Hello inspiring friends....had a lovely walk around the lake today, brisk and wonderful, along with a lot of indoor cleaning, etc. Lots of steps and feeling like my MOJO is coming back.
The two new kitties also keep me running.
-
Jazzy: Gorgeous!
Patoo: Hope you start feeling better. What fun you are having with your house.
Cheryl: That's great that ya'll are willing to help each other.
Reader: Glad your MOJO is coming back!
Claire: Sounds like the weather on this past Monday was very depressing. Hope the sun is shining now.
Walked/ran this afternoon. It was 68 degrees and nice.
-
Beautiful photo , Jazzy.
I'll second, or is it third, the gabapentin. It helps me sleep and helps with the hot flashes.
I love snow but I pretty much hate winter if it doesn't snow!
We are having warm weather here too. we had the most gorgeous sunrise and windy evening! Red sky at morning, sailor take warning
I think I would feel good to say"FIT" when I exercise but I should probably shout "FAT" when I go in the kitchen.
-
Patoo, hope you are feeling better. Fun to pick out stuff for a brand new house!
BEAUTIFUL picture, Jazzy!
Reader, two kitties? You WILL be running!!
Went to my Cardio Sculpt class this morning, ran around doing errands all day & to a wrestling match tonight (I don't like to watch wrestling very much, too painful, but two of my old 7th grade advisees are on the team. One, who is a senior, is on the verge of breaking the school record for the most career wins. He was the most focused, mature 7th grade boy that I have ever encountered, so it has been fun to watch his progress (plus his little sister bought my son's trombone & his mom gave me the best cake recipe ever!).
A young friend who has had some tough health problems just posted this on Facebook, it is too good not to share:
-
Vacuumed the living room today including getting down on my hands and knees to pick up little pieces of stuff. Swept in the kitchen. Jumped on the elliptical bike three times for two or three minutes. Did 10 leg lifts, marched about 10 times in a sitting position, and did a few other brief exercise sets. Not much but more than I was doing before I joined this thread.
I had to stop taking Tamoxifen. I did not take it last night, and I am not taking it tonight. I probably won't be able to tolerate the aromatase inhibitors. This leaves me with a second lumpectomy and radiation or a mastectomy. It seems a shame to have a mastectomy for early stage, low grade DCIS, but I have so many health issues, and I don't want to add to them.
This is the most agonizing decision I have ever faced. One month on Tamoxifen has been torturous despite my efforts to manage horrendous side effects with various meds. It just didn't work.
Tomorrow I need to pick up a big pile of stuff in the yard by a lazy contractor who built a ramp for my mother. I can haul it to the dumpster in a wagon. I know that will count.
-
12/10- nice end of the day walk for 25 minutes. Must get to the gym tomorrow for weights!
-
slow, I spent years in my pjs. I got very sick from Lyme disease and fibromyalgia, and there were weeks when I could not get enough energy going to wash my clothes. I walked around the house wrapped in bed sheets. Sort of like wearing a Roman toga. Now, I have good pajamas and night gowns, and I keep up with the wash enough that I haven't wandered through the house wrapped only in a bedsheet in a very long time. I still spend full days in my pjs though.
-
Hi all, been offline long enough to have been a dozen pages behind but finally caught up.
Welcome to the new ladies and congrats everyone for milestones and effort. Great pix!
Work on new house proceeding apace. Yucky carpet - out. Wall between LR and kitchen - gone. Ugly paneling and acoustic ceiling tiles in LR - down. Really opened it up. Decided to put in a 2nd bathroom at the end of that long narrow bedroom so there went my home yoga studio but the added value is a big plus. Plumber says it's a simple straightforward job yay. Now time to decide on fixtures and flooring. On track to close end of Jan (fingers crossed).
Annie, I had bad night sweats after I was hit with chemopause. You got some great advice already so I'll just mention one thing. I slept in a cotton t-shirt so when I woke up drenched I could whip off the wet one and slip into a dry one from a stack I kept next to the bed. The night sweats tapered off after a few months but I still get hot flashes so I dress in layers of natural fabric and deploy a folding hand fan PRN.
Been walking per usual and did a Jingle Bell 5K last weekend. Fun but no snow. We've had one snowstorm so far but it was a doozy - 14 inches - and we had two driveways and a sidewalk to shovel. That ergonomic snow shovel is worth every penny.
For the Cheetos lovers - try Harvest Snaps. http://www.harvestsnaps.com/ Crisps of snap peas or lentils with lots of yummy flavors. Guilt-free and gluten-free. My natural foods grocery sells them but so does Walmart.
Bed time so good night ladies! ♥

Glad to hear from you, Badger! I figured that you were probably buried in all the 'house stuff'. It will be great when all is said and done, but is definitely a process!!
-
DecisionFreak....have you tried Evista? One of my friends couldn't tolerate Tamoxifen, but has done just fine on Evista.
Nice to walk tonight and be able to see STARS!!!!! I want to do a ride along the Sammamish River Trail to see just how high the waters are at the moment. Lots of flooding here.
Will be working most of the weekend. Hopefully, also steaming puddings. Part of Christmas to everyone. - Claire
-
Walked again tonight for 45 minutes. Tomorrow night I have to chaperone a teen dance, so I will not be able to go walking, but will be spending plenty of time on my feet anyway.
-
Patoo, sure hope you feel better!! Enjoy designing your new home!! Same to you, Badger!! Lots of fun, but I know it can be exhausting, too!!
Love reading everyone's posts!! Spent the week in Maui, and did some hiking everyday! Did a 4 mile hike on Monday!! Ate alot, too🍧😃
-
Maui? Wow! Post a picture so we can be jealous!
My plan is to do half an hour on the treadmill(in 15 minutes), go to yoga, do another post office/errand run, and then sit down & write out all my grocery & planning lists and not get up until they are done! The weather has sadly turned more December Normal & it is supposed to start snowing later on today.
-
Claire_in_Seattle, thanks for mentioning Evista. Medical team did not mention it, but maybe it is in their back pocket. Tamoxifen has been gold standard, although AI drugs have now been shown to be more effective than T. Saw a Danish prospective 10 year study that found for low grade cancers, lumpectomy plus radiation had better overall survival for younger women than mastectomy or lumpectomy and hormones. I think maybe they thought that older women may have had more aggressive cancers, but mine is not aggressive. Docs can't hand out drugs to low risk patients like candy! I feel better already off the T.
-
If you are post-menopausal, you should be on an aromatase inhibitor anyway, not Tamoxifen. They give a bigger non-recurrence chance and generally have less side effects as well. They, not Tamoxifen, are the gold standard.
-
Hi, ruthbru, Yep, you are correct, the AIs in theory have become gold standard but there is insufficient evidence for long-term use as compared to T. For me, the doctors thought the AIs might turn me into a old woman with arthritis and arthralgias both of which already torture me due to Lyme disease and Fibromyalgia. I am a REALLY young 61 year old with an amazing health profile for someone of any age despite my disability. Medical team said I have many wonderful years ahead of me and that they did not want to ruin my life by giving me AIs. Have a blessed day, Dear Girl.
-
But if you are having so much trouble with it, maybe it would be worth giving an Al a try? I did 5 years of Arimidex with very few side effects, but I know that is not the case for everyone. Since you are Stage 0, and have other medical issues; you have the option of not taking anything that makes you more miserable and feeling okay about that decision (that's just my opinion anyway....I am, of course, not a doctor and any advice should be taken with a grain of salt!).
Done with exercise and now can NOT check in here anymore today
-
Ruth- that is good news you are off the AIs. I have had my share of challenges on anastrazole, but almost to three years on it and trying to get through the last two. Doing Prolia shots as it is crapping out my bones. Will have a bone density test next week to see how Prolia has helped since we began this protocol in January!
-
Hi, ruthbru, I hope you are having a good day! I heard from the MO by email. She said stop Tamoxifen and they are not giving me any more meds until after surgery when they will try the AIs. I am wary of over treatment. MO said to go to ER if I have a fever or other major symptoms. I am running low grade now at 99.6. I feel like crap. Fuckitty. Fuckitty.
-
Lol Ruth. . .
I'm finally back from my lumbar epidural detour. My Fitbit went into shock this week from the lack of exercise and the battery is dying. Hopefully it will hold out for the pathetic 1.5 miles per hour that I'm managing on the treadmill. Still sore, but no more cutting, sharp nerve pain in lower back.
Will try to catch up.
Scottie

So, I felt like crap all day. Just wrote a post on Crazy Town to count my blessings. Stopped Tamoxifen, stopped antidepressants. Very little exercise today. Tomorrow is a new day. It is okay to admit defeat. Then, it is a good idea to get up and start trying again to meet my goals. New habits are hard. People fail on average 11 times before they succeed in developing a new habit.
-
Decision: Yes, tomorrow is another day! Have it be a good one for you.
badger: Loved reading about your renov to your new home. Sounds like a segment from Property Brothers on HGTV. I know you can't wait move in!
Kindergarten: Maui sounds wonderful!
Hi Everybody. Walked/ran this afternoon. Another warm day (upper 60s) and the weekend will be more of the same. No snow here!
-
Thanks, still fighting my cold but getting better. Chose flooring, cabinet, counter, bath tiles, external siding colors and styles today. Will meet with designer on Tuesday to put it all together and see what if anything we want to upgrade.
Good to hear from you badger and have fun with your remodeling also.
Just walking about today, a little under 7000 steps.
Night sculpted friends.
-
Decided to torture myself this morning and do the FIRM'S 500 Calorie Workout (Christmas Party tomorrow night).
-
Drains out yesterday, BS came in while they were removing drains and made that my post op appt. so I don't have to go back next week for that.!!! Yay! No doc appt... until the 21st! Still taking it a bit easy, doing the exercises they gave me until I see the PT to prevent lymphedema. Clipped on my fitbit today, after two weeks of mastectomy laying around... Feels great to move more freely without the silly drains!!!! Can't wait to get moving more and getting some of the chemo weight off of me.
It's going to be a crazy 62 degrees here in southern NJ today, and the Army vs. Navy game is this afternoon. Since we are in the flight path for Philadelphia, and the game is being played at Lincoln Field, we get to sit outside and watch the fighter jets fly over, then when they get out toward the city to bank left and fly over the field we can hear them hit their afterburners and we run inside to watch the field flyover on TV. A huge number of my family are Navy, and I have two dear friends who have sons at West Point. This is the only football game I even remotely care about, so today should be a fun day. I plan to get a nice walk in after lunch before hanging with family and enjoying time with them...
So thankful for all of you out here inspiring everyday!
Warrior on, women! Warrior On!
-
Yea Jersey and Scottie!
Jazzy, did you know that dried plums (ie prunes) can actually BUILD bones? I ate a serving (look at the box, usually about 7 of them) every day while on Arimidex & still try to eat them at least a couple days a week.Since they taste sweet, I have grown rather fond of them.
-
-
Ruth- I think I did know that from another post you shared here awhile back. I will get some at the store today and thank you for the reminder!
-
Jazzygirl......love the motivation! I need some right now......a nap is calling me!
-
Mysunshine- I am gearing up to go to the gym. Asthma and an achy shoulder kept me from it yesterday, but today feel better.
Nap then maybe some exercise?
