Tamoxifen or Aromatase Inhibitors for PREmenopausal patients?
Hello there!
Please share your experience or help me with advise!
Which is better, more effective for PREmenopausal women:
1) only Tamoxifen,
2) Goserelin + Tamoxifen or
3) Goserelin + Aromatase inhibitors?
What do your doctors say? What do you think?
I am 36 years old, Breast cancer 2a stage (T1N1M0), hormone-positive Luminal B type.
IHC Er+ (90%), Pr+ (90%), Her2 +1, ki-67 43%.
I had radical mastectomy and chemotherapy 4AC+4T (with Goserelin injections during chemo) this year. Just finished.
Now I have to start hormonal therapy. Different doctors prescribe me different types of hormonal therapy, so I don't know which to chose!

You can google SOFT and TEXT trial results or search those terms on these boards and you will see that ovarian suppression with aromatase inhibitors is slightly more effective in younger women than the other regimens. Good luck!

Welcome Stranger,
As Inks mentioned, there are some really interesting study results about this. For more info, read the main Breastcancer.org site's research news articles about:
- June 2014: Aromasin Plus Ovarian Suppression Reduces Recurrence Risk Better Than Tamoxifen Plus Ovarian Suppression in Premenopausal Women Who’ve Received Chemotherapy (with video)
- December 2014: Aromasin Plus Ovarian Suppression Reduces Recurrence Risk Better Than Tamoxifen Plus Ovarian Suppression in Premenopausal Women
We hope this helps!

Thank you so much! These links are very helpful!

Thanks a lot! That's was what I needed!

I was 46 and pre-meno when I started tamox. After two years, I lost bone density. Now that I am post-meno, I've gained back some of that loss. My MO says the bone loss does not happen to all patients. (I was already at high risk for osteoporosis). If you're concerned you can do a baseline DEXA scan now and then again in two years.

Thank you!

I am doing OS alone right now, I was on aromasin but I developed some side effects. I do know that OS alone is more effective than tamoxifen alone.

I am doing OS and tamox. My doctor was concerned about bone loss on an AI

There's a 5+ page thread dedicated to this topic called: "Changing to AI/OS from Tamoxifen after reviewing SOFT study?"
Hope it helps...
