Wow that is a beauty ❤
-
Love those backyard birds and the Peafowl. Such great pics.
I had a unique opportunity to get a white egret hunting for a meal.
Hear is the hunt.
The Dive
The Catch
The Big Swallow
Now I wonder what is for dessert?
-
BW, perfect sequence of photos!
Look at the bulge in the neck.
-
Thanks Teka. That bulge was pretty awesome to see. -
very cool
-
picture from the internet, but this is exactly whats happening in my front serviceberry tree this week-- the only time I see cedar waxwings!
-
This morning
-
I love the waxwings, especially how they announce their arrival with the tweety whistle that they make.
Here are a couple of handsome guys.
-
Lisa, a great hummingbird pic. Are you still using only one hand. I hope you got some good news at your apt today.
Aviva, I don't think I have ever seen the Cedar waxwings this late. I have seen them in the winter in past years and last May. I have ornamental crabs and a plum tree that they land on when they are migrating. They are so beautiful they don't even seem real.
Nancy, I would love, love, love to get a pic of an owl. I can hear them but they are tough to spot. I might make a trip to Iowa in the future to get the eagle migration in the spring. I tried here with no luck this year.
-
But he wasn't in the wild..
The trauma orthopedic surgeon is going to try to build the bone without surgery...if it doesn't work then I will have the rod put in, but at least this is a doable alternative for me...I will keep my fingers crossed. At least I can ditch the brace when I am at home...but not out....I didn't remind him that I broke the arm in the house..lol
-
The owl and the eagle weren't in the wild either. They were at the World Bird Sanctuary, where they rehabilitate and release the birds when possible. These two had been injured and not able to be released so are used for educational purposes. Very cool to see them up close though.
-
Love the owl pics no matter where they came from.
Lisa, that sounds like great news. Hopefully you won't have to have surgery. No more falling into walls!!!!!
-
I always thought that the owls are the most interesting and beautiful birds.
Lisa how do they build bone without surgery?

My DH's shot of the Quetzal
-
what a cute little guy, Mum...The surgeon is going to go a six weeks try with PT, a machine that promotes bone healing, and time to see if that helps .
-
-
-
-
-
Beautiful and interesting birds ladies. Lisa I hope your PT on your arm will be effective. That would be awesome.
-
Thanks,, I am off to PT right now...
-
This is so cool. DH was in our back yard with our leashed cat. Squeakers saw something and DH went to investigate. A fledgling robin was stuck in a net under a bush. DH finally freed him, got the ladder, and put him back in his nest. Saw parents feeding him last night. Saw them flying together this morning.
-
Wren, that is cool. A bird hero!
-
A pair of house wrens nesting in our bluebird nest box keep busy bringing insects to feed the young!
Daughter took the following 7 photos.
I would like to frame this last photo. -
mum, that picture of the blue bird is so wonderful..now I want to see one somewhere..
-
To find that bird you have to go to Costa Rica or Panama. We were lucky to catch them during nesting season.
-
Mum, He is just the cutest bird I have ever seen.
Are you planning to hit San Diego this year?
-
I've never really been a 'bird watcher' but have been a bit more recently. Actually birds, scare me as they will bite hard. I have a 'good' bruise on the back of my leg now from a Canadian Honker that attacked me from behind on Sat. I did not do anything to cause the attack - was in a picnic area at a State Park. They are VERY aggressive at the city parks also.
I did see 2 Ospreys at Custer SP in SD Sat. morning at Center Lake. They were doing better fishing than any of the human anglers.
If someone wants to see a lot of Bald Eagles check out the Skagit River in WA. At one time the Skagit had the largest breeding population in the Lower 48 (it still may be but I haven't lived or worked in the area for 20 yrs). There is now a large Bald Eagle Reserve (8,000 +/- acres) along the Skagit near Concrete and Outfitters do float trips.
-
Hi Kicks. Yes, Geese are awful and very mean. They are still doing eagle watching on the Skagit.
