Aww Ginger sorry about the toe but great that you ended up doing so well on the swim and your teams placing. Congratulations Outrunning, you are 'the little engine that could'. Welcome Kiki. Wonderland I haven't noticed the days drawing in yet but now you've said it I'm going to start watching. Karen 15K steps a day is fabulous. Ruth/Badger this one is for you - by any chance can you remember the name of the pizza restaurant we went to when we were in Chicago? I've been racking my brain but it comes up empty (no snickering).
Friday night I went to Zumba, Saturday did Grit Cardio at one gym then off to another and did Cycle (Eduardo says 'hey' Ruth) I did have grand plans today but I ended up doing the same as TwoHobbies, I worked in the garden weeding and picking flowers and cleaning up the dreaded Bougainvilla, that blasted thing has long deadly thorns, drops flowers and is generally messy as all get up. Then I treated myself to a massage, an instructor I know has her own massage studio and even though I booked an hour massage she worked in me for almost 2 hours, have been having trouble with my right shoulder and she really worked out all the kinks and now I'm feeling very mellow.

Hello all and thank you for the kind welcome! It's very motivating to read your posts.
I'm happy to report that I met my weekend goals: walked 2.5 miles yesterday and did a 20-minute pilates for beginners workout video. Today I walked 2.5 miles again and pulled weeds (which must count for something). It's true that it's just a matter of that first small step.
Monday is usually my rest day from walking, so I think I will do either a yoga video or some light strength training. OK, now that I've put it in writing, I will report back!
Have a great week, everyone.
-
Ginger- sorry about your toe, but your Dr sounds great!
Welcome Kiki!
Hbcheryl and Ruthbru- I love the variety of classes you take! I will try some classes when I begin at the gym again, as you have inspired me.
I walked 5.5 miles today.
Tomorrow is the first day of school for my kids. One will begin jr high and the other high school. It will be a big day for all of us
-
Welcome to our new exercise friends!!
Congrats on the triathlon Ginger! Great job.
Cheryl, glad your massage worked out all the kinks.
Had high hopes for exercise this weekend before our air-conditioner died. Luckily it was a warm but not overly humid. Looks like I might end up missing a bootcamp class later this week while having the ac replaced. I did manage a walk yesterday and weeded the flower beds as well as washed the car today.
Am super excited about our local panda twins.
-
Thanks everyone. I am lucky that my doctor is also a great friend
Outrunning- congrats on your PB; that's awesome!
Today we spent the last day of summer vacation on a friend's boat. We did some kayaking and I got to sit and read my book while elevating my foot.
Tomorrow, I start my 31st year of teaching. 29 have been in the same classroom. Time to get a good night's sleep.
-
Ginger: Congratulations! And what a great day to have before you go back to school.
Odie: Yikes on your ac. Hope it gets replaced soon.
Cheryl: Glad your massage worked for your shoulder.
Kiki: Don't you just love it when you reach your goal?
Walked/ran this evening.
-
Good work, Kiki!
Annie, yes try some classes. I find it more motivating when I mix things up, and I work harder and have more fun when I'm with other people. Good luck to your kids tomorrow. Scary and exciting both when you are moving to a whole new level.
Have a good first day tomorrow too, Ginger. As a retired teacher, I am kind of jealous of all the beginning of the year excitement you will be having. In fact, last week I brought some cookies over to my school librarian friend (she starts a week before everyone else does) and then helped her laminate and cut out some posters just for the heck of it.
-
I love walking, too!! I go to the gym downstairs at least once a week!! I walked a lot this weekend!!
Hope everyone had a great weekend! 😃😃😃
-
Ginger, well done and have a terrific start tomorrow. Take good care Mary, welcome to Kiki and Scottie, do check out special programs in your area. Cheryl, good that you shifted the shoulder with massage.
Been stepping, body balancing/flowing and dodging rain. August has been wet here with the odd summer day here and there. Have cover classes this week and looking for an outfit to take on a quick in/out to the states for niece's wedding. I've got my place at OneLive Stockholm in October for BB #71 filming-this should be interesting. Have a good start to the week everyone.
-
Ginger ---YAY!!! That is so exciting. Good for you for finding a way around the toe! teamwork!!
Some day I want to do a tri. Definite bucketlist item. I just bought Total Immersion swimming book. I practiced it last year - helps a lot.
I am right now focused on completing my first half marathon. Hubby got me a Garmin gps running watch which I used yesterday. I thought I had run REALLY far until I got home and realized it was set to kilometres and not miles, LOL!!! So I ran about 5.11 miles yesterday/ I was also surprised how slow I go, Sheesh!
-
Ginger - I was so devastated when I read that you couldn't do all of your tri, but that I was so excited to read that you got a relay team together at the last minute, and still were able to participate. And not only did you do a PB on your swimming, but your team took 3rd. What a way to make lemonade out of lemons - congratulations!!
Scottie - our panda team is using a lot of the knowledge gained in raising your Atlanta twin pandas now that we have twins too. So far so good for the new babies, but the first few weeks of a baby panda's life are very iffy. So we're all keeping our fingers crossed. And it was our other panda's 2nd birthday yesterday - BaoBao. She's quite the accomplished young panda - she even has her own Twitter account - @BaoBaoPanda.
Geewhiz - LOL on the Garmin being set to Ks, not miles! I did my first half a few years ago - my advice would be that you don't worry about speed, just work on endurance. And don't skip those weekly long slow runs - as you gradually increase the distance, that's where you work out all those little things, like hydration, what gels or other energy stuff you like/tolerate, what clothing works best for you, dealing with muscle cramps, etc.
Outrunning - congrats on the PB!
Badger - I had tix for yesterday's Nats-Badgers game but couldn't go because of my eye - it's still painfully photosensitive, and there was no way I could be outside in a sunny ballpark all day. Looked like a good game too (at least for Nats fans).
No exercise this weekend except puttering around the house with the drapes closed and the lights off. I felt like a mole or a vampire! I did get a lot of little things off the to-do list, so it actually ended up being a pretty productive weekend. I have a follow up appt with the ophthalmologist this afternoon, so hopefully she can give me an idea of how long this thing will take till I'm OK being outside again.
-
Reading and catching up with everyone. Finally got back on track with cycling, doing 65+ miles over the weekend. I ended up not doing yesterday's group ride as a hoard of cyclists showed up and I needed to chill. So up the Centennial Trail as opposed to doing hills while dodging cyclists and potholes. Learned that one casualty of the heat was a batch of IPA that I sampled at a Tap Room. Aftertaste was like pine pitch, not the warm, mellow finish I expected. The owner gave me a glass of something much better and a taste of the new batch which should be just delicious.
Carpet cleaners come today so will be moving furniture in a bit. One task I try to get done when you can leave everything wide open. White carpets are not a shade I would choose, but they do look lovely when freshly done.
Very smoky from the North Cascades fires. Clearer this AM with the wind shift to the SW.
Busy week ahead. Need to plan a cycling adventure for the next 2 weeks. Not sure what. But summer is a-waning, and don't quite have my adventure quota in. Perhaps a cycle-and-taste of Bainbridge Island. Easy to get to, and one on my list. Time for an online search.
And time to get it in gear as need to write a bio for the founder of the nonprofit. - Claire

Yoga & Zumba

First day back at work since EX. Then gym for about 45 minutes. 3 miles. I'm beat. Hope I don't hurt like heck tomorrow.
Scottie
-
This morning I mowed for about 2 hours. Then I waked/ran in the evening. Sleep tight everyone!
-
LB sooo happy you got a ticket for Stockholm, envious Haha Geewhiz don't you hate when that happens... Mary hope your eye appointment went well. Annie I started out with one class then I found my confidence and now I try anything and always give a class a couple of goes to see if you like it and I like the camaraderie I have found in classes.
Did Cardio Dance Party tonight then over to Costco cause they need my money
-
Scottie - our panda babies are still hanging in there. Both are apparently quite vocal and active, which they've said is an excellent sign.
Claire - those fires look awful. Be careful out there!
I ended up with emergency eye surgery last night - the ophthalmologist did not like the way things were healing up, so sent me to a surgical ophthalmologist who operated immediately. I'd had Lasik surgery about 15 years ago, and apparently when I poked the eye, I dislodged the edge of the corneal flap, allowing fluid and matter to build up underneath the flap. The flap had already resealed over, so there was no place for all that stuff to go. The eye surgeon basically had to re-open the edge of the flap, clear out all the fluid and debris, then smooth it down. Quite exciting to say the least! But my eye does seem much better this morning - I'm wearing some kind of post-surgical oversize contact lens to protect the surface and it doesn't hurt as much. The dr wants no running until at least my follow up tomorrow. Never rains but it pours . . . .
-
-
Yikes and yuck, Mary! Hope you have enough painkillers. Ginger, congrats on such a great finish! LB, let us know how we can get to watch your film. So cute, Socal!
BodyJam yesterday, Zumba tonight, Tango tomorrow.
-
I am back after 3 weeks off recuperating from TE surgery. 45 minute walk--slow and easy, but felt pretty tired afterwards. It does feel good to be moving again.
Did anybody here do yoga or lift weights with TEs in? I feel like that area is very tight, and I don't want to hurt my skin.
-
Katcar, I did both. It did feel weird, and years alter it still feels weird a lot. I didn't do heavy weights that I thought might cause any issues but I did stick with a rather vigorous hot yoga class several times a week. No problems!!
-
Good to know, Geewiz! I guess I'll adjust--another "new normal" thing. I want to go back to my yoga and strength building classes. I cannot stand the way my body looks right now.
-
Nothing yesterday as it was the first day of school and getting two kids there was more then enough work.
Today lunchtime yoga (50 min). We have a class that meets downstairs in the multipurpose room. It is an awesome benefit.
Sorry about the eye Mary. Hope it heals quickly now.
-
Youch Mary! Take it easy and don't dislodge anything!
Cardio Sculpt this morning. The new fall schedule is listed & they are adding a new class called Barre which "combines the principles of ballet, pilates and yoga". Sounds interesting!
-
I hope that eye is feeling better - yikes!
Ruthbru, I have not tried Barre, but I have heard they are intense. They are next door to FlyWheel
in my town, which is a cardiocycle class. Our Barre classes are run by the same folks. Please let us know if you go to one!
It should have been an easy day - 3 mile jog but for some reason I really struggled and started walking at about 2.5 miles. I woke up for no reason at 4am today and I started doing some floorwork yesterday so maybe that was it. It's a bit of a bummer, first time I fell off training target goals in about 5 weeks. Oh well, listen to your body right? Mine is saying NAP TIME.
-
Nats: So glad you had your eye surgery! Hoping it heals quickly. (Hug)
Socal: Cute pictures! I could just squeeze those pandas.
katcar: Sounds like you are taking things nice and easy. Hang in there!
geewhiz: Mine body tends to say Nap Time also.
Just returned from my walk/run.
-
Quick check in. 42 minute walk. It was cool today so I ran five times during that walk for about 1.5 minutes each time. Running isstill hard and not fun. Then I came home and walked the dog for 17 minutes.
-
Hi all,
Scottie - hope you are feeling good after your first day back at work and that big workout afterward.
Two Hobbies - way to go. That is a long walk/run.
Yesterday I finally re-started the upper body strengthening program that they gave me in PT. Today not very motivated, but did go walk a mile after work.
Had no idea I would still be so low-energy, 8 months after lumpectomy and rads. Must be the tamoxifen (I blame it for everything else lately!)
This is a great thread. You all really do inspire me.
-
Kiki, I think it took me two years to feel normal/normal.
-
Hi everyone I've been MIA as I had dental work done Friday, with infection, etc. So was told to lay off exercise ( which was necessary ) but boy was I glad to get out today and walk for 30 minutes. I am also down 7.2 lbs since starting this process after rads.
Was also encouraged by the comments about how very long it can take to get energy back.
As Kiki said this is a great thread. I read your posts while resting and it keeps me going too.
