Let's Post our Daily Exercise

Ortho put me on rest with no treadmill or lifting until Thursday, so my exercise until then is eating cookies and cake w/a side of cider. Oh and Dh is taking me to dinner tomorrow for my "29th" Birthday. If I don't make myself sick by Thursday, I'll be back at the gym.

12/8- nice end of the day walk for 30 minutes!
-
A friend brought over the elliptical bike. It is not what I thought it would be. For now, it is fine, but you have to stand up and it puts pressure on my knee joints. However, I don't have knee problems or any sign of arthritis in my knees. I can get on it for a couple of minutes, then I get tired. I plan to work my way up to an hour a day on the elliptical bike...slowly
I also threw my arms up in the air 30 times today while saying FAT, and I did some very modified crunches, not really crunches but working my way up to crunches. And, I did a ton of leg lifts. Whew, I am out of breath.
-
Decision- how about a new mantra when you throw your arms up in the air like "healthy!"
-
I went for a night walk at the trail. My total today is4.36 miles, which wore me out! I returned back to work yesterday and is exhausting. My sleep is very restless due to night sweats due to my hormone changes from my surgery. I hope it will get better. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated 😀.

Hey, Jazzygirl, I say FAT because it makes my 85 year old mom, Anne, (pronounced Ohne or Ani) smile. Healthy is good too. I just enjoy being crazy sometimes. Heathy takes more energy to say. Maybe it will burn more calories than FAT. I hate PC and the language police. I could say weight challenged, but the reality is my BMI is 30, and I am carrying too much body FAT! Being gentle with myself didn't work too well.
Annie88, I am sorry to hear about your night sweats. Sleep should be restful, a way of letting go of the day's wear and tear. Gabapentin might help with your night sweats, but I am not certain. It does help with hot flashes for many people. Several thoughts come to mind. If you take a hot bath before bed, you will lower your core body temperature and that lower body temp often helps people sleep. If your body temp is lower, that MIGHT help reduce the hot flashes. Just an idea maybe worth trying. You need to sleep in a cool room, but not too cool or your muscles will be stiff in the morning and that puts you at risk for falling. I like to sleep in a room at 71 degrees Fahrenheit. You need light weight night gowns or other very light pjs to stay as cool as possible. You could experiment with cooling down your top sheets in the fridge and get them out and wrap yourself in them if you are sweating. Cooling the body down is a very old therapy. Psychiatrists used to wrap agitated or our of control patients in cold sheets to calm them down. I think cooling therapies are coming back into vogue. You could also try buying a neck wrap that cools your body down as the blood flows through your arteries. I cannot remember what they call those things you put around your neck to stay cool.
-
Annie. . .I also agree about Gabapentin. It helps with both my nerve pain and the hot dry flushes. I don't sweat so it's hard to cool down when it happens. DH and I sleep with a portable air condition even in the winter and I have a tower fan. Ice water by the bed is another good trick. Hope you get some relief.

Decision, I laughed out loud when I read your 'FAT' mantra!
Annie, I still sleep with a fan right by the bed & also have some relaxation CDs and also a hypnosis one (which very surprisingly knocks me out). I took prescription sleeping pills for awhile too, because I NEEDED to sleep and wasn't getting it.
I subbed today and went to Barre tonight. Still working on the Christmas cards.
-
Annie88. I'm with Scottie. I hope you get some relief. I had some brutal hot flushes the first two weeks I was on Tamoxifen. I guess the Celexa and the Gabapentin together have made them nearly disappear. Unless you are depressed and desperate, I would avoid antidepressants to manage hot flushes or night sweats. The Tamoxifen sent me reeling into a nightmare depression. I hope to beat this depression with exercise so I can go off the antidepressants.
Gabapentin has very few side effects for most people. My mom Anne takes it, and I take it for fibromyalgia but it helps with the hot flushes.
I think the take away message is to do what you can to stay cool at night.
-
ruthbru, saying FAT makes me laugh too. It is a way of reminding myself that I have work to do to burn body fat and lose weight, but that I can try to find a way to have fun in a very difficult time of my life.
FAT! I have gotten on this elliptical bike several times tonight. I thought an elliptical bike was a sit down bike. Anyway, it takes my breath away. I read that BC patients in treatment often gain weight and add body fat. I had good numbers on my blood tests recently, and I don't want to sit around getting morose and even more flabby than I am and end up with heart disease and diabetes along with BC. FAT is what I am. I know how to dress to hide it, and people say they can't imagine why I need to lose weight and shape up. I know what is under those deceptive clothes. FAT! Raise my arms up and declare war on body FAT!
I am going to keep saying it and raising my arms above my head. FAT!
-
That way, once you've got it going on, you will only have to change the vowel from 'a' to 'i'......FAT to FIT!
-
Did 45 minutes of walking tonight. Decision, I'll have to try saying FAT! on every lap.
-
Not much exercise today as had a board meeting in Seattle. 71 as a temperature for sleeping????? Not even in the summer if I can help it. I like a cool room <60F. Snuggle under a nice Hungarian goose down comforter. When really chilly, I do a hot water bottle.
As for potatoes, I discovered the ultimate. I made extra Yukon Gold for the crab cakes the other night, and of course made extra as I had a feeling that mashed would be delish with my pot roast. They were, and even more so with the 10 small drops of truffle oil. The recipe: boil potatoes with skins on, cool and then peel. Mash and put in a pot with butter and cream. Add a few drops of truffle oil and stir. Didn't need any salt or pepper.
I have leftovers for tomorrow night when I finish the pot roast
Off to bed in a bit. - Claire

I slept with a fan blowing on me for many years summer and winter.
Tonight did Grit Strength, only used 10lbs on the bar as I'm still in recovery mode, still a little cough, then did a special 90 minute Zumba class, it's was our instructors birthday today and 6 other instructors came to celebrate so the class was crazy, as you can see this guy is very popular.....
-
Touche, ruthygirl, you get it!
Cubbie2015, you go girl!
-
I'm with the cold room gals - in winter I sleep with a window open and a ceiling fan on, and in summer we have a room A/C. We found a remote control for the ceiling fan that has a thermostat setting. You can set it for a temperature, and if the room temp is a lot hotter, it will run the fan on high. As the room cools, the fan automatically slows, and when it reaches the temp you set, the fan stops. If the room starts to warm up again, the fan will start up again. I have mine set at 63, and even with that I'll throw the covers off a few times each night.
-
Like the idea to eventually change the vowel. 2-hour line dancing class today. Will use some of the steps/moves at dinner/dance getting ready to attend tonight.
Night sculpted friends.
-
Your dinner/dance sounds fun, Patoo!
Cheryl: your friend is very popular. Great picture. It's neat that you got to see filming while you were waiting the other day.
Scottie: Enjoy your cookies and cake.
Walked/ran this earlier this afternoon.
-
Wow, that's a lot of people, Cheryl. Was there room to actually move.
I vote for a cold room too....about 66 degrees is perfect for me (plus the fan). Speaking of temperatures, it was an unbelievable 57 degrees here today. I am going to post a picture of our walking ladies OUTSIDE again, and the gorgeous sunrise we got to experience.

Got on the elliptical bike today about four or five times for one to two minutes. That is all I could do. It is a tough work out. Walked around the house outside one time. Did a little picking up inside. Will try to get in a few more licks on the bike and some leg lifts.
Don't feel well. Feel achy and yukky. A bit of a headache. Wonder if it is the Tamoxifen.
Wow, you ladies could do a plunge into the Arctic. Your rooms are COLD! I moved to the Deep South five years ago. We start to get a chill in our bones at 68 degrees Fahrenheit. It is in the 80s for many months of the year here, and it can stay in the low 90s for weeks. It is December 9, and there are roses blooming everywhere in the front yard. I would keep the house cooler to save on electricity, but it is a hazard for my mother to be in a cold environment. Anyway, I have gotten acclimated to living in the heat. 68 degrees is cold, and I have to get under a blanket in the winter months at 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
Just the usual, 45 minutes of walking. Those are some determined walking ladies you belong to, Ruth. People around here don't bundle up and go out, they just move indoors to the Y. It's starting to get crowded in there!
-
Got out for a walk tonight. Bagged yesterday post board meeting as was pouring and about 9:30pm. We had the Gloomiest Day in decades (centuries perhaps?) here on Monday. So I wasn't imagining things.
Had dental work done this afternoon and treated with wine brandy once the Novocain wore off. Glad I had non-chewy food (pot roast) on hand for dinner.
I LOVE cold weather. I was born when something like -20F. I have always loved sleeping in a cold room. I remember college when fine when I went to bed, but they turned on the steam heat a 2am. Of course, I got up and opened a window. I will say that if I don't go skiing in the rain ever again, it will be just fine.
But cold, crisp, and clear is what makes me really feel alive. - Claire
-
Its been a lean walking week....haven't met my goal of 15K steps a couple days this week...yesterday was only 12,600+...today I'm 14K+ and not sure if I'll break 15K. I think my pedometer isn't working properly. I checked it a couple times when I was in the grocery store earlier and it wasn't recording steps. I need to get back into the swing of things...I definitely feel better when I get my walks in daily. I strive to walk in the morning before work, take a break during the work day and then in the evening. And the past couple days I can't use weather as an excuse as its been in the 50's and 60's but winter will be back on Saturday with the 30's and snow!!
-
A month ago, I asked the doc for sleeping pills. Then, I decided I didn't like the safety profile of hypnotics. Now, with some exercise during the day, I am starting to sleep at night. Instead of waking up six times a night or not sleeping at all, I am waking up one time at 2:30 a.m.
Claire_in_Seattle. I LOVE cold weather. I had to move to the Deep South for a host of reasons. I look longingly in catalogs at winter coats and scarves and rubber boots meant to survive rain, snow, and sleet. It rarely gets very cold here. The temp went down in the house last night to 66 degrees, and it doesn't usually go lower than that. We have a few freezing night in winter, but that is all. It will be 78 degrees here in Sunday! Doubtful I will make it back to the East Coast where a blizzard was the opportunity for a blissful day of coffee and reading in bed.
I remember about those steam heat pipes in college! I lived in an old dorm at a college in Virginia that had those pipes. That made me take a little trip down memory lane to some happy days.

Ruth....that is so true! I often see people out running in very light clothing, even when it's in the 40s here. However, I need fleece. All of us are likely to have coffee outside even with temps in the 30s here...IF the sun is out. (We had the gloomiest day in decades earlier this week....least amount of measurable light, with most of the day like deep twilight.)
Agree with winter clothes being a lot more fun. I love my cashmere sweaters. Not to mention boots and scarves. Enjoying the vintage Made in France leather gloves I got for a song on eBay. Then there are those patterned tights I rocked one day of the conference.
You also get to eat things like the leftover pot roast I had with truffled mashed potatoes and mashed parsnips (frozen peas too) for dinner last night. So good, and just what I needed post dentist.
I may be eating my words when I do my long ride on Saturday. Which I will do unless thoroughly putrid (or icy) outside. Because I also find that a lot of exercise is what is essential for good sleep.
Happy exercising everyone! - Claire

Ruth everyone rushed to the front of the room where it was very crowded, I stayed at the back and had room to dance. DecionFreak I was looking at my roses yesterday as they are blooming like crazy, a couple more weeks and it's time to take them down to ground to rest, I hate to do it but it does make for a good blooming season.
Last night went to Spin class unfortunately don't think I'll make it to the gym today as I had a text at 11pm last night from a colleague who asked for my help today, we are actually in the same business but years ago we starting working together rather than against each other so when either of us needs help we just jump in, firstly need to go to my office and call forward my phones so I don't miss any calls....love technology. -
Some walking this morning showing my guest open houses and also looking at exterior colors as we have to go to the designer tomorrow to pick out everything for our home which will start to build next week. Home resting now as my cold is still hanging on and I'm not feeling well.
-
I wanted to share a holiday greeting with all my friends here. This photo was taken in northern New Mexico during December of last year. Blessings to everyone for a peaceful holiday season, and good health in the New Year!
