edited August 2015 in Stage II Breast Cancer

hello out there! This is my first time posting in a group like this so hopefully I am in the right place! I was diagnosed with stage 2 HER2+ breast cancer almost a year ago. I went through the 6 cycles of taxotere, carboplatin and herceptin and I am down to just the herceptin once every three weeks now until December. Since going to just the herceptin I have had diarrhea and loss of appetite to the point where I have lost about 20 pounds. My oncologist seems to think this is a latent effect of the taxo and carbo but I am reluctant to believe that. I had a colonoscopy and ct scan no sign of trouble in intestines so not sure what is going on but very frustrating. Feel like I can't leave the house for fear of having a bathroom emergency. Anyone else have this problem?

I had Big D issues throughout TCH which continued on Herceptin only infusions until I started a probiotic. Made a world of difference and was recommended by one of the infusion room nurses. Might be worth a try - wishing you the best

SpecialK thank you so much for your response, I was starting to think I was going crazy because everyone says Herceptin is so easy to tolerate. Do you remember which probiotic you took?

    Thanks!

I am hopeful that things will get easier as far as tolerating Hepceptin once your GI situation is better. I actually first tried Phillips Colon Health and did well with it, I got it mainly because it was readily available at the drug store or grocery store, and I was fried from surgery and chemo, lol! I also tried Culturelle but it gave me nausea. A lot of people use Florastor too, but I have not tried it myself.

I recommend the probiotic too. I feel sick to my stomach which I guess isn't typical? Anyway, I hope the probiotic helps and stay hydrated!
