ksusan, haha! Guess great minds think alike! Your wife must be a smart one!

Katy, love the Justin's peanut butter things. They are amazing, and you have to work them for awhile before you can swallow them down. Great treat to eat on the way home from the grocery store, because it takes me that long to eat it. Good job on the walk, it all counts!

I want my Hershey's bar to be the one with almonds. So darn good!

Rainny- Thanks for that reminder. It seems I am talking myself down off the ledge of guilt on almost a daily basis. As I have mentioned, I now give the stink eye to most foods, water, skin products, and more. It seems during surgery they hard wired me to think twice about every single thing I come across in my life. And wonder if I caused bc by eating or using it, and feeling guilty. Or looking at the things that maybe I should be changing and feeling I'm inviting a recurrence. And feeling guilty.

I think K and T have said it right. Logically, I know that they speak truth, and it is wise to follow their advice. Somedays I do a better job than others of not blaming myself anyway.

All this talk of the earthquake preparedness reminds me of the time I lived in LA with a boyfriend and I said we should make a kit. So he went out on his own and spent a fortune on SPAM. I was like, seriously? I wouldn't eat SPAM normally so why would I eat it after a quake? I still laugh at that one.

oh but it's considered such a delicacy in some countries! Har. It probably has carcinogens. Seems a likely candidate.

    Spam

If I ever need a quick buck I'll stuff a few suitcases with it. Smuggle it in somewhere instead of cocaine,It's quite expensive in some countries in the Far East, as its imported, and I've seen pictures of Christmas displays from floor to ceiling.

And, knowing how my mind works, you had to know the above link was coming.

I love fried Spam, but my wife doesn't. Picture us in the ruins of civilization eating tuna.

Sorry, all - Katy's right, it was all very firmly tongue in cheek. I KNOW that eating Hershey's doesn't prevent cancer. Now, Toblerone - that's still being studied in this household, anyway.

Theresa - thanks for the heads up on the water pod. I'm going to look into that and suggest we add it to our neighborhood's recommended supply list.

All my steps yesterday (around 11.5K) were 'functional fitness' - errands, household, etc. Today may end up being the same, as I'm bored with my bike this weekend...

ok, all the tongue in cheek aside, I'll admit it: I don't get the water pod. Is the idea that you fill it with water from the bathtub faucet post earthquake? But...what if the pipes burst? Isn't the fact that there isn't necessarily going to be potable water the reason to store water?

I guess I could go on Amazon and check it out, but then I'd be tempted to buy too many other things. Bad enough that all this talk of chocolate has me inhaling chocolate ice cream. Which is enough exercise today when it is 105 outside. 1500 steps so far today more or less. I really am trying not to do guilt!

    Have a good afternoon, all.

    Octogirl.

I think the pod's probably more useful if you know a hurricane is coming, for example. Or a fire. Or there's still water service after an earthquake but you think, hmm, what about aftershocks?

My wife says she's never thought about most of this. I replied that she doesn't read nearly as much post-apocalyptic science fiction as I do.

ok, the hurricane part makes sense to me....and now that I think about it, those of us on the edge of Crazytown could probably think of all types of apocalyptic scenarios where we'd need it.....

It's the 100 gallons of Aquaphor that's the storage problem!

Lol Ksusan, you are so funny! No, no, no!!! Not that much Aquaphor!

Though to have you and your wife prepared as quickly as possible, I'm visualizing Amazon Prime delivering it to your house in two days, and what 100 gallons of that sticky stuff would look like at delivery!😳

I at barbecue marinated spam sushi yesterday, it was delicious. My daughter in laws family is from Hawaii and they prepared a bunch of traditional Hawaiian dishes at my grand daughters birthday party. Funny thing is she is a green eyed skinny blonde, so doesn't fit my image of Hawaii. I'll add Spam to the list of things I ate that caused breast cancer (sarcasm). Oh, did I say she is super skinny, and here I am all chemo fat! Little brat!

We got our water pod during all the Ebola craziness, I hang my head in shame. Yeah, I'm into the post apocalyptic scenarios too, ksusan. But seriously, if something happens like an earthquake, we are downhill from our water source so we should be able to quickly fill it up.

I do have water and food stuff in my garage too. Just sayin'. And a water purifier. And we have talked about how to de-salinate ocean water.

3 mile walk today. Too hot and doggie was too tired in the heat. Yeah, Us southern Californians are wimps. Temp hits 80 degrees + and we fall apart.

And Aquaphor, don't start me on that. I have to use it on my granddaughter's eczema, that stuff never comes off!

I wonder how much coconut oil we should set by, in lieu of aquaphor? Is not aquaphor a petroleum product? Just wondering

9 miles of bushwhacking today. Oh yeah, send the broken firefighter to escort the cancer archeologist. Hahaha I will bet money we Hiked farther than anyone else on the whole fire!

On the chicken god- do we sacrifice Hershey bars to it? Or aquaphor? Or giant water pods? I'm confused, but I'm definitely in, especially if ksusan, katie, and Theresa will be the high priestesses....

If it's a global warming apocalypse, Seattle should be a perfect growth zone for coconut palms.

Since I didn't reconstruct, I can sub in for the high priest, too, if that's useful. I myself have no idea what chicken god we're taking about, but I hope if I keep nodding and smiling they'll let me into the armed bunker.

Ha! I did see his bus up near Fairbanks. Nope I like my warm bed and my cats way to much. Besides, if cancer didn't get me and bleeding out didn't get me, I'm pretty sure my number just isn't up yet. As to why that may be....may drive me back to philosophy, church, or drink!

Also, live to 100 and die of something else, right? Second choice, die of something else. Even if that something else is a bear or my possibly homicidal RO. ;)

With all the talk about plastic containers, whst about bottled water? I drink it, but now worry about drinking it once it has set out for awile. An I being silly? So, what water do we drink? Big glass pitcher in the refrigerator and use glass glasses? I do get it about heating food up in the microwave in plastic containers, but what about food storage. Like many of you, I have every Tupperware item ever made. So, now donI pack it all up and cart it off to Good Will?

No real exercise for me today. Just tired! I was so proud of me yesterday.....treadmill and bike. And no nap. Then, today, I was just so tired.....two hour nap. I want to feel good! Also, sanyone get out of breath easily? I used to go, go, go and now get winded walking any faster than 2 mph!

[Husband] now looking at me askance: I think he's afraid I'm going to fill one bathtub with Aquaphor and the other with Spam leaving nothing for the Zombie Apocalypse. But back to exercise....
