Thanks mvspaulding. Hoping your PET scan is all clear.

I'm rocking my "buzz" cut but the short hair is falling fast. Sure I will have patches in a couple of days.

(Hubby took the pic before I showered and washed all the loose hair off)

praying for a clear PETscan! I cut my hair shorter prior to the chemo but not super short - it's going to shed snd fall 12th - 14th day - if you don't brush it during that time you might stretch it but it's time to buzz then. Smurfette darling!! You looking fabulous!!!! Thank you for sharing!! I'm spotty patches and the back of my head is all stubble so can you believe at day 21 that would be long still? Nothing on top or sides LOL! But listen you guys, the places on my bald head have some peach fuzz!!! That's sweet because maybe that means at the very end we will get some kind of growth starting even a few weeks after the last chemo... Small worry this hair has become now it's all about round 2 heart burn and white counts - ugh. Wigging It Today!! image

I'm just about to hit the road and head off for my second chemo.

Hoping round two is a little more gentle than the first.

Wishing for minimal side effects for all. Hugs friends, Donna.

Should I speak it? Round 2 went exceptionally well!!! The prayers are working!! Remember that white count drop and quarantine? My Whites went up from 1.7 to 17.5 with the booster shot back on Nov 16! Great news! Now it's a little high so That means I get the shot again tomorrow but at HALF dose = less bone pain! Yay!!! 😃 Now that we have my heartburn and whites covered my side effects will be minimized A LOT! .... We will see over the next 5 days! The "unknown" news is there are different side effects I have not experienced in round 1 that sometimes creep in in round 2, so I have to watch for those buggers but not worry at the same time. Home with this guy and thanking God for a good day! how's it going for you all?? Smurfette? Did round 2 go better??? Myspaulding how was the Pet??? Updates please, praying on this group daily!

    Hugs, sandy

WE CAN AND WE WILL DO THIS!!!!

so glad to hear your round 2 went well Sandy!

Waiting to hear from you Smurfette, thanks to both of you for sharing your pics. I went Saturday and got a shorter cut that I actually like and my sister who also had long hair cut hers short with me.

I did all my prep for PET scan today, got up early and had a high protein breakfast. Didn't eat 4 hours prior to my appointment and when I get to hospital there was a scheduling mix up and they had me down for the scan tomorrow. So back home I went and went to my plastic surgeon appointment this afternoon. I got my first fill, so I'm not in a lot of pain but kind of uncomfortable right now. Got my period and a cold this within the last few days so I've seen better days.

    Hi all,

I am new here. I am 29 years old. I just had a bilateral mastectomy on October 28th and currently have in tissue expanders for reconstruction. The recovery process has gone well. My Oncotype test came back with a score of 23 and intermediate - so I will be starting Chemo in December. Right now I am going through the egg preservation process first.

At first my onc recommended AC treatment, but after reading some of the harsher long term side effects of adriamycin, i told him i was concerned about it. So now I have decided on doing Taxatere and Cytoxen. I have been following the boards on here for the past month or so, so i just wanted to say hello to all of you who have started this process already.

I currently have really long hair and will probably be cutting it short and donating it after my first treatment, and after it starts to fall out I will buzz it short. Ick. But we gotta do what we gotta do.

welcome Nebraska 917! So sorry you are joining this party that no one wants to be at. But hey, the bright side is, we are all doing this together! Private message me anytime you need, or chat anything here - all the ladies here are very supportive!! We all will get back to you as soon as we can. I'm a bilateral too. I choose no reconstruction - I'm 51 - very supportive family - and I'm really okay with it. I support your reconstruction!. I have several friends doing phase 2 of reconstruction and they love their looks!! Hang in there it can be painful but they all say it is worth it. So glad to hear about the eggs preservation too. I have a hysterectomy and ovaries out 5 years before my cancer for unrelated non cancerous problems.

Glad to hear your on TC. A is tough stuff if you don't have to have it that's good. I just had round 2 yesterday of TC. I got my white count booster today. If you need those booster shots take Claritin the day of! They tecommend there is something in it that blocks bone pain in your back. Everyone here has done similar reactions, but also some have more severe. The good news is, you can do this, you don't have to like it.

The hair thing will pass. I never thought it would but when it finally is falling out and you realize you are there at that point- it's like you are free from that worry and taking first steps to get hair to grow back. Please go wig looking. I didn't think I'd ever wear one but believe me you will be glad you have it. If you go when you have your hair cut you will able to match colors. My hospital had 1 free wig from American cancer society - ask at your oncology office for wig places.

Remember we are all in this together! You are not alone dear! You can and you will do this! Sending you love, and hugs, and adding you to my prayer list- I'm a warrior in prayer!

Sandy, and yes, I'm still freaked out 4 sure!

I am going to go to our image recovery center where they teach about wigs and help you get situated with that type of thing. Which is nice, because I have no idea about that type of stuff! I have heard the hair loss starts about day 12. Is that right?

Has anyone iced their fingers during taxotere due to neuropathy or nail issues?

Also - I get to choose whether to have a port inserted or just a picc line. Any thoughts on that? It's only 4 rounds but they are 3 weeks apart. So that is kind of a while to maintain a pic line. Not sure which way to go.

So glad you are going to that event! You will learn a lot about these wigs, fittings etc. when you try them on do not worry most need to be trimmed to fit your face so bangs are made long - And it's tough sometimes to see past the layers but stylist will trim it and if will be perfect! So try a little longer do they can trim it your way,

Yes day 12 is correct!! Mine was not shedding and I thought I would be lucky - denial!! I went to doctor day 11 and tugged on my hair and said its not shedding! The very next day I brushed out a brush full of hair. Mine shedding like s dog it did not clump out - I was afrsid to see myself. But slowly shed day 12-14. My son buzzed it off day 15 it was just hanging on.

I have knit caps from kohls I like its winter and I don't care for brimmed hats. If I run out I put on the Cap everyone is wearing caps so no one knows! Lol!!

No nail issues. No icing nails. Mine stopped growing first ten days but started again after that. I keep them shorter and they are fine. I use vitamin E and Shea butter cream on my hands several times a day and on nails. Chemo and winter dries up hands and feet!

I do not have a pic line or a port; they insert the day of chemo so I can't help with that.

    Hope this helps!

    Sandy,

ugh!!! No no no! Oh Guavaberry! I'm so sorry to hear this!! Switching makes the most sense, I'm praying on your doctors to find a good cocktail for you that you can tolerate. I'm home nursing bloating nausea and a headache from round 2 on Monday, but this is nothing compared to your struggle! I wish I could do something to help you!

    Praying strong on you!

I'm worried about the allergic reactions as well!! Seems like a lot of people can tolerate it though. Do you guys take steroids/benedryl with the taxotere??

I take 2 steroids the day before, one the day of and one the next day - 4 pills total 4 mg each - helps take the initial reactions off - no Benadryl got me - do far my biggest challenge continues to be acid reflux even in meds - it is better this round but it is still present day 2- probably yo day 5 or 6. I had no nausea 1st round they give anti nausea meds in Iv so helps got up yo 5 days - 2 bs round I am feeling some on day 3 so we will see - I also slept 3 hours this morning and still am still exhausted - post chemo and booster effect for me.

    Hope this helps! Sandy,

I am tentatively set for Monday, the 14th. I feel like there's a million things to do in between now and then, but ready to get it started and done with. I think i am going to go with the picc line, just because i dont want to schedule another surgery right now after the egg retrieval. I believe they mentioned that i would take steroids the day before, of and after, and then day 4 is usually when the worst feeling hits coming off the steriods.

that is correct - many do well the first round, but things start to change 2 round up - I'm finding that the Claritin helps bone pain a lot from the white count booster shot and it is even helping the acid reflux pain ! Just a tip!!!

Hello all. I am new here also. I was reading about allergic reactions and I was allergic to Taxotere (I broke out horribly on my face), so I was switched to weekly Taxol for 9 cycles. I seemed to be tolerating it well. I did lose my hair after my first session. I had shoulder-length hair and it started to fall out so I buzzed it. My first chemo regimen I got very tired and jittery, and had a loss of appetite, but other than that, tolerated it well. After a week, my appetite came back but my taste buds are off. Does anyone know when food starts to taste better? I've heard after chemo, and have also heard your taste buds come back while you're taking chemo. I guess everyone is different. Was certainly different this Thanksgiving. Ate my favorite foods but they didn't taste like my favorite foods.

Good luck at the doctor. I feel your pain with the worries of adriamycin.

Sandy -- how are your side effects going today? Do you take any sort of supplements or anything besides the clariton to try to reduce any of them? I'm trying to make a pre-chemo shopping list of things to stock up on!

nausea but better when I eat do I haven't taken the compazine today; migraine down it seems to come 3-4 days after chemo and white booster - ice packs only thing that helps for me - everyone different.

You need on hand - Imodium, Claitin, reflux meds, miralmex, ice pack, heat wrap for your neck.

I did not feel side effects for 48 hrs post treatment as steroids mask it - once off steroids the storm hits me - if I get past the nausea I'm doing better!

Hugs! When u start I forgot chemo brain!
