Voltaren Gel for AI Joint Pain
Has anyone tried it?
And, did it help?
I'm having significant knee pain from Arimidex - to the point that my mobility is severly compromised. I'm doing lots of other things (MSM +Boswellia, Omega 3's, Vitamin D, Claritin, Tai Chi and Acupuncture) and they help, but only to a point.
Topical Voltaren was suggested to me recently since I can't take oral NSAID's due to hypertension.
Has anyone had any success with it?

Just put some on my arms I feel some relief.
Did you try it? I wonder how long it will last.
Now I am trying to get rid of my heart burn tonight.

I have a friend bring it to me from the UK I mostly use it for muscle pulls and when I have arthritis flare ups, it's really good stuff.

Hi Meow,
I haven't tried it yet. Will start today and see if it's any help. I was looking for first hand experiences before I tried it.
I'll post back when I've seen how it works.

I see this thread is a year old now. Just wondering if any of you found it to help? I've been using the Voltaren gel on my knees (where the pain is the worst) for a few weeks now and not noticing any improvement. My MO really wants me to stay on the A.I. for at least 3 more years, but the joint pain is making life difficult. They seemed to think the Voltaren would really work. If it does work, how long does it take?

I just saw an ad for that here. I want to say my PCP said it was good. I would think you'd notice a difference immediately

Z where is here? Where you are now, or home? Seems I had that a long time ago, was good stuff.

I saw the ad in Ireland. Thought about picking some up. Not any at my Walmart in the states.

Hi Jennifer,
I did use the Voltaren Gel while on a trip that required a good deal of walking on pavement. I do believe it helped, but not so dramatically that I've continued to use it. Thank you for reminding me, though. I will try it again in more routine circumstances.
I'm using so many things (Vitamin D, Omega 3's, Magnesium, Claritin, acupuncture, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, rebounder, Sisu 7 Joint Complex) that it's hard to tease out which is responsible for what. One thing I do know for sure is that Claritin quells the bone pain, but it doesn't stop the stiffness and joint issues. I've also noticed that if I go longer than two weeks between acupuncture appointments my knees begin to increase the volume of their complaining again.
My mobility is still significantly compromised, but as long as I keep up with the above regimen I'm able to do a limited amount of walking - the amount seems to vary day to day. Exercise doesn't give me relief unfortunately. It just cripples me further. I've also noticed that my balance has gone missing, which makes walking on rough terrain very risky.
I've managed to persist in taking the Arimidex for almost 4 years now and my MO has indicated that he won't have me go past 5. I'm really hoping that these issues will at least partly resolve when my sentence is over as I really do enjoy outdoors activity and have been chafing at my limitations.

What is it? Is it in any way similar to Bangay? Thinking I might need this soon...
-
Hi Treelilac,
It's a topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. You can read about it here: http://www.voltarengel.com/consumer/about_voltaren...
Here in Canada it's OTC. I maybe mistaken, but I think in the US you still require an Rx to obtain it.

Yes, it was a prescription. Cost about 10 bucks, we have pretty good insurance. Comes with a slew of warnings, though. More like what I would expect if you were taking the drug internally. My doc implied that very little is absorbed through the skin. I think I will not continue using it if there isn't some relief soon.

Thank you for the information! I'll write this down to ask the good MO next time I see her.
