Chrissy, DH and I drove from Nice to Paris many years ago and loved every moment. I think there is no bad food in France. Outside of Paris, the people were very friendly. Inside Paris, they are big city folks and in a hurry. We visited Monet's garden in Giverney (sp) and found it fascinating. We bought a calendar that had a photo taken each week in the garden. I still take it out every few years and go thru the weeks of photos.
-
Wren, while we are in Paris we plan on just exploring the city by using their daily public transport pass so we can get on and off buses and trains whenever the mood takes us and if we get lost in the process we will have an adventure....lol. I'm so looking forward to really checking out the country side and those beautiful little villages as well.
-
Love the Loire Valley and Mont ST. Michel too
so many things to see, lucky you

Hello everyone, I've been very busy here.
The contractor and his wife are driving everyone crazy. They are under the gun for the deadline for getting the house and yard ready for the wedding. I am having to cajole all the workers every day to stay on the job and please finish for me. She is a real perfectionist and wants to be in control. The painting crew has done work for me before, I had to say, please let the paint guy pick out the stain and do his job. It's taken 3 weeks, when he told them in the beginning what would work, but they kept trying to hire other painters, and no one wants to work for them. The issue is trying to match the old paneling to the new wood or vice versa. Finally today the stain was going on, the floors are going to get done next week, so it really is almost there.
Then the other drama is my 100 year old aunt decided to move out of her house. I went over to check on her last week. I noticed some furniture was missing so I asked what was going on and she said she was moving and wasn't going to tell me where. I was really shocked. She said she didn't like how her sons were trying to control her. They are only looking out for her and trying to help her be safe in her house. She told me not to tell them. I immediately came home and called them. Then she wouldn't answer her cell phone, so we had to communicate by email. So she's been "missing" for over a week. Her sons are so upset and hurt. She is somewhere with that guy she calls her caretaker. Now today I got an email from her saying that she is probably going to be moving back to her house, but I should call before stopping by. It is all very confusing. And of course I am caught in the middle since I live here and her sons do not. Also I am going to be living right next door. The family has always just hopped from house to house without thinking twice about stopping by to see one another. Oh well.
I am certainly not bored.
-
Oh my goodness Nancy! What dramas! As you are poo ayinfcthe bills I think I would be telling that contractors wife to stay away from the job......that sort of person really gets me angry.
Oh that poor old lady, i sure hope her 'carer' is not trying to take advantage........but I did have a little chucke, I think she thinks she is still in her prime. ......lol.
Keeping my fingers crossed that it all gets done and the wedding goes off without a hitch.
As you say, no time for boredom in your life.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Nancy what a mess...sure hope you get all the work done, with your people
not much going on around here other than to get some bids for work to be done here...and waiting to see the surgeon about my arm. I am really positive I need the surgery. This brace I have had for five plus months and it is getting old and heavy. I even have to sleep with it. Only time off is the shower..guess I forgot my bone stimulator today.. Yikes...it is 8:30 and I need it on for 3 hours...

Chrissy: Now you can count the days for fun stuff ahead - so great!

Lisa: Even with the similar colors the hummer's irridescent colors come through
-
love love the pic of the little hummer.
chrissy, the countdown begins.
So I saw my MO on friday. I thought we would have a conversation about me stopping tamoxifen, but I think she was having a bad day. She said she understood about why I wouldn't want to continue, but at "my age" the tami was not affecting my uterus. Then she made a comment about me having my QOL now instead of later. She did say I have a small risk of recurrence anyway so...... But I left the office feeling unsettled, like she was dissappointed in me. She did a phsyical exam and said there were a couple of spots she didn't like the feel of, so made me promise to keep my Dec. appt with BS and mammogram machine. Then she said she didn't need to see me as often so make an appt for a year from now. I have gotten over it by now. And am feeling more settled about the decision. But did not get any warm and fuzzies from her at all.
It's all just a gamble isn't it. She said that if a recurrence does occur, to not blame her.
-
What yucky statements from your doctor. I would feel unsettled too. Sounds like she's just covering her butt.
-
Thanks Lisa, you are right, covering her butt. Felt like she wasn't so concerned about me. Now I have a good amount of time to find a new MO.
-
Nancy, she was drfinitely covering her butt. Having said that, it's all a gamble even while taking meds........the best thing to do is go and enjoy your life doing all the things you want to and if the bottle spin stops at you you can go with the flow knowing you have done it all and have no regrets.
No one likes the idea of BC returning but it is infortunately and statistically a 30% probability and something we live with forever once we are dx.
Now, on a different note, how are those renos going and when is that wedding?
Love n hugs. Chrissy
-
Yes, Chrissy, now that the decision is made I can go on. I am learning to not even mention it to "regular" people, they don't get it.
So onto the wedding and moving in. They put the final coat on the floors yesterday, so no work for a few days. Can't walk on them til they are sealed. The carpenters are working on the outdoor shower and steps from the doors.
My DS was down over the weekend and spoke to the bride and groom, so he feels better about how the ceremony is going to go. It will come together. I am having a landscaper come over today to see what we can get cleaned up and spruced up. It will be difficult until the dumpster and storage pod are moved off the property.
I'll post some pictures.
-
my bedroom looking toward the master bath. I love the color of the floor. It use to be a orange color.
-
front entrance there will be side lights beside the door, but they won't get here until mid Sept.

I had some tiles my grandmother painted set into the kitchen back splash

Wow Nancy!! That is stunning! ! Love the wall color and the refinished floors are just fab! I can imagine it all furnished and you living there. .......what a lucky girl you are!.
This week will be my final week with DD and the boys. She is to a stage that she needs to begin to do for herself. I will worry but I also know that it's the right thing to do.
Just three more weeks until we leave on our trip.........we are getting excited. ......lol.......and I can't wait to have a rest!
Take care all!! Chrissy
-
Nancy, it looks gorgeous!
Chrissy, I'm looking forward to your pictures from the trip. Notice I didn't say "Will you post pictures?". I know you'll do it for us!
Right now I'm feeling stressed and sad. My Rabbi (of over 30 years) is in the ICU. It seems that some bacteria obstructed his breathing and spread through his body. Surgery was done to clear the breathing passages and he was in an induced coma. They were able to bring him out of the coma for a while today and he was aware of his surroundings and what was going on but it's still a difficult situation. It's another reminder of how fragile life is. I saw him at a wedding Thursday night. He didn't feel very well then and was taken to the hospital Friday night.
Leah
-
Leah, oh how sad that your dear rabbi is struggling so. We truly never know what will happen to change our lives in such a brief amount of time.
-
Oh Leah how terribly sad......I do so hope that he recovers. Yes, you are so right, life is very fragile and none of us knows what tomorrow will bring.
I will definitely post pics for you all to see. I am making sure I have international roaming on my phone so i can keep everyone up to date.
Love n hugs all! Chrissy

Got the go ahead to start moving stuff in this weekend. Exciting and overwhelming at the same time. There will be no curtains or blinds, yet, so looking into a sleep mask. I have never used one before, but I bet I will get used to it.
-
Nancy i used one when I travel.....they really are great and so soft you don't even feel them. Yay for moving day!!
I have spent the last two days sewing like a crazy woman! Yes, yes, I know I really am but that's beside the point.....lol. My DD's couch is old and stained so i decided to make some slip covers for her. All removable and 100% washable and it almost looks like a new one. Not quite done yet but I'll post a pic when complete.......I'm hoping that will be a bit later tonight.
Love n hugs all! Chrissy

Hello to all!
So happy to have found this site!
I am 66, received diagnosis in May, double mastectomy in June, completed 4 rounds of AC (with that red devil substance), & started taxol (11 weekly rounds to go) yesterday.
A road no one wants to go down, but lessons certainly to be learned. All in my life have been great, with the exception of my closest friend, who showed an unfortunate side. Husband and kids have been wonderful, as have other friends. Hate being the sick person, have been healthy up to now! Anyone else feel this way?
I am stage 2, with 2 lymph nodes texting positive.
-
Hi Patdob and welcome both to BCO and this thread. I think each of us at some point have felt exactly that way .
For myself, I never even got a cold and the only reason my doc saw me was because I had hurt myself doing something I shouldnt have. It sure does not sit well being the 'sick' one and I'm doing my darndest to make life as normal as possible each and every day.
You will find that you will be able to get back to a good place once all treatment is complete and you feel more like yourself........it takes a little time but it does happen.
Love n hugs. Chrissy
-
Welcome Patdob to BCO. Glad you found us, and thanks for sharing!
-
Patdob, Welcome! I hope the taxol treats you well with low side effects. Sorry about your friend. Some people just can't deal. You'll make friends on here who understand your path and share your ups and downs.
Crissy, Yikes! I wish I had the nerve to start slipcovers. My sofa is torn up (thank you Mocca) and locks awful, but is still very comfortable. I haven't seen one I liked in my price range to replace it. I think the reluctance is due to the yards and yards of fabric I would have to buy. Not inexpensive at all.
