Exercise and well being during chemo and radiation

Allison, I did the same thing after my lumpectomy and after the port installation. I will admit the first bike ride after port placement I went slow and expected an alien to pop out of my chest! I figure they get people up moving right after heart bypass surgeries, so what's the big deal!

I've fallen off the exercise wagon since the weekend. I haven't been sleeping well and I've been waking up cranky and lacking the motivation for a morning walk. Too hot when I get home from work- so many excuses!
I'm still being very careful with my diet and logging my calories on the fitbit at least. I hope by admitting to you all that I've been slacking i will find the self-discipline to get some miles logged this week. I really want to lower my BMI into that recommended zone!
-
Thanks, Katy - that's exactly what I did. Now I just have to show up this afternoon. Thanks so much for your support.

I too feel like I've fallen off the exercise wagon. Will be 2 weeks post rads this Friday and still have so much fatigue, it almost feels like it's getting worse. Or maybe it's the Arimidex, which I've been on two weeks. Maybe I'm just making excuses! It's been so hard to get motivated, but I know if I get moving it will help.
This am...32 min T @ 2.8-3.3 = 1.51 mi
Will try hard to walk this pm too. Sigh I just feel so tired...

PB, good for you! Slow still counts!
I had radiation this morning, and I've got contractors in the house and then a meeting at work, so I won't be exercising until later today. Since there are heat and air quality warnings, it's another day inside on the treadmill. I'm thinking of setting it to a level incline and low speed, and reading while I walk for a couple of hours.
-
PB- brava for getting a good workout in. Considering how you are feeling, that was huge!
Rest is important too. I know you will reap the benefits of what you have done this morning.
-
And water remains a miracle cure for SEs.
-
walked about a mile. First half right up that hill I couldn't face on Sunday! Getting hot now. Think I'll have some water.....
This was the view from the top.
-
Katy, what a beautiful shot. Well worth the walk, I'd say!
Sloth, pboi, and others: I too have fallen off the exercise wagon these past couple of days. Combo of heat and, I am sorry to say, a couple of nasty days with very big D. I'm pretty annoyed: I had this in the beginning, then that particular SE went away for several weeks. It's only a morning thing, but it makes me feel very cautious about being more than, say, 20 feet from a rest room. Which definitely puts a crimp in my outdoor walking.
Hoping the Scarlett O'Hara philosophy will do the trick: tomorrow is another day!
-
Turn up the rock n roll adn dance in your living room! No shirt needed! Close to bathrooms!
-
Got called into work a few times today, so I did my minimum which is a 3 mile walk. Tomorrow may be a crazy day too. I need more hours in my day this next week
-
I'm about to get on the treadmill. I'm listening to I Am Malala and it's a great reminder of how much privilege I have as a woman in this country.
-
Two miles this morning. No energy tonight. Post rads fatigue still hitting heavily. Wish that damn fatigue truck would break down and leave me alone!
-
ksusan, great suggestion on the dance! My husband and I do that, taking turns picking songs, until we are worn out sometimes. Yeah, we are silly that way. But it is great stress relief and we laugh and laugh. And practice our geek moves, no dance contest winners here!
24.6 miles, 1550 feet climbing, 1,020 calories burned. Sorry my rides seem monotonous exercise, but I can't seem to change the mileage on the bike loop we do lol. But I did have five medals today which means on five segments I had my first, second or third fastest time ever. A few were first places. Feeling strong, just in time for Herceptin on Friday to knock me back down. I definitely feel some effects from it when I ride, lasts about a week. But hey, I will take the medals and keep on!
Katy, beautiful pic!

Topless dancing might freak out the 15-year-old DS! Good thing he's got a job and is out of the house several hours a day.
-
lmfao. Well, wear a robe or something haha! Get creative. One woman on our March chemo forum was so tiny she could wrap herself in a large scarf, made her look totally exotic!
-
Not much today. I spent a lot of time driving trying to find survey units. Then I got a call from the hospital and went straight to crazy town while I drove around trying to find cell service and see what they wanted. I was sure they had found something on the CT scan for radiation. Nope, they just wanted me to come in for xrays on Friday so they could get me in and out quicker on Monday. So yay! That still funky and head and stomache too. Wonder if it's the smoke?
-
T- that same someone is having surgery this week too, I think. Sad she had to leave but I guess it makes it harder for some. To talk about it. Anyway, thoughts and mojo going out to B tonight.
-
yes Katy, I think on the 20th. I hope she comes back after surgery, she was such a part of our group. I have seen her a bit on Facebook, so at least we can keep contact there. I miss her too, she was always practical and positive. And hilariously funny sometimes
-
Thanks for the encouragement Ksusan and Katy.
Walked another 1.5 mi this evening, for total of 3 miles today. Crawling back up the exercise band wagon...need to hold on tighter this time.
Know I'll fall off the wagon again, and thankful you ladies are always here to encourage me to get back in again 😊

Dedication to my exercise and well being sisters
Nice playlist KSusan. Here's a dedication from me to all of you. Keep up the great work!
-
I don't know what is going on with B but I'm putting good vibes out there for her as well.
-
Sending out good vibes to B as well!

Yesterday >8k steps, 60 active minutes. I haven't been to the gym in a bit but do some outdoorsy volunteer work which counts. I'm going hiking today with a friend. I need to jack up my juicing again - blood work came back that I'm low in potassium. Doc visit also confirmed I'm down almost 4 lbs from my highest weight which was in June. yay! Perhaps soon my shorts will fit!
-
yay for 8k steps!
A hike sounds nice.
Have a great day, E!

I
Why am I so tired? Almost 5 weeks PFT, but still very weak some days. I am supposed to be getting ready for my MO appt. to go over blood work and bone density test, but am so tired ans do not want to get out of this recliner.
-
Lynn- So good to see you!
What you are feeling is not abnormal. I was told it would be six weeks PFC BEFORE I STARTED to feel better. As everyone here knows, I had some false starts and frustrations along the way. Thinking I was getting stronger then falling.
I think all of us feel or have felt the way you are now. Do not despair! Listen to your body. But know that even a tiny walk to the mailbox, or to the corner and back, is something. And every little something will build onto the something before and help you feel better.
There is no shame in feeling tired 5 weeks PFC. There also seems to be a bit of an emotional slump that hits when treatment is finished. Don't beat yourself up. Hang with us here and we will cheer every step you make. And when you can't, you can't. No guilt, no shame.
-
Thanks, Katy. Still sitting here, but have to get up and get ready. Also need to go to the grocery store to get some food in the house. Ohhhhhhhh I just want to take a nap
-
5 mile walk today; 15 minute per mile pace. I would have like to have added a mile of running but my feet have been burning and sore lately with neuropathy, so I thought I would not push it.
