemo will you be on? I will be on the TC 4-6 cycles. I am also looking at getting the Penguin Cold Caps to preserve my hair.
-
Can I join? I just had a medi-port inserted and am waiting to heal before starting on chemo. I think not knowing what to expect is the worst. I was diagnosed in March with Stage 1, Grade 3, Triplee Negative, IDC. Had Lumpectomy in April, sentinal node clear.
-
Of course Rejoice! Welcome to our group! I will start a thread and we can check in on that!
I need 8 rounds of a dose dense chemo over 16 weeks. I am scared but am trying to stay very positive. I hope it helps! My Dr. swears that a positive attitude and exercise are KEY! I hope he is right. lol!
I am waiting for the Penguin Cold cap people to call me back. I left a vm yesterday and they said it would take 24 hours. I will bug them again tomorrow.
We can be the July Firecrackers!
-
Hi ladies; Hope you are doing well this morning:-)
Rejoice - Welcome to our group.
Erica - keep bugging them, but they are very good at responding to emails; I actually called them and the lady sent my a bunch of info. I have not filled them out yet but will be doing so very soon, she said i still have time as my chemo will (hopefully) start the 2nd week of July (after my bday of course:-)
My primary doctor keeps telling me that he is very positive with my prognosis, he thinks I will do just fine (he actually said with my prognosis he thinks with or without chemo, i will be OKAY:-) interesting... he is very good and has been my doc for over 5 yrs. My MO also thinks my case is "favorable" and tells me the same thing that a POSITIVE attitude and EXERCIS helps alot!!
BTW, are you ladies exercising? I ahve to say I am a real slacker on that area:-( its so hard to exercise having 2 small kids (i know some will say excuses excusess :-) but seriously, I work FT 5 days a week; some days i drop off kids and hubby picks up or if he drops i pick up, all in all after work, i have my FT "mommy" job, preparing dinner, giving baths, play time, & putting kids to bed, sooo doesnt leave me time to run to the gym and work out:-( I am thinking or joining theYMCA and atleast they have a babysitting program where i can leave the kids and work out:-) Anyway, let me know how you ladies squeeze in exercising in your daily busy schedules... Lets help each other and motivate eachother.
Take care & have a pleasant day..
-
Good evening ladies-
I spoke with the CEO from Cold cap and he gave me all the info. I am on the fence. My ONC is not on board with it and I know I have to worry about my health first. UGH. I need to make a decision this week.
I have been exercising but I am home from work bc I had my mastectomy on May 25th so I have time on my hands. My nurse and Dr. both says even just a brisk walk will help. We shall see.
My prognosis is very good as well. They are being aggressive with me b/c of my age and are making me do radiation as well.
Hope everyone had a great weekend
-
I'm jumping in. I was diagnosed back in Dec, had bilateral mast in Dec, started chemo in March, finished in May, found out in June that I needed more chemo and will start in early July. I've heard of a couple of girls who did not lose their hair on the penquin caps. Sounds interesting and certainly worth looking into!
-
Golly, what if I start just before July. My first chemo appt is June 29th. So you guys have got me now. Just had the port put in Friday. And you know what hurts worse? The rash or whatever it is from removing the bandage. owies. I was diagnosed in March, I had a dbl mast and tissue expanders on May 16th and starting chemo soon.My life is a whirlwind. I have to mention tho, anyone in DC should go straight to Georgetown right this very instant for all care. Wonderful, everyone has been superior.
-
Welcome Shinypop; we are here to help and encourage each other. I am seeing my MO and nurse practitioner tomorrow for a "chemo class" and i will know the exact start date etc.. I would like my chemo to start 2nd week of july, so that i celebrate my bday properly:-) (july 3rd). I am so anxious and scared and nervous now, i guess scared of the unknown.Do you know ehich chemo you will be getting? I will be getting 4-6 TC cycles. Anyone here who will be getting the same as me?
-
Hi Snoopy. Since I'm triple pos I will be doing A/C followed by Herceptin and Taxol and then radiation. In it for the long run. I have alot of crafty friends that are excited to make me some skullcaps and my best friend is shaving my head. I start chemo next Wednesday and I went on a tour of the "chairs" this morning. Glad I didn't stay very long, cuz I really started to feel a bit freaked out. My poor Dad will be joining me next week and I hope I don't start weeping on him.
-
Oh Shiny, I feel you:-( We are here for you and we will all get through this. I have my appt tomorrow; during my last appt, my MO took us (me & my hubby) on a tour at the infusion center, and i left there feeling so depressed and down:-( Take care and all the best. Hugs to you.
-
Oh hey Snoopy, happy July b-day. I'm on the 17th.
-
Hey Ladies--I got my port on Friday and started chemo today. TC x 4. It really was not bad at all. I looked into penguin cold caps. My facility doesn't have storage for them and it seemed awfully labor intensive, so I will just embrace going bald. The chemo experience was FINE. I walked out of there feeling great. Go read over past months for the do's and don'ts, what to bring etc... My nurses laughed hysterically when I waltzed in today wheeling my cooler filled with lots of water, ice packs for fingers and toes (nail preservation). I also carried a bag of snacks! Do your homework and you'll be fine.
-
Starting DD A/C x4 and then DD Tax x4. No rads recommended as I had a BMX and no nodes involved. Had a int-high oncotype score and I am 37 so the onc is throwing the kitchen sink at it. Once done, ooph and tamo. What fun! Glad there are other ladies here to commiserate with. Port is being put in July 7.Going for a second opinion next Tuesday, so just to feel as though I am doing the right thing. Has anyone else in Stage II not had PET or CT Scans. I had 2 MRI's and two chest x-rays, and a full rib series, but the onc does not think further scans are neccesary..... worries me.
-
Before I had my surgery we weren't sure if I was Stage II or III, but my surgeon recommended PET and CT. Glad I did since I was a smoker for 28 years. Plastic surgeon told me to quit or he wasn't operating on me. That was rough. Still want to smoke now, two months later.
-
Hi. I will actually be starting on June 28th and have posted in the June forum but everyone started early on in June. I am nervous too. I will be doing TC every 3 weeks for 4 treatments. I found out on April 11th. Had my BMX on May 26th with tissue expanders placed, my onco is 27 on one tumor and 26 on the other (Left Breast). I have hit in the middle with everything so far...grade 2 stage 2 intermediate risk. I have 3 little boys ages 7 (8 on july 1), 10, and 12.
-
I'd like to join this group please. I have my first of 4 t/c on July 7. I finished rads two weeks ago. I know that's backwards from most people but it fit my summer trip schedule better. It's too hot in Hawaii for wigs so I think I'll go mostly with caps with fake bangs. I have a Look Good Feel Better class the day before chemotherapy so maybe I'll get more ideas there.
-
Hi. Ewa-swimmer. We have the same diagnosis date. I will have my first t/c on Tuesday. Our next class here isnt until August 1st but I cant wait to go. I think I am going with scarves and hats. There is a breast cancer boutique close to my house that has awesome items and prices. Checked them out today. I heard that most hairloss is on the 13th day after chemo which will be my 13th wedding aniversary...think I will be getting a buzz as a present, lol.
-
I am from the Feb 2011 group and have a wig to give away if anyone's interested. It is auburn/brown bob (shoulder length) with bangs. It is a human hair wig that was given to me by another BC survivor, but I never wore it since I used scarves instead. Just send me a PM if interested and i'll send it.

i'm joining, too! i haven't seen my onc yet, but my appointment is monday and i'm certain my chemo will start in july. i'm triple positive so i'm assuming that chemo is a given. i'll also have radiation as i opted for the lumpectomy. i wish it were monday afternoon already! i just want to know the plan. you guys are the BEST!!
-
I think I may be joining the July group. Similar to YaYa5, I am working on setting up an appointment with my medical oncologist. I am also getting the Oncotype DX testing done on my tumor, which may affect a decision regarding chemo. Still thinking that this is all very surreal, but it is great to know there is a group of July folks that I can commune with. More later. . .
-
I have a feeling July is my chemo month too, I've seen one oncologist this past week that told me the week of July 18 (my daughter's 8th birthday is the 19th so that's NOT an option). I meet with my actual oncologist July 5th for treatment planning so I have a feeling it'll be soon after.
So, the port.... My first thought to it was "NO WAY" but now that I've had time to research it's pros and cons I'm thinking I'm going to put one in. Opinions wanted? -
If I have to do the chemo, I think the port may not be so bad. Although, I am still freaked out about the whole idea. My mother-in-law had a port for her chemo for ovarian cancer. Of all the things she complained about, the port was not one of them. My understanding is that the process to put it in is not that bad and there won't be much of a scar when it comes out. I would love to hear what others will reply to Madismom's query.
-
I think it depends on what chemotherapy you are doing. I'm doing T & C for only four sessions. It is not too hard on the veins so no port for me.
-
Hi Ewa - can you explain what four sessions entails? Do you get injections on one day a week or for a couple of days in a row or what? And what about the rest weeks? Thanks in advance.
-
Starting on July 7 I go for about 2 hours of chemotherapy once every 3 weeks. One day chemotherapy 3 weeks off times 4..
You will have a better idea of your routine once you and your oncologist decide on a plan. You can read through some of the other topics like the April or May Chemo groups to get a better idea of what might happen. Don't get scared about the side effects. They may be talking about a different drug than you will get. Even if it is the same drug everyone reacts differently. -
Hi ladies, I start chemo july 7th and i will be having 4-6 cycles of TC. Initially I was also hoping on NO PORT, but after researching and consideration I will be having a port; the Nurse Practitioner is going to schedule an appt for me to have one this week.
My sessions will be one every 21 days (3 weeks).
-
i just wanted to jump in and wish you all the best - i had my mast in july of 2004 - did 6 months of dose dense (every other week) chemo afterwards - i found a nice evening walk with my dh helped tremendously as it helped me to sleep better - Drink water and Pee was the motto when i was doing chemo - your chemo nurse can be a great source of info on that and other things -
-
Thank you jenni_ca...
