littleblue, that sucks. So far, knock on wood, my grandkids have snotted all over me this year, and I haven't gotten sick yet. Go figure! Hoping you get over it quick.
Took four days off riding, been doing 4 mile walks just to change things up. Which cost me $300 since somebody broke into my truck today while I was enjoying a wonderful beach walk. They emptied the cash out of both mine and my husbands wallets, and took my Amex card. Assholes

My being is not well. Sitting here on the ledge a few days now with absolutely no motivation to get up and exercise. So here I am confessing that I have jumped out of the wagon, yet again. But...that's gotta change! I think I need to come back here and post my daily exercise to get me motivated again...so I will be back later to report...
Anyone else off the wagon?

I think the wagon ran over me. -
I did it...back on the wagon and holding on. Took a brisk 2 mi walk this morning and another 1 mi in steps, so 3 mi today.
Sorry to hear you're sick Jen, we would never run you over! I'll save you a spot on the wagon. Get well soon!

I have a goal to do 150 Jazz classes this year and I have 15 to go. In prior years, between only going 3 times a week average and travel, I never came close. At some point, I figured out I might be close and realized with some effort, I could do it.

I'm up 5# from a pretty moderate Thanksgiving, and it has not reduced one jot as I've decreased salt and carbs this week. Therefore, this week will be in overdrive for fruits, vegetables, oatmeal, and olive oil. After today's work holiday party. Really.

Sorry Ksusan about the weight gain, but for Thanksgiving I think it was worth it! You seem so disciplined, I'm hoping it will come off soon.

It was a hard-won loss, but I hope my set point has settled slightly lower. I ate holiday food at the office party, and then left so I wouldn't keep eating.
I danced around yesterday and today and tomorrow will get to Zumba (a 45-minute class and an hour class each day). Gym maybe Friday/Saturday. Plenty of water, green tea, apples, ham, nuts.

Ok, past week exercise stats.
59.3 miles riding, 3,318 feet climbed, 8 miles walking. I took off four days just because...
Total for year so far, 2,804 cycling miles and 106,368 feet of climbing. Plus spin class, hikes, lots of walking this year.

still have swollen glands and painful sinuses which of course I attributed to cancer....I'm a crazy person. Glad to see everyone doing so well! It inspires me!

littleblue, I'm with you. Grandkids finally infected me with this cold, throat is frickin sore as hell. Head fuzzy, nose stopped up, etc. but I still did Herceptin and rode my bike today. Never back down, never give up

Okay now, Jen, more history of science! The sulfa drugs were the first real antibiotics. They were developed from textile dyes. They used to turn your skin red until it was discovered that the part of the molecule that dyed wasn't needed for the medicinal effect.

One of my aunts was a medical anthropologist. If you like history of medicine and similar, there are some good books available as hard copy or from Audible on medicines, diseases, and culture. I have a paperback about the history of scurvy that I got to read during surgery recovery but I had no concentration. It has just risen to the top of my stack again.

Neat! Its....a new interest...you could say. Dovetails nicely with Ethnobotany, though. As of tonight, though, the history of medicine officially creeps me out.

Well, yeah. I have some of my students research Shiro Ishii (and how he wasn't punished because the US wanted his work) and it's quite the downer. It's a good lead in to their online research ethics and policies module, but it doesn't make a person happy. OTOH, reading about the development of sulfa drugs is mostly heartening. Only a little Nazi-appropriated science there.

In other news, Thanksgiving plus a birthday celebration have knocked my weight up 6.5 pounds. I didn't even go particularly nuts. 6.5! and it's not reducing. I will have to find some diuretic, because this is really uncomfortable at my surgical sites.

This interview is so funny it made my cry laughing. There's a bit in there about working out, that I thought you would all enjoy. If you don't know anything about her, she has struggled with mental illness and alcohol abuse all her life, and is funny and smart and charming here.
