Reoccurance from neg to pos, to tam or not to tam

Options

I was shocked to have the onc recommend doing tam with neg ER/PR. Has anyone with ER-/PR- gotten another cancer that was ER+/PR+?

I do not like how the % get thrown around and twisted, taken out of context with different studies. There are so many factors and too hard to nail down the "root cause". It is very frustrating to get true reliable information.

The onc wants to put me on tam, er-/pr-. Which is surprising to me.

My cousin had triple negative bc, then had a recurrence (caught early) that was slightly er+, I think she said it was 15%, so now she takes tamox. But she didn't take tamox before the recurrence.

It sounds like this is an initial diagnosis for our original poster. Perhaps the doctor plans that tamoxifen will stop other mutant cells that might feed on estrogen from becoming established and causing a second malignancy. Is there family history of any cancer? That may be another factor: if a genetic predisposition is suspected, the med would be more for chemo prevention than treatment of the current situation.

It would help to see what the pathology report showed in terms of percentage - with so few alternatives for hormone negative disease, even a small amount of susceptability could be enough reason to try endocrine therapy. Should side effects prove to be too much, you can always quit.

Looks like jojo had double mastectomy almost a year ago. With a cousin affected also, maybe a hereditary basis has been investigated, depending on how young theywere/are...

good morning! I just had a regional reaccurance to the nodes in supracavicular area and the receptors changed from TNBC to ER positive. My doctors say it's not operable and have decided to give me Tamoxafin ( not sure about my spelling). No chemo scares me any advice?

I'm confused by the subject line; it sounds like the recurrence is ER/PR+ and that's why the MO is suggesting tamoxifen.

I agree with others, maybe time for a second (or even third?) opinion.

This doesn't replace a doctor, but Cancer Math has some info
