I kept busy every day. Yesterday I thought might be my rest day but I ended up going for a 35 minute bike ride late in the afternoon and then walked the dog a mere 10 minutes. He was not happy but it was darn hot. Today is slightly cooler so I walked him 20 minutes and rode my bike for 45 minutes to an hour, and did a few minutes of hedge trimming for my upper body workout.

Scottie that worked out and you are just as valuable taking photos.

Yay, ginger for a toe that feels ok and no falls! My one experience hanging with the rich was on my company VPs sailboat in San Diego. I would have loved to be a regular to that lifestyle!

Sweet now that is a great nap. The only snuggling I get from my 18 year old is if he is sick so I know how special that was.

Sloan give yourself a break. Sometimes during chemo I only wanted cheeseburgers and the next day I'd be eating broccoli salad. Just get through and do the best you can.

The weekend went fast 😂. I don't want to go back to work.

I have been trying to increase the distance of my walks without taking breaks. Today I walked 3 miles with no break...it was hot out, and the walk was hard. Not much fun. Need to work up to a steady 3.5 - 4 mi. walk without stopping - I want to sign up for a local 5K walk in late Oct. that I always used to do with my buddies, and I don't want to be struggling to finish (I've already accepted the fact that I'll be slow!).

Mysunshine - read your post about lymphedema concerns. I only had one node removed, but still nervous about lymphedema. I have flown a few times with no problems, but asked my surgeon if I should wear a sleeve and she said no, that it was not necessary. I know I'm very low risk, but I still make sure that I stretch my arm and that I get up and move around every so often. Since I'm on tamoxifen, the risk of blood clot when flying is the risk my doc seems more concerned about.

The long weekend sure did go fast. I don't want to go back to work either! Have a good week, all.

    Safe travels Lilacblue.

Cheryl, I understand the sock thing as I have done that too. I now keep an extra pair in my work laptop bag just in case. No results on the ultrasound yet but hope to hear something this week.

Sloan, I am on year 4 of my ten year Tamoxifen plan and jokingly refer to the stiff joints as the "tin man syndrome". I have found that regular exercise like walking helps ease that tremendously.

Kimi, if you can walk 3 miles now, you will be fine at the 5k. The atmosphere and energy will motivate you. I was worried when I ran my first 5k but was surprised how easy it felt. I think the atmosphere has alot to do with it.

Twohobbies, I don't want to go back to work either! Way to go on powering thru your rest day.

I did however take a rest day today and basically lounged around the pool. Will be sad to see pool season end.

    Have a good night all.

my sunshine- I do have lymphedema after having only one node removed and I have to wear compression sleeves when I fly. The pressure changes can be really uncomfortable. I have not heard of wearing them proactively though. I am sure others will probably weigh in on this.

I think walking and moving more really helps with side effects from tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors. I am like the tin man every morning with stiff jointsbut once I get going I am so much better. I do have stuck and popping finger joints at times and I can no longer snap my fingers.

Yes, I hope some of you will add information to being proactive about flying and the pressure changes after having nodes removed. I will be traveling to Oregon and on to Hawaii in a few months. I am really afraid of lymphodema. Some research says to wear a sleeve......other not, except on long trips.

I think the lymphedema thing is another one of those things that differs for everyone. I had four nodes removed and have not had any problems yet. I've flown sx different round trips this year including south Africa (approx 15 hours non-stop each way). And than again someone with just one node removed can have trouble. I'm very thankful I haven't had to deal with it, at least not yet.

Not sleeping tonight even without any naps and taking ambien + melatonin!

Mysunshine, have you asked on the Lymphedema Forum? I had most nodes removed (or all?) and had radiation so was at relatively high risk. I read that a progressive weight training program significantly reduced risk so started on one about 4 months after rads. Plus I was doing other arm exercises to help my back, chest and shoulders (had had a frozen shoulder to boot). I have flown long distance (13+ hours) multiple times since and in the beginning did get symptoms of itching and slight swelling but these would always go away shortly after flying. I would try to keep my arm(s) raised as much as possible during the flight, resting it on the head cushion and also to pump my wrists to contract the muscles. I would also do arm exercises as soon as I could after landing. Manual lymph drainage massages also help. These days my lymph flow seems to be ok and lymphedema is no longer a concern, I believe and also what the doctor told me. I do get enough upper body workouts.

I don't know if what worked for me will work for you, so best ask your doctor.

Did Pilmouth Plantation (re-created Pilgrim village), the Mayflower, Plymouth Rock etc. Since the pilgrims were one of my favorite units to teach, I wished that I could have had a bunch of students with me! Also checked out the Adams family homes, had dinner at Cheers, and drinks plus music in an Irish pub. I stay really hydrated, move my arm around a lot and get up and go to the bathroom when flying. I don't think you should wear a sleeve if you don't have LE you can do more harm than good. I can say more when I get home and am not typing on my phone

Water aerobics class full this morning (84 max) so back home to get ready for luncheon with social group I will probably stay connected with. They call themselves "Spicy Ladies" so should be fun. May swim or ride bike later. Need to also look into gyms around here since I have Silver Sneakers under my Medicare health plan.

I have flown many times in the 6 years since node removal and have not had a problem. I do stretch my arm and wrist often so hopefully that helps too.

    Later sculpted friends.

    Today: 1 hour strength training

    Tomorrow: LX. Think of me.

Regarding lymphodema, I have one doc who says to wear my sleeve 3-8 hours a day, and one doc who says I don't have it. I don't have any swelling except now. One time when I was out in the heat, it swelled a little and my elbow ached (all about 3 weeks after lumpectomy and 2 nodes removed). Then, I would get elbow aches for the next few weeks if I was busy. The ladies on the lymphedema site say those are the symptoms. So, I've compromised: I wear my sleeve when I exercise, cook, garden or drive long distances, and then not for anything else. I'll wear it on flights, and maybe I'll get a glove, too. It frightens me, too, but I've decided to manage it so it doesn't progress. Good luck.

I got my 10,000 steps in today, and now I head off to chemo #2 with an I-can-do-this attitude! Thanks for the encouragement.

I admire those of you who run. I'd love to work up to running a 5k or 10k but am satisfied with walking 4-5 miles a day right now. I think I'd feel like a beast running...ha!

Wow, everyone's so busy! Lilac - I'm way overdue for the roots and coloring appointment! Ruth - your trip sounds great - and loved the picture of Fenway! And the Irish pub sounds right up my alley. Patoo - the Spicy Ladies sound like fun! As for flying, I have LE, and use a sleeve and gauntlet when flying. Fitting of those is very tricky, and if you aren't properly fitted, as Ruth says they can do more harm than good. Heidi had great advice - if you're at risk but haven't been DX with LE, be sure to hydrate well, wear clothing that doesn't constrict the arm, and periodically raise your arm during the flight, pumping your fist a dozen or so times. Avoid lifting heavy suitcases on that side, and be careful of heavy satchel shoulder straps that can cut into the top of the shoulder and cut off circulation.

We were up at the cabin all weekend - spent Saturday doing a Clean N Sculpt workout, giving the inside a good cleaning from ceiling to floor. The cabin has a vaulted ceiling with exposed support beams, so you can imagine the cobwebs that were up there. Interesting weekend with wildlife - we had a young bear who kept coming by to try to raid the bird feeders all weekend. We'd chase him off, but a few hours later he'd try to sneak back. We take the feeders in at night so the bears don't get them, but this youngster kept coming by all day! I suspect mom kicked him out this year - they tend to stay with mom for two years, then she drives them off so she can concentrate on the next generation, and the two year olds are left wandering around trying to find their own territory. We think it's the same youngster we saw a few weeks ago - he was a bit thin then, but looks a bit more filled out now, so I think he's getting the hang of taking care of himself. We won't get a chance to get back there for a few weeks, so no feeders during that time - hopefully that will break him of the habit.

The running clinic schedule was for a 4.5 mile run this weekend, so we did that Sunday. Found a nice park with trails and beautiful ponds, complete with swans, so it was a pretty run - and yep, there were hills! We got out at 6:30am before it got too hot. We have interval training tonight - 4 miles at the local high school track with our coaches. It's in the 90's today and humid, so it's going to be another nasty night for running. I'm looking forward to the end of this weird heat wave.

This is the park we ran in - it was lovely.

Welcome to the new gals!  Delighted to see a couple more running enthusiasts out here.  Ate and drank too much over the holiday weekend but did make it to the gym every day.  Spent over an hour there yesterday.  Ran a boring but fast 5K on the treadmill, did the circuit machines, and FINISHED my Mt. Everest Challenge on the Jacobs Ladder!  So glad to be done with that.  My puppy having oral surgery today.  Hoping to get to the gym again tonight if she is doing okay.  Working from home tomorrow to keep an eye on her.  Hope everyone is having a great day!

Picture is beautiful. Would be able to walk/sprint along it but on my bike I probably would end up in the water as I have balance issues just being near a place where I might be able to fall. It's just weird.

geewhiz, Silver Sneakers is an exercise program for seniors. Under my Medicare Advantage policy (Humana) it's free access to several gyms in my area (24/7 Fitness, Curves, and another) including machines and classes.

Lunch was fun and meeting many nice people. Nice 30 min bike ride this afternoon.

    Night sculpted friends.

Hiked around my lake today after PT. I love my PT guy but man do I hurt from the ROM exercises. Gives new meaning or no pain, no gain. Made a total of 4 miles today with my hike and 25 stairs (fitbit counts hills). Had fun checking my HR on new FitbitHR during hike. Ranged from 70s up to almost 150 at top of steepest hill.

Outrunning – I'll be thinking of you, and wishing you a good outcome and speedy recovery.

LilacBlue – thank you for the welcome, and safe travels back and forth across the pond!

Odie – thanks for the words of encouragement on the 5K. I think you are right – I love this particular event, and will be jazzed by the atmosphere.

Ruth – I'm enjoying your travel updates. I love the Boston area so much!

Everyone who commented on LE and flying – thanks for the really good reminders about staying hydrated, stretching/fist pumping, not carrying heavy bags or using shoulder straps on the problem side, etc. I have a cross-country flight coming up in a couple weeks, and I will be mindful of all these things.

Today was back to work, and sort of a rest day from exercise. Did a pleasant little half-mile walk around the neighborhood at sunset. Nice…

    Goodnight, everyone!

14,000 steps touring the wonderful Kennedy Presidential Museum and walking most of the Freedom Trail. Tomorrow we will take a water taxi out to Bunker Hill and the Constitution stuff. Then being out of both time and money, we will fly home. Won't be in my house until about midnight. Talk to you Thursday!

Ruth, did you go by the cemetery at Old North Church? Did you see the skinny house? A.k.a. The Spite House.

I stayed there with friends a couple years ago. Friends I met online, :) (Baby Center board for ladies over 35 having babies in sept of 06.) One night we were having wine in the second floor living room and looked out to find a tour in the cemetery across the road was looking at us as the guide talked about the house.

Story goes the land was left to two brothers. One went away for a extended period as people did in those days. He returned to find his brother had built a house on almost all the land. So he built a house on what was left completely blocking his brothers view of the bay.

At the back of the house the width is just enough to out a bed with head at one wall and foot at the other. The rest isn't much wider.

Four mile interval running last evening during the track workout in hot and humid weather. This running clinic is tough, but oh so good for me. Then came home and watched my Nats totally collapse against the Mets. Ugh.

Yesterday took the dog for a much needed hike. About 40 minutes with lots of hills, not sure of mileage. Then made it to the gym for a Ujam class even though my back was aching quite a bit. I'm hoping it's not the Tamoxifen kicking in....maybe not as it has hurt on and off in the past. I think it is time for a new mattress-- maybe that will help! Took a few advil before bed and it's fine this morning.

Today it's 103 out and I didn't make it to the gym this morning. So we'll see if I manage any exercise at all today!

Outrunning. . .hope you have a swift recovery.

Ruth. . .sounds like you're having a great time.

So I asked my daughter how she did yesterday with my Fitbit Charge. She said she got only 15,000 steps because she had to take it off during the part of soccer practice when it was raining. She figures the rain cheated her out of at least 5,000 more steps. And she got 25 stairs yesterday. She will definitely NOT BE on my FitbitHR challenge list. Lol

Gym today 4 miles and leg weights. Still no arm lifting although PT is really helping nerve pain. I get massage and muscle stim with my PT
