Husband and wife have cancer at same time

I was diagnosed with BC early in 2014. I had a BMX in April, and my husband was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma in June. We scheduled my exchange surgery for July, and his surgery was in August. It was quite a feat to fit all those doctors' appointments in along with the surgeries! Then my husband ended up with a severe infection two weeks after his surgery. It was all difficult, but we have many things to be thankful for: his tumor was small (but high grade), neither one of us required chemo or radiation, our children are grown, and we also had lots of support from family and friends.

Good grief Janett, you've both been through a lot. I'm so happy to hear that both of you didn't need chemo or radiation!! Best wishes to you both!!
-
Hope everyone is doing well. So on Tuesday, next week, my husband is getting the results of his 6 month ct scan to see if the little 8mm spot on his liver is going to show up. This was found 2 years ago during his surgery for colon cancer. Every scan he has had since has been clear. I am very anxious about this one. The very thought of him going through chemo again or worse, learning that he has had a lot of progression sickens me. My dh is so amazingly calm about this that I have to hide how I feel as it would be so unfair to him for me to be upset And cause him more worry.
Anyway I just needed to post this and get it off my chest.
Hugs to all.

-
what great news!!!! -
Shoppygirl, fantastic news for both of you!
-
Thanks everyone! My DH was nonchalant about the results as usual! Men!!!!
-
shoppygirl, I know what you mean about men being nonchalant. I had to convince my DH to take his stage 2, grade 3 sarcoma seriously. My BC was stage 1, grade 2. I felt like both diagnoses were big deals, but he acted like his was minor. When he got the infection two weeks after his surgery though, THAT got his attention in a very painful way!
-
My DH is the same way. Not much rattles his cage. I wish I could be more like him.
-
Yes, I wish that I could be more calm about things but I guess one of us has to worry about things !!
-
At least both you know what each other is going through . Hope you two are doing well. -
Thanks Ang.
Strangely, it was good that we were so aware of what the other was going through.

Hello all
I just wanted to update this thread as my husband had his 6 month ct scan and he continues to be NED! There is still no sign of the met on his liver from the colon cancer and he is clear everywhere else too !
I almost can't believe it! It has been 2.5 years since we were both diagnosed with cancer at the same time. It feels like yesterday that I was so distraught over the possibility that we both might die and leave our children! Now I feel so much more positive about things!
Hugs to all !!

That's such good news shoppygirl!

WOW shoppygirl, has it been six months already??? Time just flies by!! Such awesome news!!!!! I'm doing the happy dance for you both. So nice to see you feeling so good.
-
Thank you! It truely feels like a miracle !!
-
I wanted to post another update! My DH just saw his oncologist today and his most recent CT scan is still clear. This makes it three years of NED with stage 4 colon cancer!! He can now go nine months before his next scan and blood work every three months. I can't believe it! Three years ago this month we received his devestating diagnosis (two months after mine)and I wondered what the future would hold for us and our children. Now we got to see out oldest son graduate from high school this month! I feel so incredably lucky!
Take care all.

Shoppygirl, I'm doing the happy dance for both you and your husband. That is awesome news!!
