So glad to hear- see you-- Poppy!! Continue to rest
Prayers for nothing at all serious
-
Poppy, how scary. When do you get results? Please let us know. Prayers going up. Love, Jean
-
First I have to get the ultrasound scheduled. My insurance gave the okay, so now I'm waiting again.
-
Poppy, I'm praying for good ultrasound results for you! How frightening!
So nice to "see" all of you and catch up!
-
OH, my favorite ladies!!!!! Where to begin?? Has anybody seen LARock? Is she back from her vacation yet? My husband and I just got back from Galveston, TX and had the best time doing nothing!!!! We spent a couple of days with my BFF that I hadn't seen in 2 years, since both of us had to have surgery last year. She had neck surgery at the same time I had my surgery. We are two peas in a pod!!!!! She played tour guide for us in San Antonio and we had the best late night talks, just like the "good ol' days". The most strenuous thing we did in Galveston was walk across the street to the ocean. We spent a lot of time out on the balcony watching the ships go by and the pelicans fly by. It doesn't take much to entertain me anymore!!!!
BHD, hang in there!!! I lost one big toenail and when my podiatrist asked me if I wanted to grow it back or lose it completely, I told him I wanted to lose it and to me it was just another body part that won't grow back!!! He just shook his head!!!! Lordy, Lordy, Lordy, to have squishy boobs again!!!!! Keep us informed!!!
Toby, you are almost done!!! YAY!!! I am so proud of you. You have come a long way, baby!!!! (you may be to young to remember that saying). As BHD said, I do hope you and your husband have something special planned. 9 more days. YAY!!!!!!
Poppy, let's hope for nothing further and the good girl stays good. See you on other threads!!!! As far as the hot flashes, I discovered that when I was in Galveston (and it was hot) and drank a ton of water, I didn't have but maybe 1 or 2 hot flashes a day. I have continued to drink probably 8-10 bottles of water a day and haven't had but maybe one hot flash a day and that reminds me to drink more water. Of course, it was a constant battle to get very far from the bathroom, but it was worth it!!!!!! I take my Femara in the morning along with my other pills and take Evening Primrose Oil in the evening, along with my other set of pills. I know, I am a walking pharmacy!!!! But, I am alive and feeling fantastic!!!!!
Jean, the hair, that is a different story....as you can see mine is curly and white and about 2 inches long and uncontrollable!!! But, I am already 7 months PFC and haven't had it cut yet. I have been salt/pepper for at least 25 years. Going gray early never bothered me, but this white and curly stuff drives me crazy!!! They call me "Curly Jo" at work and my son pats me on the head when he sees me, because he likes the "bounciness" of it. Somedays when I am complaining about the fur coat on my head, my husband says he will trade with me, but, then I remember that he has "Elmer Fudd" hair and I don't want to go back to that look again. GEEZ....
It is certainly great to know you ladies are doing so well and certainly good to hear from all of you.
-
Hey Nomatterwhat!
Love the photo! Your hair is pretty! Mine is tight, tight curls, about 1 1/2 inches long... and so soft. It's mostly golden brown. Because it's so soft and new, people pet it. I don't mine, because it's so soft!
-
Nomatter, you look gorgeous! Your trip sounds wonderful. I'm glad you got the chance to enjoy yourself!
Little E and I are going to the mother/son baseball game tonight, which we are both excited about. Sure beats a mother/son dance where nobody dances, LOL! I will try to get a selfie, so you all can see my crazy hair.
-
This is me almost 4 months post chemo.
What you see is what you get!
-
Little E was so excited to meet Stomper and get a photo!
-
My love!
-
My name is badhairday, and I'm having a BAD hair day! LOL!
-
Jean, you look fabulous! I see a lot of hair--you will need a cut before you know it! I love your glasses too!
-
Bad hair, you're gonna need to change your name to fabulous soon. You rock the look. Little e is just too cute for words. Love, Jean
-
OH, Jean you look FABULOUS!!!!! Before you know it, you will have a pony tail!!!!!
BHD, you are so beautiful!!! Love your hair!!! I can see why Little E is the love of your life. You make such a cute couple!!!! Who needs "he who shall remain nameless" when you have such a nice looking young man on your arm. Enjoy these times, they pass to fast.
-
Hey Badhairday, We have the same haircut! Mines the same length and style.... just curlier! Love Little E! My kids like going to the minor league games because they make it so fun for the fans!
Hey Jean! I know I see you on other treads, but it's always good to see your lovely face!

Hello all! So good to hear everyone's wonderful updates. I haven't been on the site much - trying to put all this behind me I guess.
I'm glad to say I have hair again. Right now it's about an inch or so. It came back in salt and pepper but thanks to DH is now back to my natural color of dirty blonde. I lost my eyelashes about two months post-chemo but thankfully they came back fairly quickly.
My nails are still nasty. They never fell off completely but they are misshapen, discolored and largely detached. Acrylics sound like a good idea Badhairday.
My newest cancer nemesis is tamoxifen which is what brought me back to the site, looking for info.I've been on it about a month and I hate the darn drug. The nightly hot flashes keep me up most of the night and I'm starting to feel as fatigued as I was during chemo. My oncologist has me on a small dose of Lexapro which is supposed to help. Anyone else having problems?
Poppyk, sorry to hear about your mammogram results.I'll pray that it's only scar tissue. Let us know what you find out.
-
LARock, The hot flashes are horrible! I'm taking Effexor/venlafaxine to try to make them more bearable. I've been told to give it some time and it may even out.
Acrylics are hard on your natural nails. You need a good base nail to attach them to, and build them upon. I'm curious to find out whether they will make nail situation better or worse.
I finally have the ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday, May 27th.

Yes ladies, these treatments are hard to handle. I keep reminding myself that I need to be grateful that they are saving my life. There are places in the world where there is little or no access to medical care and women die. Love, Jean
-
So very nice to see all of you again! LA, hope they find something as an alternative med?
I never experienced fatigue too much at all during chemo; took 2 days off of work total due to SE's. Radiation however, has kicked me. Came home after radiation today at 8 a.m. and slept until 11:30 (took day off)
I will be glad when this is over, I have to say
Poppy, glad they have the date- keeping you in my thoughts
My hair looks like y'alls. Badhair, you and your adorable one look fantastic!!!!!
Mine is about same length: a bit over ears, but all over the place-- completely white in front and dark gray in back. Getting second wig and color this Friday.
Mine looks a lot like NoMatter
BTW you and Jean look awesome. But, I am styling it as best I can into bangs. Short curls though
Keep fightin the fight ladies
Hugs
Kath

You ladies must be a lot younger than I am, because I got to start on Femara. I tried Effexor and it made me Zofran ill. YUCK!!!! However, I have found that the more water I drink the less hot flashes I have, but the more I pee. What a trade off!!!!! I found that out on vacation in Galveston and am willing to go back and make sure that it is true. I know, I know, that would mean at least another week off work, (LOL that would make my boss happy) but I would do that for you ladies just to make sure I really am having less, or even no hot flashes during the day.
-
Thanks so much for the compliments! You gals definitely get what a big deal the hair thing is. My 18 year old daughter did point out that short pixie cuts are very trendy, so I guess that means we are all looking modern and chic! LOL! I just want it to grow out enough so that it isn't sticking up everywhere when I wake up in the morning!
It is so good to kind of check in with everybody, and to see that there is life after dreadful chemo! We kicked some cancer ass together! I am so grateful for each of you!
I am on Tamoxifen as well, and the hot flashes in the beginning were fierce! They did get better after a few weeks, and then ramped right up after the hysterectomy, but seem to have leveled off to one or two a night now. I have found that if I sleep with my feet sticking out from the blanket that they don't seem as bad. I am hoping to be able to stick with it for a while, due to bone density issues. Also, my sister had a heck of a time with Arimidex so trying to avoid that one.
-
Hair, what hair? Mine is about half an inch! One of our friends agreed that I "rock the look" but thinks I should get some tatoos to go with it. He was joking of course, and I didn't tell him I already have tats from the rads. Teehee! By the way, age wize I may be the oldest here. I hit 72 last month and yes am on tamoxifen. Ok, age lottery anyone? Love, Jean ☆
-
NO way, Jean!! You cannot be 72. I might believe 65, but not 72. Okay, I confess I will turn 55 in July.
BHD, I understand, I haven't slept with covers since I started Femara. We have actually turned the furnace back on -- it is unbelievably cold here in Missouri for May. So, it may be a light cover night.
-
Wow, you ladies rock! I will turn 48 in a little over a week.
Last night was a little better but I was still up at least 4 times with hot flashes. I'm trying to take my pills earlier in the evening, around dinner time, to see if that makes a difference. I like nomatterwhat's suggestion about drinking more water although I can do without more trips to the bathroom!
DS comes home from his first year in college on Friday! Can't wait.
I'm loving my short hair. I probably won't grow it back much longer. It's so much easier to take care of!
-
LA, I hear ya: our fraternal twin boys are home from sophomore year. I LOVE having them home!!!!
We all know Jean is really 62
Blessed evening all
-
62, yeah right. Born 4/30/43. I did an hour long exercise class tonight ar church and now I feel 92! Ouch. Love, Jean
-
Hoping everyone is enjoying a wonderful day with family, friends, or whatever you choose!
Question: anyone else's stomach been a lot more sensitive since chemo?
-
Toby, my stomach has not been sensitive exactly but my tastes in food have changed. Some foods I loved are just not appealing and others I've devoted a new taste for. Love, Jean
-
I have a hard time eating hot, spicy food now. Nachos have always been one of my favorite foods and now it gives me the worst case of indigestion and heart burn. I have never liked milk and now I eat cereal every morning and use the Silk Almond milk.
Went to our son's for Memorial Day BBQ and to try out his new grill and cooking skills. He did a good job as long as his dad was helping him. Found out a friend of my SIL's parents, and one we would hang with at their house, passed away last week. Found out that my SIL's father has lymph node neck cancer and they have given him only two years. Not a very good day to visit with my SIL!!!!!
-
I have frequent heartburn now, when I never had prior to chemo. I also get more gas.
Nomatter, So sorry about your friend and your SIL's father. Yesterday I attended my best friend's father's funeral service. Cancer stinks!
