Risks of stopping Tamoxifen for pregnancy
Hello,
Does anyone know of research on effects of interrupting Tamoxifen for pregnancy? I'm considering stopping at my two year mark and then going back on after pregnancy is over.
Thank you!

Hi Tina,
I'm in the exact same boat. Unfortunately there is no good research to support doing this. Current research shows there's no increased risk of recurrence for those who get pregnant after breast cancer. But in terms of what happens if you're on Tamoxifen, and then stop to get pregnant, and how that affects risk -- no one really knows. There is a study that's currently underway looking at women with hormone receptor–positive breast cancer and whether it is safe to interrupt endocrine therapy to have a pregnancy. It's called the "Positive Study." But of course the results won't be available until long after we need them! Still good to know that future women will have these answers though... hopefully.
Anyway, feel free to message me if you ever want to talk more as this is something I'm currently right in the thick of now in my own life. I am 30 yrs old FYI.

I once saw this book at the library. I just flipped through it (did not read) but FYI in case it helps. Good luck. What a tough situation.

Thank you, Youngwithbc and peggyj for these posts. It is so nice to connect with people like you. Youngwithbc, you confirmed things I'd been hearing as well, and peggyj thanks for the book suggestion--very helpful. My doctor did say that they are starting to recommend women stay on Tamoxifen for 10 rather than 5 years, and so it is worth considering that taking a break wouldn't be as large of an interruption in a 10 year versus 5 year course of treatment. But everyone's cancer is different, so you have to decide what is best for you. I wish the very best to you both.

Thanks Tina, you too! Keep me posted and let me know what you decide.

a bit late but I stopped tamoxifen and zoladex in March after two years. Got my first period mid June, second mid July and now I'm pregnant. (Holy shit!!) Will go back on hormone therapy to compete the five years after giving birth.
All the best

Dear Kiwikid:
I'm thrilled for your news! That's wonderful. After a lot of thinking on this and mainly because I'm older and so trying to get pregnant would be tough for me, I've decided to go the adoption route. But thanks for sharing and I wish you and your family the best. What a precious gift after all you've been through!
Best
Tina
